Lauren
"Took you long enough to realize it," I told her as she cracked a smile and pressed her lips back against mine, kissing me slowly.
"Shut up smartass," she muttered after the short kiss, pulling her head back to look me in the eyes. "I'm so sorry I ever broke up with you. Nothing and no one should've been able to take me away from you, and I'm sorry they did.
"Hey! What the fuck is this?! Get off my girl!" Ty exclaimed angrily as I looked up at her. I giggled at the thought of Normani having a little switch that went from dominant to submissive because the way her eyes shielded and she shoved me behind her so quickly, it did things to my head. She could flip in the matter of a split second. "Lauren come on. Our reservation is now, we need to go." Ty tried to reach for my hand and Normani legitimately slapped it away, leaving the man to bring it to his chest and glare at her.
"Back off dude. It ain't happening," Normani said and he narrowed his eyes down at her.
"No. You don't get to come sweep in and kiss my girl like you're some superhero because you're not Normani. She's interested in me, no one else."
"Usually, I would use the proof that she just let me kiss her two times to contradict that but you're a nice guy Ty. I don't think I want to hurt you like that."
"Don't patronize me."
"I'm sorry Tyrone. This just, this wasn't going to work out. I'm really sorry," I apologized and he took a deep breath, the action not seeming to even calm him the slightest.
"Are you fucking serious, Lauren?!! I treated you like a queen! What did she do? She dumped you and jumped to the next girl like nothing!" He retaliated and Normani's hand came back, latching onto mine.
"I can treat her like the princesa she is so don't insult me. I made a mistake but that's none of your business. The things that go on between Lauren and I are not your business so stop," Normani defended. "She is mine. Back down." Normani's jaw was clenched as she demanded for him to quit which only seemed to infuriate him even more.
"I'm sorry Ty. Please just leave. I don't want a fight," I said and he shook his head, scoffing at my words.
"You're with me!"
"No she isn't! You two aren't dating and she has the right to break things off. Stop being stubborn and just quit it!" Normani yelled as a few heads turned towards us.
"Whatever. This is stupid," he grumbled before walking away down the street. Normani turned towards me, pulling me into her arms immediately as I took a deep breath. I felt safe in her hold.
"I'm sorry," she whispered and I shook my head, burying my face in her shoulder.
"It's okay," I mumbled, just happy to be right here with her. I felt bad for Ty but I don't think he should've acted the way he did. I wasn't his and I wasn't necessarily Normani's either which I would talk to her about later. She shouldn't have ran up and kissed me like she did but it wasn't all her fault. "Y-you broke up with her didn't you?" I asked hesitantly, feeling bad for Dinah. I really felt terrible about what had happened. It was all a mess.
"I did. I just didn't love her like I love you. We have something special Lauren. I don't think anything compares to that because when I see you, you're the only one I want to be with. You are my-"
"Astonishment." She pulled away, her hand still linked with mine as she began to walk.
"You are. You have surprised me so much Lauren. I never thought I'd end up here with you and I never thought the things that happened would. You are truly a wonder to this world." My cheeks turned pink at her words as she continued to talk. "I don't think there's anyone as spectacular as you Jauregui. No one could compare to you."
There was a softness in Normani's eyes that seemed to make me fall in love all over again as she looked down at me. "I love you," she spoke closely, as if it were a secret that only I could have.
"I love you too," I answered the same way, letting her keep me close as we walked back to the campus.
"Do you think we can make this work again?" She asked and I nodded my head.
"I want to more than anything. I don't think I can live without you Normani. Literally. You saved my life." She stared at me with so much emotion in her eyes, I felt like my knees were going to give out from beneath me and I was going to fall. There were tears starting to become visible as we crossed a street together.
"I guess you were just in luck that I really cared about you," she said and I chuckled, laying my head on her shoulder. "I think we just need to start over. Let things have a fresh beginning."
"But I like all my memories with you."
"Even though we broke up?"
"I think it made us who we are Mani. I liked the late nights when we would watch your weird English movies. I liked going to the beach and surfing with you. I liked hanging out with your family and having you hang out with mine. I liked it all. In fact I loved it. Even when there were nights when you had to be out late and I would lay in bed waiting for you to come back, I felt okay because I knew you were going to come. We love each other baby."
"Damn right about that." She grinned and stopped abruptly, looking up at an ice cream shop.
"What's wrong?"
"I just remembered something."
"What is it?"
"When you were in the hospital in Mexico City. I promised when we came back that I would get you ice cream. You were so drowsy and out of it but you were determined."
"I don't remember that."
"Yeah. The meds had you out of whack those couple of weeks but I know you pleaded for me to take you to get some."
"So?"
"So let's go. I'm not breaking that promise."
I'm convinced Normani is the best person in the whole entire world.
"Okay." I nodded and she pulled me in, smiling excitedly as her eyes shot to the menu.
"What do you want? Chocolate or vanilla? I know you don't like the other flavours."
"Um..vanilla. Always vanilla."
She smiled and nodded, walking up the the cashier. I watched as she ordered and I sat down in a little booth next to a window, waiting for her to return. However, she was still up at the front when my phone rung. Picking it up, I answered immediately when I saw it was my father calling.
"Hello? Papí?" I spoke.
"Lauren. Something's happened," he answered quickly.
"What? What happened?"
"Your grandpa. He's been injured. They don't kno-" I didn't need my father to finish the sentence before I was getting up and sprinting out of the ice cream place, my head pounding with thoughts. What happened to him?
