The guys were loading coolers and fishing poles onto the boat when the girls arrived. They all looked like girls straight out of a Sports Illustrated. The walked in a pack, laughing and giggling their way up to the boat.
"Hey!" one said when they reached me. "I'm Mel."
"Christine," I replied with a smile. Mel had long dark brown hair and her eyes were covered with aviator shades. Ashley had bright red hair, and I could see she had brown eyes. The other girls, Sarah, Katie, and Rachel had blonde hair and blue eyes.
I didn't want to seem like some psycho possessive girlfriend so I didn't mention Jon as my boyfriend. The girls took turns introducing themselves, and even though I knew better, I began to get a little bit insecure. These girls were stunning, and they all had nice bodies.
"Chris," I heard Jon say from behind me. I turned around. "Want one?" He held up two Bud Lites in his hand. I smiled and nodded, and I thought he was going to toss it, but he walked over to me and handed it to me, his fingers brushing mine.
"Thanks," I said shyly. What was wrong with me? Jon had been my boyfriend for well over nine months, and hell, now I was pregnant with his kid.
"Are you okay?" he asked, his eyebrows pulling together like they always do when he gets concerned. I nodded. "Chris. You can't lie to me." I just shrugged and he sighed, obviously frustrated with my lack of communication. I just wasn't really in the mood for him to try and cheer me up. I was in a really odd mood. I blamed it on the hormones before Katie rushed over to Jonathan and hugged him. I felt my breath hitch as she kissed his cheek.
"I've missed you so much, oh my gosh!" she squealed, taking both of his hands into hers. I stood there, feeling rather helpless.
"How've you been?" he asked her, pulling his hands away from hers.
"I've been amazing, darling," she said, putting an obvious overdramatic tone into her voice. It made me sick. Or it could've been that fact that I was pregnant, but I'm pretty sure it was her. I glanced around and Mel was with Zack, Rachel was with Alex, Ashley was with Mason, and Sarah and Katie were both surrounding Jonathon, putting on their flirty smile and high pitched voices. I felt so excluded from their group, all high school buddies. I walked away from the flirt fest that these girls were showering on my boyfriend and towards the edge of the boat as Zack began to drive, with Mel sitting sideways on his lap.
After a few minutes, I felt a pair of hands touch my sides, and I nearly jumped into the water.
"Jesus, you scared me," I laughed as I turned around to face Jonathan.
"I'm sorry about what happened," he told me. I shrugged. "Didn't you tell them we're dating?"
"I didn't want to seem like the psycho possesive girlfriend," I replied with a small laugh. Jonathan rolled his eyes at me and took my hands, swinging them back and forth.
"There's nothing wrong with claiming what's yours," he told me with a wink. This time, it was my turn to roll my eyes. "I'm serious. Tell them what's up. If they don't stop then we can make them stop," he said in a quite flirtatious tone.
"And what do you mean by that?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. Jonathan smirked that infamous smirk as he replied,
"Like this." He leaned his head down and kissed me three times, each one a second longer than the other.
"You're such a shit-stirrer," I giggled as I looked over Jon's shoulder to see Sarah and Katie staring at the scene in front of them.
"It's what I do," he replied with a wink. I once again rolled my eyes at him. From somehwere in the back of the boat someone was yelling.
"Loverboy! Get your ass back here and help me!" It was Mason. Jonathan shrugged at me and kissed me one more time before he jogged towards the back, and Zack smacked his ass on the way by.
Mel grabbed my arm and practically dragged my arm towards Ashley and Rachel. I wasn't really sure what was going on. All I knew was that I was getting some angry stares from Katie and Sarah.
"They're bitches, ignore them," Ashley said with an eyeroll. I couldn't help but laugh a little bit. "That's why they dont have boyfriends."
"So, you're dating Jonny boy, eh?" Mel asked, cocking her eyebrow at me. A smile involuntarily pulled at my lips and I nodded. "How long?"
"A year in October," I replied, my smile getting bigger as I thought back on the past few months. It had honestly been the best year I've ever had. Jonathan had showed me something that I had never experienced and will never experience again unless I stay with him. He showed me what love meant. And no, not love like in the cheesy sappy movies. Real love. Real, raw, emotional, heartbreaking, yes, heartbreaking love. When I looked his morning hair, or his lopsided grin, it made my heart hurt because I loved him so much. That kind of love is something I'd always dreamed of, and now that I have it, it's indescribable.
"You two are going to make some sexy babies," Rachel winked, tilting her beer bottle towards me. I felt heat creep up into my cheeks. We had had an jump start on the process, I guess.
"What're you all blushy about?" Mel teased with a laugh. "There a baby in there?" She pointed towards my stomach with her beer bottle. Shit. We weren't planning on saying anything to anyone until we sorted through things ourselves. But, my dumbass blushing gave us away.
"Holy shit," Ashley whispered, her eyes widening and a smile spreading from ear to ear.
"Stop," I said quietly with a laugh. "We weren't exactly planning on telling anyone anything."
"Don't worry 'bout it," Mel said, lifting her aviators to reveal icy blues. "Your secret is safe with us."
