Did the last chapter make you angry and sad? It was supposed to.

Normani

I sat downstairs on a bench, expecting Lauren to turn up any minute. Royce had called so drunk I could barely understand him say Lauren is coming home. I was expecting to see his car, not her walking down the street, a pained and dazed expression written all over her face. I didn't get up and rush into her arms like she was expecting when she saw me. No, I stayed here and waited because I was mad.

She had went out without telling me and got drunk with Camila and Royce. If that couldn't get any worse, she had probably been alone all night, wandering around town. Her eyes were red and I could tell she was high as she sauntered up to me, smiling at me.

"Hey baby," she greeted lazily as I glared and shook my head.

"Don't hey baby me. Where the fuck were you?! Do you know how worried I've been?!" I exclaimed as she flinched and covered her ears, not making me feel any worse for the way I was treating her.

"Too loud," she muttered, squeezing her eyes shut as I rolled my eyes and grabbed her hand, yanking her to my car so I could take her to the hospital.

"I trusted your friends to take you, get your medicine, and spend the day with you until I got back from work. What I didn't expect was a call at two in the morning from Royce telling me that you were drunk and incoherent because you went to a party!" She just looked off into space as I shoved her into the passenger seat and slammed the door shut, going to the other side. I got in and took a deep breath, not daring to look her in the eyes as I turned the car on.

I sped out of the parking lot as she whispered,"I'm sorry."

"Bullshit Lauren. You're not sorry. God, I can't believe you. You're high! You're hungover!"

"It's not my fault Normani!"

"Yes it is! It was your choice to go to Camila. It was your choice to go to Tijuana. It was your choice to not go to the hospital like you were supposed to and go to a party. It was your choice to get high and it was your choice to get drunk. It was all your choice. No one made those decisions for you!" She leaned her head against the window and closed her eyes.

"I'm sorry," she apologized quietly but I could only roll my eyes.

"Tell me that when you're not on cloud nine."

She shut up after that and I took a rough turn into the parking lot of the hospital, being quick to park and get her out of the car. I wasn't going to waste anymore time arguing with her. I honestly just couldn't believe she had done this.

I took her into the hospital and when a nurse offered a wheelchair, I turned her down because I didn't need Lauren acting like an innocent little girl who hadn't done anything wrong.

Her actions were not unforgivable but it would take time for me to accept what had happened and move on. I let her walk to the back by herself and sat down, calling Clara.

"Hello Normani," she spoke.

"Hi Clara. I wanted you to know that Lauren is back and safe."

"Really? Thank the lord. Where was she?"

I was silent and she asked again. "Normani, where was she?"

"She was at a party," I told her and Clara sighed over the phone.

"She went without telling you?"

"Yeah. And she um...she got drunk, and high," I spoke quietly.

"Again?"

"What do you mean again?"

"Oh Normani. This isn't the first time this has happened. Lauren has had a past with marijuana."

"Well I know that. She was caught with marijuana in her suitcase when we were coming back from California but she wasn't doing it. I believe she was holding it for someone else."

"Yes but she used to go out with her old friends and get high almost every day. She actually smoked it instead of just keeping it for someone else. " I was shocked at the news as I looked up at Lauren who was coming back down the hallway. "I know she'll be angry at me for telling you but you needed to know. I don't want her to go down a path of alcohol abuse so please Normani, please try to help her."

"I don't want her to get hurt either Clara. I'll talk to her about it. Thank you for telling me."

"Of course. Have a good day."

"You too. Bye." I hung up and looked up at Lauren who's eyes were still red as I stood up and grabbed her arm, nodding towards the exit. "Let's go."

"Where are we going?"

"Home."

"I'm hungry."

"We can eat at home." We walked outside and went to the car where we got in and I drove to my house, knowing it was better to ask for my mother's guidance.

"I thought we were going home?"

"Oh sorry. I meant my home." Lauren sent me a nasty look as I parked in front of my house and got out, taking my girlfriend up to the front. I knocked on the door and my mom opened up, immediately smiling when she saw us.

"Baby! Lauren! You're here!" She exclaimed, leaning forward and hugging me before hugging Lauren too.

She let us inside and smiled at both of us. "Please, have a seat. Let me make some tea," she said and Lauren went to the couch, looking around as if she had never been here. I followed my mom into the kitchen and to the stove where she raised an eyebrow at me.

"Please tell me she has allergies and she's not high," my mom said as she turned the stove on and leaned against the counter.

"She is," I told her and she sighed.

"Normani, you know how I feel about that."

"I know mom. That's why I came here. I don't know what to do." I explained to her what had happened and my mom listened carefully, showing she cared about the situation. After I finished, she poured some tea and handed me a cup.

"I don't see Lauren as someone who would abuse alcohol but sometimes over excessive drinking can lead to that. I think you just need to be there for her and show her that she doesn't need to go and get wasted at a party to be happy." I listened and nodded, understanding what she was saying. "As for the marijuana. You know I don't feel comfortable with that in my home but you're an adult. That is completely your choice. I can't change her mind but I won't allow it in my house."

"I understand mama." She smiled and leaned forward, kissing my forehead.

"Okay baby. Take some tea to Lauren. I'm going to make some cookies for you guys. I'll be out in a little bit."

I left the kitchen with two mugs and brought one to Lauren before sitting next to her on the couch. I took her hand in mine and she turned towards me.

"Yeah?" She asked as I reached one hand up and pushed a few strands of hair behind her ear.

"Can you please call me if you're going to go to a party? I worry about you Lauren. I don't want you to ever be in a position where you're in an unsafe situation and I don't know where you are. That scares me. What if you were in a car with a drunk driver? You could get hurt baby." She looked at me with nervous green eyes as they glinted with guilt. It felt like there was something she hadn't told me. "Okay?"

"Okay." She nodded and leaned forward, wrapping her arms around my neck. Strangled breaths came from her and I knew she was crying as she squeezed her hands in my hair. "I'm so sorry Normani," she cried, but I felt as if it were for so much more than going to a party.

"I am so so sorry. You have no idea how sorry I am for doing it," she whispered.
