Thy Lord’s Sacred Lantern
One night in my bed, watching stars pass my window,
attempting to fall asleep;
To my disbelief, a star filled my room with its luminous
light it had released.
As the light took form, a figure well known, in long robe he
unveiled his magnificent wings;
With his words softly spoken, "Rest assure all my children,
you are sheltered by God’s sacred blessings!" he did say.
"And with each passing year, l will stand guard and defend,
less one night I dare not to explain;
And for that one night, I leave you a gift,
Thy Lord’s Sacred Lantern is its name!
But be forewarned, when you turned it on, for one fortnight
shall past for its power to fully revive;
So keep it by your side, and use it on the darkness of nights,
that is if you wish to stay alive!"
With each night that passes, it sits by my bedside,
and I sleep with no thoughts of despair;
Then it dawns on me, which dark night would it be?
My guardian, he did not bear.
As my comfort has changed, from reassured to unease,
my thoughts slowly turned for the worst;
Overwhelmed with fright, I lay motionless now, with each sound
my fears become reinforced.
A sound by my door, my lit lantern I bring forth,
to see my mother enter my sight.
"How long is a fortnight?" I query her now, "About two weeks’ time."
she replies with a kiss good night.
With each night that follows, to my bed with hard swallows,
I would tally the nights that slowly pass by;
When I enter my room, I now leave the lights on, and I pray
by my bedside for one more night I stay alive!
As time passes by, my Lord’s Sacred Lantern revived,
I am cautious as to when I choose to deplete;
Accustom I am, to the shadows and the sound of the wind,
fear now has no control of me.
Then one dark night it came forth, a shadow of sort,
with my lantern I abolished thy evil entity;
And now I stand guard, a defender of man, with
Thy Lord’s Sacred Lantern, I claim sweet Victory!
