Normani
When I arrived back home, I waited for Lauren at another terminal. She had been escorted back home but I still didn't know why they had taken her in the first place. What had Lauren done?
I was sitting in a seat, waiting patiently as my feet tapped against the ground, feeling slightly nervous for some reason. It wasn't long before Clara showed up, looking very angry as she marched down the airport corridor.
Once she spotted me, she came to me and I smiled nervously, her features immediately softening. "Oh Normani. I'm so sorry," she said and leaned down, hugging me gently.
"It's okay. There's really nothing to be sorry about," I said and shrugged. "I just want to know what happened."
"You don't know?"
"No..." I looked up at her and she sighed.
"They found cannabis in Lauren's suitcase."
"W-what?" I stared at her in shock as she nodded. "No, that has to be a mistake. Lauren doesn't smoke weed."
"Well they found it in her bag. I don't know how it got there or why but we're so lucky she got to come back. Sometimes the United States tries to detain people if they're not from the United States."
"Why? I mean they let her go so..."
"She's a young kid who just went to a pride march. If the media got ahold of that, it would backfire for he United States right away."
I nodded and sighed as I thought about Lauren. Why was there weed in her bag? "Clara, couldn't it have like really hurt her if she smoked it. With the condition her lungs are in."
"Yes. Are you sure you two didn't do anything with it?"
"I'm sure. I don't even know how she got it. I've never done anything like that in my life."
"Okay, I believe you Mija. We'll just have to wait to see what Lauren has to say about this."
She sat down with me and people started to come out of the exit, Lauren eventually appearing. There were two guards on her sides, watching her closely as she saw us. I stood up and she immediately charged into my arms, wrapping her arms around my neck tightly.
"It wasn't mine. I swear to god. It wasn't mine," Lauren whispered in my ear as the officers made their way to us.
"On the grounds of Mexican American diplomatic rights, Lauren Jauregui is here by released with a citation for illegal holding of cannabis," the officer on the right spoke, handing over an envelope to Clara.
"A fine of one thousand dollars is owed to the Department of International Travels by August seventeenth. Thank you for your cooperation."
They turned and left, leaving Lauren to still be hugging me before Clara yanked her off of me.
"¿Te importa explicar lo que hiciste?" Clara spoke angrily, pulling Lauren with her as we walked to the exit. I didn't know what she was saying but it sounded like she was asking Lauren if she wanted to explain what she had done. "¿Por qué estaba en tu bolsa?" She questioned, sounding very angry as we went outside. Why was that in her bag? I don't know how it could've even gotten in there to be honest.
"¡¡¡No fue mia!!!" Lauren defended as we went to the car and got in. They continued to bicker on in Spanish as I stopped listening, knowing it wasn't my business. I could tell Lauren was in trouble because I heard something about not being able to travel anymore but hopefully Clara wasn't serious about that. I wanted to take Lauren to see so many other places.
