I didn't think that things would get this bad here or that I would have to resort to being consoled by my mother but it happened. Riverdale was beginning to bring out sides of me I've never seen and sides I knew very well, neither of them what I want everyone to see.
"Mom, Betty's mom doesn't like me."
"You met Alice?"
"She told me to stay away from Betty."
"Mija," my mother pouts, making me look away. "Veronica, you've never been one to let anyone put you down. You're a very fierce girl. Alice Cooper isn't anyone to ruin your day or who you are for that matter. You know your father wouldn't want that."
"He would probably want to fight her."
"Yeah Hiram is good for that," my mother begins to laugh before she pushes my head onto her shoulder so she can stroke my hair. "You're going to be fine, I just wish that she didn't take her anger out with me on you. You're nothing like me."
"Who are you?"
My mother stops stroking my hair, making me sit up to stare into her bottomless chestnut brown eyes. I share the same ones but mine burned with a fiery intensity I guess she passed down to me.
"Let's just say. Alice and I used to be the best of friends. Like you and Betty. We just had a bit of a falling out as all."
"What exactly happened?"
I can't help but continue to dig into this deeper but my mother abruptly cuts it short.
"One day mija. I have to go to Pops now. I picked up a shift. In the meantime, find you something to do. It's a Friday night and I'm sure some of your friends are up to something."
I watch my mother grab her things and greet Smithers who sees her out before he looks at me, sulking on the beige leather couch.
"Listen to your mother Veronica. Have some fun tonight and clear your head. I'll take you anywhere that you want to go."
I nod in agreement with Smithers, grabbing my phone from besides me to see if anyone has been trying to contact me. Betty isn't a talker but I'm sure at least Archie and Kevin knows something.
Surprisingly, the only text I have is from Betty.
B: Veronica please let me know that you're alright. I really apologize for my mother. She has...impulsive behavior. You must know that I wouldn't say anything to you like that and I don't know what she was talking about. Veronica please call me.
