~* Venus's POV *~
Sebastian received intel about the Dark Knight's plan to assassinate her majesty tonight. I knew that my brother would be there, I having no choice but to stop him. I wanted nothing more than to go back to the time where our parents were alive, Chrissy and I playing at the park as our parents watched with a smile playing on their face.
But then..
I wouldn't have met Ciel. I would still be the oblivious, little girl, unbeknownst to the dangerous world around her. I would have lived a normal life with her ordinary family. My life wouldn't be on the line every day, I wouldn't have to fight my own brother. All this blood wouldn't have been stained on my hands. I would have just been normal.
Would that have been better? To live a normal life? What if... what if..?
"Venus?"
I was snapped back to reality. Heavy rain pattered on the carriage, the sound of the horses' hooves pounding on the ground as they galloped towards the palace. Ciel stared at me in worry, his hand placed on my clenched fist.
"Are you alright?" he questioned.
"Don't you ever wonder what it would be like if all this tragedy never happened?" I murmured, "What if we were just normal people?"
"No. Never."
I looked up at him in confusion, "Why?"
"Because I would have never met you," he stated.
My eyes widened.
"I would have grew up to be a spoiled little boy, his life nothing but luxury. I would have taken over my father's title of the Queen's Guard Dog. I would have killed and killed until it was all that I can do. You probably would be a normal village girl. We wouldn't have met because of our ranks. I would have been all alone. I know it sounds selfish but you saved me from losing myself, Venus. I am still myself thanks to you. And I want to show my gratitude for you for the rest of my life."
A cute blush crept on his cheeks, his confession bringing a smile to my face. He practically said he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I rested my head on his shoulder, snuggling to his embrace. I closed my eyes and for a moment, I forgot about everything. It was just Ciel and I, together.
But reality prevailed.
The carriage halted. Sebastian opened the carriage door, helping us out. Forest surrounded us, just far ahead, the Queen's palace stood tall. Ducking behind a bush, we peered at the large building, nothing but silence being heard. It was quiet. Too quiet.
"Shouldn't there be guards?" I questioned. Ciel nodded, confused.
We walked up to the large double doors, Sebastian using his inhuman strength to break inside. Once we entered, we were greeted with unconscious bodies sprawled all over the place. Some were alive but most weren't, blood pooling from underneath them.
"Found the guards," I muttered in disgust as we walked over them. Their faces were twisted in agony, a look of fear contorted with pain in their bloodshot eyes. Ciel looked appalled and I couldn't help but to feel the same way.
"We should just take down the leader. Without their leader, they would have no choice but to surrender. Let's get this done quietly-"
"INTRUDERS!!"
We were spotted. I huffed in annoyance, Ciel smirked in amusement. There goes my plan.
"Sebastian, take care of them."
The butler bowed before taking off. Ciel grabbed my hand and off we went, heading straight for the Queen's throne room. My legs began to feel heavy, knowing that my brother might be there. But I knew I had to keep going. Perhaps I could show how much of on idiot Chrissy has been and change his mind. Yes, that's what I have to do, no matter what.
We stopped and hid behind a statue, spotting guards standing outside a certain room. Something important must lay beyond there. Something or someone. I small part of me hoped Chrissy wasn't even here. I had a terrible feeling about tonight.
"I'll take the three men on the right. You take the one's on the left," I stated, revealing my gun. Ciel nodded, determination burning in his eye(s).
"Wait, but there is only one man on the left-" Crap, he noticed.
"And go!" I ordered, running towards them, not giving him a second to process. Come on, we all know that Ciel's skills in combat are lacking.
Aiming the gun, the bullet rang through the air before piercing one of the guard's chest, most likely puncturing a lung. He fell to the ground, groaning in pain. Leaping over him, I lunged towards the surprised men. My heel dug right into his gut, making him double over in pain. As the other man charged towards me, I reached towards my waistband and grabbed a colt, firing it straight for his head. One dead. Two injured. Two more to go.
The one that lay struggling to get up, I quickly straddled him, pinning him to the ground by pressing his weak points. He lay there paralyzed for a few seconds. Not wasting anytime, I struck his neck and dug my nails in, grabbing the windpipe. Already drawing blood, I curled my lips in disgust. I quickly pulled it out, lacerating his throat and killing him. My sadistic side made an appearance as I walked towards the last man alive, not feeling any remorse. After all, this is what I am trained to do. A monster that kills.
Ciel stood behind me, already done dealing with the other man. His eyes fell upon the bloodied guards I had dealt with and then he looked at my bloodstained hands. Instinctively, I hid my hands behind my back, ashamed, not wanting him to see them.
He said my name in concern, "Venus.."
"I'm fine," I said sharply. Breathing in deeply and exhaling, I tried to calm myself with my eyes closed. Taunting voices reached my mind. Monster! Monster! No wonder Chrissy betrayed you!
A hand reached out and gently tucked strands of hair behind my ear.
"Venus," Ciel whispered, "It's okay. You're okay. I'm here."
Opening my eyes, I stared into his reassuring orbs. I nodded, feeling the weight lift off my shoulders. That's right. After tonight, everything will be okay as long as Ciel is there. That is why we must win. We have to win. No matter who gets in my way, I will bring them down. Victory will be ours.
My eyes narrowed at the man gasping in pain, the bullet I had shot pierced in his lung, blood pooling around him. Ciel followed my gaze, a cold glare shown on his face.
He walked up to the man, "Where is your leader?"
"Y-You bastard! Phantomhives, the evil nobles.. You deserve to die! You have dirtied this world with your tainted existence! Your precious Queen is being held hostage by Sir Christopher! I can't wait 'till he kills you and restores peace!"
The mention of my brother brought chills down my spine.
Ciel's glare darkened, "Where is the Queen?"
"On the gateway to hell!" he snarled, "And you will soon follow! HAHAHA!"
His laugh held pure insanity. By the looks of it, he was going to die a slow, painful death by a collapsed lung. He was already too far gone. No one can save him now. And besides, he threatened someone I hold very dear. His death is already inescapable.
With my finger hovering over the trigger, I sneered the last words he ever heard,
"I am worse than hell."
Bang!
