Janae and Lisa walked to the kitchen, the smell of the food was making Janae hungry. She hadn't eaten anything really since she caught up on sleep.

"Hi Abuela" Janae smiled.

"Happy birthday mija" she hugged and kissed Janae.

"What's up Mama?" Lisa asked.

"What the hell were ya thinking being up in that club last night" Mama Gee asked them clearly upset.

"I had planned to take Jay there, I did not expect all that to happen" Lisa admitted.

"You invited all of Harlem and then some?" Mama Gee gritted her teeth.

"No Mama, I didn't" Lisa shook her head.

Janae began to chuckle, here was a 24 year old and 21 year old getting scolded by their grandmother like their grandmother like they were teenagers again.

"What are you laughing about? You disappeared with one of them fools last night, so you tell me how a smart young woman like yourself got caught up leaving your family behind?"

Mama Gee snapped at Janae for laughing. Janae looked down at her feet, she didn't know how to answer that question.

"Speak now, because the streets talk and you don't even live around here!" she was getting hot.

"I fell and he helped me out, I could have been hurt if he hadn't picked me up"

"So that meant leave with him!?"

"No, Mama"

"Who was it?"

"Huh?"

"You can't hear me now Jay, I'm sure you were not that dumb to leave with a man and not know his name"

"Ma, it wasn't even like that and you know that" Janae pointed to Lisa.

"Dave, it was Dave" Lisa spoke up for Janae.

"David Brewster?"

"The one and only" Lisa joked.

"Am I joking right now ?" Mama Gee looked at Lisa.

"Where the hell did you let David take you?" she turned her direction back to Janae.

"Do you want the entire truth or the part where I'm safe and sound?"

"The entire truth, keep playing with me girl"

"Dave was shot, we didn't realize till we got to Harlem and he didn't want to go to the hospital, so I had to convince him to go. I went home after I got him there" Janae lied.

She knew if Mama Gee knew she performed a medical procedure on him, she would flip. Janae performing anything like that while she was still studying with no license was dangerous, plus she wasn't no doctor. Mama Gee looked at her strangely and shook her head.

"David, out of all the men"

Mama gee stopped herself, which made Janae think what was so bad about him. Yes last night proved to be a glimpse into his lifestyle, but he didn't seem too bad.
