Chapter 2

Darkness streamed through my windows, awakening me. Vampires actually do sleep and I hated waking up. Especially today. I brushed my hair and my teeth and threw on some clothes. I wasn’t trying to impress king douchebag so I didn’t dress as good as usual.

I slowly walked to the place where I was told who I was assigned to.

Nervousness flowed through me as I reached my destination. I hesitantly walked inside and went up to the receptionist.

“Name?” She flashed a bright smile at me.

  “Er, Justin. Justin Bieber.”

“Mhm. Mr. Bieber. I’ll need you to sign this,” she handed me a clipboard. “And come back up here when you’ve finished.”

I nodded at her and grabbed the clipboard. I went back to the moldy, plastic chairs and filled out the needed information. I returned the clipboard back to the lady who nodded appreciatively.

“Justin Bieber?” A gruff man called minutes later. I stood up and followed him to the backroom.

“Your human is in room 8. Here’s their information,” He handed me a thin packet. “And once you get them, you’re free to leave and go to the king.”

“Thanks,” I squeaked. The man disappeared and I stared at the halfway open door. It took all I had not to turn back. I strode into the room with one bed. A lump was curled up beneath the covers and thanks to my super-hearing, I could hear their shallow breathing. As far as I could tell, the figure was thin. Pretty thin for a boy.

I walked to the sheets and said, “Hi.”

  No reply.

  “Uh, hi.” I repeated.

“Please don’t hurt me,” A tiny, feminine voice squeaked.

Feminine? WHAT THE HELL! I specifically told them I didn’t want a girl! I couldn’t stand the thought of a helpless girl’s life in my hands. My sick, murderous hands. I was disgusted. Too disgusted to even see their face. I backed up slowly and left the room.

    Wynter’s POV

Worry coursed through me. I’d never had a master, but I knew they didn’t like it when you didn’t answer them. I knew I would be facing major consequences. When I heard them leave I assumed the worse. Whip? Could he be going to get a whip? I shivered under the sheets and burrowed deep into the bed. Tears escaped my eyes.

I missed my family. I started sobbing. I had no clue where they were. Vampires had taken over our world after millions of years after they spawned and kidnapped every human. Most were killed, the rest saved to be tortured and feed on. I had heard what happened to humans when vampires were assigned to them. They would be abused in all ways and feed off of. And then eventually killed. I had heard legends and they weren’t pretty.

I heard footsteps approaching and I whimpered softly.

“I’m sorry, Justin, but you cannot get a new human.” A gruff voice said.

Justin? Justin wanted a new human? He didn’t like me? I was glad.

  “I specifically told you I didn’t want a girl!”

“Why wouldn’t you want a girl? You could-“

“What is wrong with you?! You’re sick!”

“I advise you don’t talk to an official like that, sir.” The man spat.

“Fine, I’ll take her.” He huffed. He said, storming out of the room.
