Normani
When I woke up, my head was pounding furiously like my brain and heart had mistakenly traded places. Why was the question I was asking as I reached my hand up, rubbing my forehead as the pounding started to turn into a painful headache. I was having a hard time thinking until my brain caught on and I remembered what happened last night.
Oh god. I kissed Lauren, and then I left her on her porch and went home. No, no, no, god damnit why was I this stupid. I hit my fist against the bed but it resulted in my hand making a painful popping noise as I looked around to see that I was on the couch and I had just hit my hand on the coffee table. Jeez, what happened last night. I couldn't remember anything except kissing Lauren and that was all.
"Normani, are you awake? Oh, sweetie. You have a fever," my mom spoke gently and I shivered as I looked at my hand, surprised to see it wet with sweat. "Come on, let's get you to bed. You have the chills." She helped me stand up and I looked around, feeling like I was gonna throw up.
"No, I gotta go to work," I argued tiredly as she helped me down the hallway and into my bedroom.
"Normani it's fine, we can close for one day. It's not gonna hurt anybody to wait till tomorrow if they need something," she answered as she made me get in bed before laying a hand on my forehead and shaking her head.
"But Lauren. I need to see her." I breathed deeply through my nose but failed and ended up having to breathe through my mouth as my laid the box of tissues next to me.
"Oh she'll be okay honey. Hopefully she didn't catch whatever nasty virus you did."
"Mom I'm fine. It's just a little cold. I can go to work."
"I don't know how you even caught this. You don't get sick very often."
"Mom please."
"Must've been someone from the theater. Was there someone behind you that was coughing a lot?" I groaned as she ignored me so I decided to answer her question and then get out of here.
"Yes. There's was this guy behind us who wouldn't stop coughing during the movie. I'm fine though. Can I please go now?"
"No Normani! You are sick, and I betcha that Lauren is too. That poor girl. You should call her and make sure she's okay." My mom left the room only to return quickly with a humidifier which she set up not too far away from me.
"I don't think that's a good idea," I mumbled as my mom raised an eyebrow and sat down on the bed, pushing a few strands of hair away from my away.
"I'm gonna get you an ice pack and when I come back, you're gonna tell me what happened." She stood up and left my bedroom as I sighed, knowing there was no getting out of this.
I don't know what I was thinking when I kissed Lauren. It was a stupid idea and possibly crushed our friendship but like she said, it didn't have to mean anything.
I sat up immediately, ignoring the aching in my head as I looked around for my phone. She said, it didn't have to mean anything. She didn't say it doesn't mean anything. She said it doesn't have to! I could feel the smile on my face. I wanted it to mean something. I was completely aware of that and I wanted her to know that. I did want that kiss to mean something between us because it certainly did for me.
