It was like a nightmare.

A total nightmare that was a reality.

Amir glared at me and his eyes darted between me and Hanif. It was like he was a deer frozen and staring at the headlights instead of running away from the fast car.

He began to grit his teeth and his eyes narrowed. That's when I knew this misunderstanding had gone too far.

Sameer was by his side and I saw him whisper something to Amir before Amir stiffly walks out of the restaurant.

"He's going to kill me!" I pace back and forth as Choji texts on his phone while laying upside down on his couch.

"Why?" He asked as if he didn't know what just happened the day before.

Amir saw all of us together and left. I could see his hurt, it was like his hard exterior was finally cracked open. However, that wasn't how I wanted to see his true self.

"Whatever." I say and sigh. I grab my bag and begin packing for work. "If he fires me then whatever."

As soon as I get to work, I quickly spot Amir talking to Linda and I wince because I had a bad feeling in my stomach about whatever they were talking about.

Amir didn't seem calm at all and mostly looked rigged. It was as if he wanted to get out of here as soon as possible.

I contemplated on whether to walk over and pretend nothing was wrong or to stay out of it. My mind told me it's better to walk away and not acknowledge it. So thats what I did.

However, as soon as I start walking away, Linda calls my name.

"Malak!" She called and I stood rigged in my spot. I felt my toes curl up in my high heels. I curse and force a smile before turning around.

"Yes boss?" I ask and watch as Amir quickly leaves Linda's side.

"Come over. " She began. "I'd like to talk to you about something." Her tone wasn't the happy perked up voice I was used to. It seemed she was disappointed in something.

I anxiously walked behind her until we finally arrived in her luxurious office where she let me walk in first and then shut the door.

I suddenly felt nervous. "What is going on?" I managed to say.

Linda walked up to me with her arms crossed. She sighed and pinched her nose. "Amir is backing out of the plan we had set up."

My eyes widened as I let the shock sink in. "Wait w-what?"

She nodded. "Yup, he want's out."

SAMEER POV:

"What was I thinking?" Amir brushed his hair with his hand. "I'm so stupid."

I looked at him. "Amir just relax."

Amir looked at me. "Relax? Did you just say to freaking relax?" He glared.

I backed away as his eyes blazed in fury. "I'm just saying you don't really know what's really going on in Malak's life."

Amir sighed. "Sameer, she's obviously married to Hanif and they even have a kid."

I shook my head at his conclusion. "But Amir-

"No." He put his hand up. "I'm done." He said. He then picked up an empty suit case, threw it on the bed, and began throwing clothing in it from his huge closet. " I don't know what I'm even doing here in this torture of a city." He murmured.

MALAK

I quickly felt the guilt eat up at me as I was sitting down at my desk. I couldn't even focus on the work I had to do nor the people chatting around me.

I felt like it was my fault Amir is cancelling this project but I also can't help for blaming him too. I mean he was the person coming into my life. How could he possibly not know I wasn't working here?

I plopped my head on my two hands. I sighed and quickly Camron, my coworker noticed and laughed.

"It's not funny." I glare at him. He was an intern working here and acted like he was calm and cool when really Linda put all the paperwork on him.

He was getting payed close to nothing so I sometimes bought him food when we all go out to eat. He was younger than me and is interning as a programmer.

He hates it here because he calls it girly but this was the place that would take someone who wasn't as advanced in his place and had no prior experience.

I was just like him once. Its honestly horrible how interns don't really get paid.

"Well then whats wrong?" He suddenly asked while making a spin on his chair.

I shook my head. "Its so complicated." I then got up and began walking. I'm going to go to the break room and at least try to distract myself from this feeling. It was a feeling that kind of pulled at my chest.

I got coffee and sat down at one of the chairs. Then while I was minding my own business, a random girl see's me and immediately her eyes widened. She quickly slid into the chair in front of me and leaned forward.

I eyed her. "Yes?"

"Is it true the Mr. Khalid is cancelling on our project?" She quickly blurted.

I pinched my nose. "Yeah, I think so." I said with an annoyed tone because I really didn't need this right now.

Her shoulders slumped. "That sucks!" She commented. "It would been such a great bump for us." She sighed.

I looked at her. My initial thought was that she cared for Amir but it turns out she actually cared for the company itself. This was quite odd.

I frowned. "Really? You care this much?" I asked without thinking.

"Of course! Linda is my aunt and she's really worried. I feel bad for her." The blonde blue eyed girl explained and my eyes widened. I felt horrible that Linda was going through this. I knew she would be in trouble with the department because they had planned a lot and invested in Linda to pick up this company even a little bit.

"You're her niece." I put down my coffee and looked at her. "I'm sorry I didn't get your name."

"Abby." She held out her hand and I reached to shake it. "But yeah. Linda is going through a lot because of that stupid rich asshole." She cursed and I laughed.

I then bit my lip and thought as she sat there thinking. "I think there is a way to fix it." I quickly got up and threw away my coffee before bolting out of the office.

I didn't even hear what Abby shouted before i ran out of the room. I just called Choji and told him to ask Sameer where the hell is Amir.

"I don't know if you remember Malak." Choji said, "But I 'm not good freinds with Sameer."

I rolled my eyes. "Choji please!" I pleaded and then he finally agreed to text me once he had the answer.

I got into my car and threw my purse in the back. I was not waisting any time. I knew Amir pretty well and I had a feeling he was going to pull a disappearing at like before.

*******

Ten minutes into my driving, while stuck in the torturous  LA traffic, I finally got an answer for where in the world Amir was at.

The damn airport.
