My tongue sticks out of the corner of my mouth as I twist the screwdriver in my hand. The screw twists easily into place, completing the final piece of the baby gate. I pull back and place the tool back in the box before reaching over, testing it. It moves smoothly and a triumphant grin comes over my face.
"How's it all looking?"
I turn back and see Dean walking in with Mary in his arms as he takes in my handy work. I raise to my feet and dust my hands off on my pants as I look at it proudly, "Absolutely perfect baby."
He reaches over and tests it out, an impressed look coming over his face, "Wow, that's actually really good."
"Don't sound so surprised." I say, raising an eyebrow at him.
"You know what I mean." He says and I chuckle, nodding my head, "Yeah, I do. And that's finally the last of them done."
"Good, now we don't have to worry about this little rugrat getting into everything." He says playfully as he looks at Mary.
He tips her backwards and lets her hang upside down for a moment, a belly busting laugh emitting from her lips. Her shirt falls down her torso, giving him the opportunity to blow a raspberry on her belly.
"Dada!" She cries out, pushing his head away.
Straightening her back up, she reaches forward and takes his face in her hands, "Again."
"Again? Huh?" He says, allowing her to fall back once more and giggle hysterically.
A broad smile comes over my face as I watch the two interact, it being one of my most favourite things to witness in the world. The relationship that they have is so beautiful and I'm so blessed to be able to witness it.
Sam walks into the room as Dean straightens her back up and smiles widely at the little girl, "Mary boo!"
"Unce Sam!" She cries, reaching towards him.
He whisks her away from Dean and spins her around, causing her to let out a laugh. He comes to a stop and she looks him in the eye and demands, "Again!"
"Again? You're crazy!" He says in a silly voice.
He spins her away as he leaves the room, heading down the hallway. I smile after them and chuckle, giving a shake of my head, "Man, what I wouldn't give to have had an uncle like him when I was younger."
"Sammy has always had a way with kids, he's just got this energy with her." Dean says, walking over and taking a seat on the steps leading up to the front door.
"A lot more energy than I have at the moment." I say, taking a seat on the step below the one he's on.
I shuffle back in between his legs and lean back against his chest, his hands resting on top of mine and intertwining our fingers. I close my eyes and rest my head against him, his lips pressing into my hair. We're both quiet, the only sound being the laughter of Mary and Sam.
"How're you feeling?" Dean asks after a moment, a slight hesitation in his voice.
"I'm fine Dean." I state, knowing he's thinking about the trials, "My energy is just drained like any mother taking care of their energetic one year old."
