{Christine}

When I woke up, I felt like a zombie.

"Jesus," I muttered as I pulled myself out of bed. I slammed the alarm clock off and made my way into my bathroom that was connected to my room.

I also just happened to look like a zombie. I brushed my teeth and threw my wavy hair up into a low, loose ponytail. I didn't put on much makeup, just some concealer, peach colored lip gloss, and mascara. I was only going to work, I didn't need much.

I went back into my room and pulled on a pair of blue green scrubs. I grabbed my white hoodie, my phone, and my purse and rushed out of my room.

I still felt like a zombie. I definitely needed some coffee, and our machine was broken. I pulled out my phone as I headed out the door.

Christine:

So I think I'm going to take you up on that coffee offer....

Brianna caught up to me. She was wearing her brown scrubs.

"We need to get a new coffee machine," she said. She hiked her purse up higher on her shoulder.

"No kidding," I commented. My phone buzzed.

Jonathan:

Sounds great. Meet me at Coffee Beans?

I smiled

Christine:

I'll be there.

"Wanna go to Starbucks?" Brianna asked me. I looked over at her and hit the down button on the elevator.

"I would love to, but...." I trailed off.

"But what?" she asked me as we stepped into the elevator. There was another woman in the elevator.

"I'm meeting someone else at Coffee Beans," I told her. Her jaw dropped.

"Who?" she asked eagerly.

"Janice," I lied. Janice was my boss, and the woman loved coffee.

"Can I come?" she asked.

"No, it's just some hospital stuff," I said. "They need extra nurses at the hospital right now, so you go ahead."

"Okay. See you later," she said as we walked out the doors of our building and went our separate ways. It was still cold, but not as bitter.

When I got to the coffee shop ten minutes later, Jonathan was waiting for me.

"Hey," I said as I walked up to him. He turned and smiled.

"Hey," he replied. There was a second of uncertainty. I wasn't sure if we should hug or just stand there. I looked away from him.

We ordered our coffee and both got muffins before we went and sat down across from each other at a small booth.

Someone came up to the table and held out a shirt with a Blackhawks logo on the front.

"I'm a huge fan, can you please sign this?" he asked. He flipped the shirt over and I saw Toews and 19 written on the back. Jonathan nodded and quickly signed it before handing the Sharpie back to the kid. The kid thanked him and walked away.

"What was that all about?" I asked before I took a drink of coffee.

"Oh, well, you've heard of the Chicago Blackhawks right?" he said. I slowly nodded. "Well, your job is being a nurse, and my job is being a hockey player."

"Isn't hockey dangerous?" I asked him. "We get hockey players at the hospital all the time." Jonathan laughed.

"Yes, it's dangerous," he answered.

"Then why do you do it?" I asked. He paused to collect his thoughts.

"I do it because I love go hockey more than anything. I love the rush of adrenaline you get, I love the feeling of gliding on the ice, I love the feeling of having a team of brothers, I just love it," he explained with a smile. I smiled too. "So what about you, huh? Why are you a nurse?"

"I'm a nurse because the human body fascinates me. The way it works and functions perplexes me. I love working with people too. You've probably heard of all the shit heads and crazy people nurses have to deal with, but I love it all," I told him. He nodded.

"So I take it your a passionate person?" he asked me as he raised an eyebrow. I laughed and nodded.

"I guess you could say that," I replied with a nod. I was actually beginning to change my mind about this guy. I looked down and checked my phone. "Shit, I'm gonna be late." I grabbed my purse and tossed the rest of my muffin.

"Need a ride?" Jonathan asked. I checked my phone again. I had fifteen minutes to get there, and the walk took about twenty five. I slowly nodded.

"Yeah, I do, actually" I answered. He smiled down at me.

"Then let's get going," he said. He reached out and pushed the door open for me. "Ladies first."

"I know you're only doing that so you can check out my ass," I commented as I walked outside. I heard Jonathan laugh loudly. "And believe me, hurts don't look good in scrubs."

"Can't a guy be a gentleman without people questioning his motives?" he teased as he walked along beside me.

"Get used to it," I said. He chuckled. "So what's it like?"

"What's what like?" he asked.

"Skating. I've never been ice skating," I replied, glancing up at him. He looked down at me.

"It's different for everyone," he answered. "For me, as cliché as it sounds, when I step out onto the ice, everything I'm stressed or worried about just goes away. It's just me and the ice and it really clears my head."

I nodded. "Sounds great."

"I could take you some time," he said. I grinned.

"Really?"

"Yeah, for sure," he answered. I smiled.

"You sure a superstar hockey player like yourself wouldn't be embarrassed to be skating with me who will more than likely bust my ass?" I asked. He laughed again. He had a nice laugh.

"No, I won't be embarrassed too much," he teased.

"Good," I answered. We reached his car, which was a black Lexus. "Nice."

He smirked and opened the car door for me. I thanked him and slid into my seat before he shut the door. The interior of the car was a smooth light grey.

He got inside in the driver's seat. The ride to the hospital was quiet, but it wasn't awkward. When we pulled up to the hospital, Jonathan quickly got out of the car to open it for me.

"Are you always like this?" I laughed as I got out of the car.

"Eh, depends on the day," he joked. I grinned. "Well, I'm going out of town for a few days for some away games. I'll take you skating when I get back."

I grinned.

"Sounds great," I answered. The next thing I knew, Jonathan's arms were wrapped around me in a hug. It took me by surprise, so it took me a few seconds to register what was happening. I slowly wrapped my arms around him.

We let go of each other. I stepped away from the curb.

"See you in a few days," he said, leaning against his car. I grinned.

"Bye, Jonathan."

"Bye, Christine," he replied before getting into his car. I watched him as he drove off.

"You're the biggest liar I've ever met," someone said, coming up beside me. I looked and saw Brianna.

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

"You told me you were meeting with Janice. I followed you to the coffee shop and then here," she explained.

"Stalker much?" I joked as we started towards the doors.

"You like Jonathan," she sing-songed. I hit her arm.

"I do not," I answered.

"I just saw you two hugging," she pointed out.

"Friends can hug," I defended. My phone buzzed in my pocket.

Jonathan:

Excited for our date when I come back? ;)

I laughed.

"You're going on another date even!" Brianna cried.

"Today was not a date, and neither is the next time we see each other," I said.

Christine:

Who said it was a date, Toews?

Brianna clicked her tongue at me. "You just can't help yourself, can you?"

"Brianna, enough," I laughed.

Jonathan:

I did. And I'm glad you left the Mr. off the Toews :)

Christine:

Yeah yeah yeah, you just got lucky.

Jonathan:

So what are you going to do with yourself while I'm soaking up the sun in Florida?

Christine:

I'm going to be here, freezing my ass off, doing my head nurse duties

Jonathan:

Lol, you said duties

Christine:

Wow. I never knew how immature you really were, Toews.

Jonathan:

Just cause I'm old crotchety man doesn't mean I act like it.

Christine:

Whatever Mr. Toews. I have work to do.

Jonathan:

Okay have fun captain nurse. Don't let any of those guy doctors/nurses hit on you ;)

Christine:

No promises :)
