I woke up to the sun peaking through the curtains. I rolled over and Jonathan was gone, but he had left a note on his pillow.
Not sure if you remembered, but I had an early flight out to San Jose this morning. See you soon, babe.
I sighed a happy sigh and fell back on the bed. He was amazing. The best I've ever had. I got up and turned the radio on as I got ready. I still wasn't sure what I was going to do for the day, but I'd figure something out.
I wasn't paying attention while walking down the stairs, so I stumbled and fell. A sharp pain radiated throughout my foot. I tried to stand up but there was a shooting pain and I collapsed again. That was then I panicked. I didn't know who to call or what to say.
I ended up calling Chaun. She was usually the rational one between us.
"He leaves for barely 4 hours and you manage to break yourself," she teased as she helped me hop on one foot down the hallway.
"Oh shut up," I shot back with a laugh. My foot felt like it was on fire. I wondered to myself how I was still able to laugh.
"On a serious note, do you want me to call Jonny?" she asked as she helped me into the car.
"No, I don't want him to worry. I'm okay."
"You're sure?" she questioned. I hesitated but I nodded. I didn't need him to get all worried before his game. I probably just needed a brace or something anyway.
Chaun sped to the hospital, and I was thankful we made it there in one piece. The pain in my foot was growing as she helped me hobble inside. They saw my foot and immediately put me into a room.
It was a long process, the nurses and doctors were rude, and long story short, my foot was broken in two different places and I needed surgery to set the bones. How I did all that just falling down the stairs, I'm not sure.
I scheduled the surgery for the next day and they decided they would just keep me in the hospital overnight.
"How you feeling?" asked an older nurse as she came into my room. She was the nicest I had dealt with all day.
"I'm fine," I replied with a smile. "Is there any way to get the Blackhawks game on?"
"I can try," she answered. "You a big fan?"
"I guess you could say that," I said with a small laugh. The nurse found the game on the TV and despite my best efforts to stay awake and watch Jonathan, I fell asleep.
The next morning, the older nurse knocked on my door frame. I told her to come in. She pulled the curtain back and she had a cup of ice chips in her hand.
"There's someone very special here for you," she said with a wink. She came further into the room, allowing Jonathan to come in.
"How did you manage to do this?" he asked with a small laugh. I shrugged as the nurse handed him the ice chips.
"I stumbled and fell down the stairs," I laughed. He smiled and pressed a kiss to my forehead before he pulled up a chair and spooned ice chips into my mouth. He used his other hand to push hair off my forehead.
"You're a mess," he teased, letting his hand drop so it was resting on my thigh. I smiled and took his hand in mine.
"How'd you know I was here?" I asked. I hadn't texted or called about it.
"Well, I knew something was off when I looked at my phone after the game and didn't have fifty messages," he said. I had picked up the habit of texting him during games, even though I know he won't answer. "So I called Chaun, and she spilled the beans. But guess what."
"What?" I asked, rolling my head so I could look at him.
"We're going to round 2," he said excitedly, his eyes turning into puppy eyes.
"You better kick some St. Louis ass, that's all I've got to say," I told him with a smile. He grinned.
"No worries, babe. No worries. They'll put up a fight for sure, but we've got this," he said. I tilted my head towards him and he kissed me. "Unless I decide not to leave again in case you break yourself again."
I lightly hit his arm.
"I'm clumsy, you know that."
"And I still like you anyway," he answered as he gave me a kiss.
