It'd been a month since Christine had quit her job, and I had to admit it was great. I got to see her so much more often and it wasn't just on game days anymore.
I glanced over at her as we laid on the couch. Her roommate had been traveling to Dallas non stop whenever she could get time off.
When I was gone Christine kept herself busy with playing tennis at the gym and doing volunteer nurse work at free clinics, so it wasn't like she was just a bump on a log. She also was helping her roommate with getting ready for a baby.
"This show is so dumb," she commented, biting into a carrot. I'd leaned that she has an odd love for carrots.
"You picked it," I replied, running my hand up and down her arm.
"I thought it looked cool," she answered with a shrug.
"You can't judge anything by its cover," I joked. She looked up at me and rolled her eyes.
"Shut up and pick a new show," she said, pushing her head closer to me. I grinned and picked up the remote.
A few minutes later, I noticed Christine was asleep. I smiled to myself. I honestly would love to spend every night I was home like this.
I wanted Christine to always be here when I got home. I wanted to always fall asleep with her right next to me. I wanted to always know that wherever I was, I would have her when I got home. I sighed and kissed the top of her head.
The next morning, I woke up and Christine was already awake, zoning out on the TV. I had an off day because there was a small break before playoffs started.
"What do you want to do today?" I asked her.
"Hmm?" she asked, looking up at me.
"What do you want to do today?" I repeated with a grin.
"You should teach me how to play hockey," she replied. I gave her a questioning look.
"Hockey?"
"I didn't stutter did I?" she teased. I rolled my eyes at her and she smacked my chest. Patrick came into the living room.
"Good morning, love birds," he commented as he shuffled into the kitchen.
"Morning, Pat," Christine replied, pushing off her blanket and getting up. Her and Patrick had actually become pretty good friends, considering she was always around now.
"I worry that you like him more than me," I said as I walked into the kitchen behind them.
"I also worry that you like him more than me," Christine replied, waving her spatula at me. I laughed and kissed her, knowing it would annoy Patrick.
"Aw, come on!" Patrick said, shielding his eyes. Ever since Cara broke up with him, he'd been on an anti girl streak. But I think he'd been seeing someone recently, which was good for him.
Christine made everyone omelets and after that we all piled into my car and drove to practice. I told Christine she could watch practice and then come out on the ice with me after it was over.
Once all the guys were off the ice she sat on the edge of the boards and I laced her skates before standing up. She reached out and put her hands on my shoulders.
"You look hot in all your gear," she commented. I laughed.
"You look hot all the time," I replied. She laughed back and rolled her eyes at me. I put my hands on her hips and pressed a kiss to her lips. She wrapped her arms around my neck and I felt her smile.
Later in the day, we went back to Christine's house so Patrick could have his girlfriend over. Her roommate was still in Dallas with Tyler.
She insisted on making dinner so I leaned against the island as she cooked.
"I have to ask you something," I said. She slid something into the oven and turned around to face me.
"Yeah?" she asked. I took a deep breath. I felt my hands shake. "Jonathan."
"Huh?"
"It's okay," she said, coming over to me and taking my hands. She looked me in the eyes. "What are you asking?"
"I want you to move in with me," I said quietly. Christine bit her lip, trying to contain a grin.
"That wasn't a question," she giggled.
"Oh come on," I whined.
"Come on, ask me," she said, bouncing up and down. I laughed.
"Okay, okay. Will you move in with me?" I asked. She smiled widely.
"Of course I'll move in with you," she replied. I let go of her hands and slid them to her waist. She gave a small laugh as I pulled her to me and pressed my lips against hers.
"Jon," she said quietly, but she kept kissing me. She laughed and said my name again. She put her hands on my chest and pushed me away. "The lasagna is going to burn."
After we ate, she insisted on washing the dishes by herself, but of course I didn't let her do that. After she dried her hands, I put my hands on her hips and spun her around.
She giggled and put her hands on my chest.
"What're you doing?" she asked with a grin.
"Finishing what we started," I replied, kissing her. I felt her smile as she slid her hands down and to my back.
"What do you think Pat and Mandy are doing right now?" she asked me after we pulled apart.
"I don't really care," I whispered. She laughed as I put my hands under her legs and picked her up as she wrapped her arms around my neck.
Life was good.
