I changed into jeans, a white wool sweater, and boots, with my new necklace hanging down. I looked at it in the mirror one more time before I left the bathroom.
"Ready?" Jonathan asked. I nodded just as his phone rang. "Hello?"
I stood there and watched as he talked to whoever it was on the other line.
"Mom, you're breaking up," Jonathan said. "It's perfectly fine, mom. We'll find something to do, okay? No, don't apologize, it's okay. Love you."
"Everything okay?" I asked.
"You know my mom's place is about 30 minutes outside here, and there's a big snow storm coming and since the roads are crappy, she couldn't get any food or anything and there's a huge blizzard and she had to cancel. She insisted we don't get out in this," he explained. "I was thinking we could go for dinner in the lobby and find something to do?"
"Works for me," I replied. I really didn't mind what we did, as long as I was with him.
"My brother flew in sometime today and I'm pretty sure he's staying here. Want me to call him?"
"If you want to," I said with a laugh."I'd love to meet at least one of your relatives while I'm here," I joked. Jonathan laughed.
"I will call him then," he said, picking up his phone again. I walked to the window and saw snow was gently beginning to fall. I was so mesmerized that I hadn't even noticed Jonathan was off the phone until he was standing behind me, his arms around my waist. I leaned back into him.

I woke up the next morning exhausted. David had to cancel because he was stuck at the airport because of the snow. So, Jonathan and I stayed up until an ungodly hour, drinking wine and just talking.
We were going back to Chicago today and I was kind of disappointed I didn't even get to meet one of his family members. On the other hand, I'd had an amazing weekend just being with Jonathan and learning more and more things about him.
I know this little vacation would change the dynamic of our relationship, but it hadn't yet, and that made me nervous. Being with him made me nervous. He was slipping past all of my walls, and I was terrified. I don't let people get close. They always end up hurting me.
-----------------
I went to go close the trunk before I climbed into the passenger seat of Jonathan's car. We had just gotten back from Canada, and it was actually kind of warm in Chicago.
"Who's Trent and why is he asking you to hang out?" Jonathan asked, gesturing towards my phone.
"Why were you reading my messages?" I asked him. I hated it when people did that.
"I wasn't it just popped up," he replied.
"Trent was my best friend in college," I explained.
"Sure he was," Jonathan mumbled.
"Excuse me?" I asked, my voice jumping higher.
"How do I know he's not your ex that you've been hanging with when I'm out of town?"
"You're being ridiculous," I told him.
"Convince me then."
"I shouldn't fucking have to! You're my boyfriend, you're supposed to trust me! Are you saying you don't trust me?" I asked, looking at him in shock. He gave a half shrug.
"We've been together for only four months! I'm still not sure about you yet!"
" I knew you for less than a fucking week when Macy sent you those pictures and I trusted you then. Why can't you trust me now?" I yelled just as he pulled up to my building. I jumped out of the car and grabbed my luggage. Jonathan was silent.
I slammed the door before storming inside, fuming.
