Chapter 8

 Justin’s POV

“Where are we going?” Wynter asked, gripping onto my arm.

“Somewhere safe.” I didn’t want to worry Wynter. I was taking her to country where I had gotten us a little cabin. It wasn’t much but it had 2 bedrooms and I had gotten 2 beds.

“Oh. I don’t like walking in the dark.”

“Don’t worry, we’re going to ride the bus.” I felt pretty lame about it now, but I didn’t have a car. I could always run to the location without losing a breath but I was pretty sure Wynter wouldn’t want me to do that.

“Oh, okay. Thank you, Justin. For everything.”

  “What do you mean?”

“Most masters would be meanies but you’re nice.”

  I smiled at her childishness.

“You’re welcome. I just want you to be safe.”

We reached the bus station and sat on the bench, waiting for the bus. I sat our luggage down next to us and sighed. This was hectic. I was running away from society just so my human wouldn’t get taken by the king who murdered my family.

I remember that day so clear…

  *FLASHBACK*

I walked hurriedly down the hall. I heard screams and tried to ignore it. As long as it wasn’t my family that was getting tortured. All because they were human... Non-employee vampires weren’t supposed to be here and definantly not to break out their family members.

I reached door 903 and shoved the key I stole into the lock. I twisted it and rushed inside.

My mom, my dad, my brother, my sister. They sat there, huddled together. They snapped their heads towards me and I noticed the scratches and bruises on their faces.

“Justin!” My mom rushed towards me and hugged me.

“Mom! What did they do to you?”

I notice blood trickling down their necks. I rushed past her and to my dad, brother and sister. They all had the same marks in the same places.

  “Dad.” I whispered.

My dad motioned me to crouch down so he could whisper something in my ear.

“They injected poison in us.” His voice cracked. “We don’t have much time left.”

Tears streamed down my face. “Who did this?”

  “The king himself.”

“Maybe he’s going to convert you?” I chocked on my words, knowing he chose the alternate route. Every full-blooded vampire who was born that way had the ability to convert a person into a half-vampire. The king had a special power though. He could choose to bite you and kill you or bite you and convert you into a full-vampire.

My dad shook his head sadly.

  “Ju-Ju.” Jackson whined.

“Hi, buddy.” I hugged him and more tears fell.

“Hey, Bieber.” Jasmine lightly smiled and her face contorted in pain. She was trying to be strong.

The door swung open and we snapped our heads towards it.

“Hello, Justin.” The king smiled cruelly. “I see you broke the rules. A shame, huh? And guess who has to pay for it?” His eyes flickered to each one of my family members.

“No,” I growled. “I will not let you.”

“Too late. Don’t mess with the king, Bieber.” He smirked and walked away. Instantly my family went limp like ragdolls.

  *END OF FLASHBACK*

  “Justin. Are you okay?”

  “I’m fine.” I lied.
