"Here I am, and there you are, your eyes are calling me to your heart.
All you gotta do is knock, I'll let you in,
And we will feel the passion that flows within.
I don't mean to be bold, but I gotta let you know,
I gotta thang for you and I can't let go"

"Mama!?" I yelled as I walked into my grandmother's apartment.

I walked into the kitchen going straight to the pots and pans that were laid out on the stove, taking a glimpse of what she was cooking.

"MAMA!?" I called out again.

"Deja de grita muchacha!?" (stop screaming girl!)

I turned around and laughed at her dramatic self, I walked over to her and hugged her .

"Missed you Mama" I hugged her tighter.

"Mhmm, why you don't come around anymore ?" she asked me.

"Work and I just be tired, I start school in another week or two" I smiled.

"Yeah, your mother told me you got accepted into the Nurse Practitioner program, congratulation" she smiled.

"Thank you Mama" I gleamed, I was excited to embark on this new journey.

"You seem very happy" she eyed me.

"I am, I really had no idea if I wanted to continue with school or what I wanted to do in general I mean yes I wanted to be a registered nurse but I could do so much more like med school" I shrugged.

"Med school ? I mean I always tell you to go for the full journey"

"I know Mama, I know. But all that time in school and residency. I want to have a family one day and be able to go out occasionally ... I know the vacations will be worth it but those loans"

"They're grants for that, I'm sure you know since you'll be taking master courses now" she smirked.

"You have this all figured out" I laughed.

"If my baby wants to be a doctor than so be" she gleamed.

"But I don't Mama" I whined.

"You can always think about it" she folded her arms.

"So I see you made my favorite"

"Sancocho" she finished my sentence.

"Must be a special occasion" I joked.

"Yes, your acceptance to the program" she went to the cabinets to set out plates.

"Do you know when Lisa get's off ?"

"No, she's working than has class, so she might be late or not even come by at all"

Lisa was currently back in school which caught me by surprise this summer, she enrolled in a summer course and she's been doing pretty well. I was happy for her, I wanted nothing but the best for her.

"Que bueno" my grandmother said referring to her being in class.

"I know right, so proud of her. I told her I will help her with anything she needs. I wish Lisa would have gone to art school, she is s talented Mama" I smiled.

"Yes, me too. But hard head don't make a soft ass" she eyed me.

I couldn't help but laugh at that comment. Seems like everyone but me didn't follow the rules or their parents rules at least. Everyone was kind of doing well for themselves but in Mama's eyes, you could have been way better and better off.
