"Great!" Linda clapped her thin pretty hands together. "Get to know each other and hopefully we both benefit." She patted my back and smiled. Her heels clicked behind her and her gold hair swayed as she walked out of the meeting room.
Panic started to build up in me and all I could do was stare at my shoes. "Well since is the first time," Amir's voice held a bit of disgust at those words, "it's best if we go grab a cup of coffee sometime." I heard him say. His voice held a bit of regret as if he had just said that accidentally.
I forced myself to look up and meet his blazing green eyes that I honestly missed so much. They don't look any different but I know they have seen more than me.
Me and Amir were separated by too much time even if we now together. There is a large gap between us. A large gap full of hurt, blame, and misunderstanding.
I nodded. "Yeah that sounds great." I lied. I didn't want to anywhere with him because I would not be able to keep this act up.
I collected all the paperwork back and put them in my arms. I left without looking back but I could feel Amir's gaze burning a hole into my back.
******
I dragged myself home.
My heart felt heavy in my chest and my mind wasn't in the right place. I just felt very off and Today's incident kept rewinding in my head.
I sighed. I'll just suck it up but I wanted hit myself for saying I didn't know who he was. Of course I knew but my stupid mouth blurted those words and I can't take them back. Especially now that Amir's demeanor was very stiff and unpleasant.
"Why are you so stupid Malak?!" I shouted at my reflection in the mirror. I was brushing my teeth and getting ready for another hellish day.
I rinsed my mouth and walked into my bedroom. My phone was surprisingly vibrating on my bed.
I picked up the phone. "Hello."
"Malak! Amir is in town." Boy was Choji late. "And h-"
"I know." I sighed. "I've met him."
I then heard another gasp on the other line that wasn't Chojis. "Who's that?" I asked.
"Oh Hi Malak!" It was Zach. I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"Hi Zach." I said in monotone.
"Sorry Malak." Choji sighed and then they began fighting over the phone.
"Guys." I began but they still didn't hear me. "Choji," I said agian but no they were still fighting. "GUYS!" I screamed and they both shut up. "Can you here me now?"
"Yes." They both said in unison.
"Good," I said. "I'll be going to sleep. I'll meet you guys tomorrow."
"Okay bye Malak!" Zach yelled into my ears. I had to move it away from my face.
"Bye." I said tiredly. What does Zach eat. He's so hyper. I turned the phone off and headed to my bed.
I cringed at the thought that I'll be seeing him again tomorrow.
