It's the next day, as we're all at the Police Station, talking to the Sheriff, one by one. "I asked Stefan to help. I thought that by helping Vicki, he was helping my brother." I say. "What was her behavior like those last few days before she left?" She asks. "Sketchy." I say. "Any signs of Aggression or Violence?" She asks. "No." I say, shaking my head. "So you believe Vicki really has left town?" She asks. "Yes." I say, nodding my head. I soon walk out of the Police Station with Jeremy and Jenna, and see Stefan, and look at Jeremy and Jenna. "I'll meet you guys at the car." I say. "Ok." She says, and they walk down the steps, and I look at Stefan, and walk down the steps, over to him. "You okay?" He asks. "I don't think the Sheriff suspected anything." I say, shaking my head. "Jeremy had no memory at all. All he knew was what Damon made him know." I say. "Thank you." He says, nodding. "I can't do this, Stefan." I say, shaking my head. "Every time I look at Matt or Jeremy, all I think is that Vicki is never gonna come back, and they'll never know why. Around you, people get hurt, and people die, and I just. I. It's just too much. I." I  say, and he interrupts me. "Why don't we go somewhere and talk about it?" He asks. "No. Stefan, you have to stay away from me. No matter how hard I don't want you to." I say, and walk off. I'm sitting on my couch, leaning back, with my feet up and my black blanket over me, miserable, and Jenna sits next to me, leaning back. "You're wallowing." She says, and I look at her. "So are you." I say. "My wallowing is legitimate. I was dumped." She says, and I look at my blanket, messing with it. "Yeah. Well, Logan's a jerk." I say. "You didn't get a brushoff email saying, I'm leaving town. See ya." She says, as I look at her. "Wanna keep it down over there?" Jeremy asks, and she sits up, and looks behind her. "Why? What are you doing?" She asks. "Homework." He says, and I sit up, looking at him. "Since when do you do homework?" I ask. "I gotta finish this. I'm way behind, and I have a quiz tomorrow, so.." He says, and looks at his papers. "What do you think?" I ask, looking at her. "Alien?" I ask, and look back at him. "Some sort of replicant." She says. "A new scientific discovery." I say, and he looks up at us. "He can hear you." He says, fake smiling, and looks back at his homework. I'm asleep in my bed, and hear a knocking, and wake up, and see Mark at the door, smiling. "You up?" He asks. "No." I say, and pull my covers over me, and hear the door shut, and footsteps, and he pulls the covers off. "No. No." I say, grabbing my covers. "Why haven't you called me back?" He asks, and I sigh. "I'm sorry." I say. "Are you gonna stay in there forever?" He asks, as I'm looking up at the ceiling. "Yep." I say, and he sighs. "Move over." He says, walking to the side of my bed, as I scoot over to the left, and he lays down, and I'm looking forward, laying down. "I'm officially worried. What's going on?" He asks, and I sigh. "I'm tired of thinking, of talking. I." I say, and look at him, and look forward again. "Can I get an one line version so I can at least pretend to be helpful?" He asks, and I look at him. "Stefan and I broke up." I say. "I'm so sorry." He says, and I look forward. "Are you okay?" He asks, and I look at him. "Right. Stupid question." He says, and sighs. "I know I've been kind of MIA when you need me the most." He says, as I'm looking up. "I suck." He says. "You wanna make it up to me? Get my mind off of it." I say, and look at him, and he smiles. "Just remember you asked for it." He says, sitting up, and gets up, as I look confused, and sit up, and he runs over to the window, closing it, and grabs a letter opener, and picks up one of my pillows, taking the black case out of it, and rips my pillow open with the letter opener, smiling. "Hey!" I exclaim. "Be patient." He says, and shakes my pillow, and the feathers come out. "Ok." I say, nodding, and he sits in front of me. "I need to swear you to secrecy." He says. "It's kind of, um.. a bad week for that kind of stuff." I say. "Swear, because I'm not supposed to be showing you this." He says. "Ok. I swear." I say. "Ok, there's no windows open, right?" He asks, and I look around. "Right." I say, and look back at him. "There's no fan, no air conditioning." He says. "None. What are you doing?" I ask, looking down. "Grams just showed me this. You're gonna love it. You ready?" He asks, and I look up at him, and nod, as he's smiling, and puts his hand over a feather, and it begins to float without him touching it, and I gasp, and he sets it down, without touching it, as I look at it, and back up to him. "Mark, what's going on?" I ask, and he uses both hands, and levitates seven feathers, and I smile, and he sets them down, as I look at them. I look back up to him, and he smiles, and a whole bunch of feathers float into the air, and I gasp again, sitting up, laughing. "It's true, Ethan. Everything my Grams told me. It's impossible, but it's true. I'm a Warlock." He says, as I'm looking up, and nod. "I believe you." I say, and look at him, and laugh, and so does he. "It's weird, huh? After all this time joking about being psychic, I really am a witch." He says, and we both laugh. "You don't think I'm a freak now, do you?" He asks. "No. Of course not. Uh, Mark, I just. I don't understand, though. If your Grams asked you to keep all this a secret, why did you tell me?" I ask. "You're my best friend. I can't keep secrets from you." He says, smiling, and I nod. I soon arrive to Stefan's house, and ring the bell. "It's open. Come on in." A female voice says, and I open the door, and walk in, and shut it, but not all the way, and look around, and hear footsteps, and turn to my left, and see a girl with blonde hair in a towel with wet hair, as she gasps at me. "Oh, my God. How, uh.. what? Who.." She says, pointing at me, and then puts her finger down. "Uh.. I'm Ethan. Who are you?" I ask, pointing at myself, and then to her, and put my finger down, and she raises hers. "Lexi, a friend of Stefan's." She says, and puts her finger down. "Is he here?" I ask, looking to my left. "He's in the shower." She says, and I look at her. "Um, do you wanna wait?" She asks. "No." I say. "I'll tell him you stopped by." She says, smiling. "That's okay." I say, and walk back to the door, and open it more, and walk out, and close it. It's later at night, as I open my door, heading to Tony's party, and see Stefan, and he gives a small smile. "Hey." He says. "What are you doing here?" I ask, looking down, and back up to him. "Um, Lexi said that you came by and you. You seemed upset." He says. "Right. The girl in the towel." I say. "The towel?" He asks. "Mhm." I say, and he pauses for a moment, and smiles. "Oh. No, no. No, no, no. Uh.. not like that. No. I mean, I like both, but.. yeah. No. Uh, she's not exactly sure girl. Lexi's. Um.. she's three hundred and fifty years old." He says. "You mean she's a vampire?" I ask, and he nods. "And she's my oldest friend. Nothing romantic." He says, shaking his head. "Ever." He says, and I nod. "Oh." I say, smiling. "Ok, well.. she kept staring at me. It was weird." I say, walking backwards, and he walks in. "Well, you know, I've talked about you a lot, so.. guess she felt like she knew you." He says, and I nod, giving a small smile. "So why'd you come by?" He asks, as I'm looking down, and look up at him. "I, uh.. um.. it was a mistake." I say, and he walks closer to me. "Ethan, talk to me." He says. "I can't." I say, with my arms crossed, and sigh. "Stefan, I can't, and that's the problem. I'm keeping all these secrets from everyone. I can't even tell my best friend. Do you know how hard that is?" I ask, and he nods, looking down, and back up to me. "It's like I need to talk to someone, but the only person I can talk to is you, and.." I say. "I want you to know that I will always be here for you. You can come to me about anything, ok?" He asks, shaking his head, and I nod. "Well, thank you for coming by." I say, and he nods, and walks off, and stops, as I'm looking to the left. "Hey, do you need a ride to the Grill tonight?" He asks, as I look at him. "Are you going to Tony's party?" I ask, smiling, and he smiles back. "Lexi's dragging me. And.. it's my Birthday." He says, as I look down, and back up to him. "Really?" I ask, and he smiles. "So now you're a hundred and sixty two. Wow. um.. Happy Birthday then." I say, and he looks down, and back up to me. "Thank you." He says. "Actually, I, um. I think I'm gonna stay in tonight." I say, smiling. "Ok. Well, have. Have a good night then." He says, and walks off, and I close my door, almost, and look at him, and close it. I'm at the Grill, after talking myself into coming. I look around, and see him and Lexi playing Pool, and give a small smile, and see Damon walk in front of me a few feet away, and he looks at me, and I look the other way with my eyes, and he steps in front of me, smiling. "Stefan smiles. Alert the media." He says, walking behind me. "You haven't given him a lot of reasons to be happy lately." I say, as I see Stefan smiling. "Oh, you're right. Poor Stefan." He says, and I see them high five each other, and hold, smiling, and they release. "Persecuted throughout eternity by his depraved brother." He says, and I sigh. "Does it get tired being so righteous?" He asks. "Hmph." I say, and look at him. "It flares up in the contiguity of Psychopaths." I say, walking off. "Ouch." He says, and I stop. "Well, consider this Psychopath's feelings hurt." He says, sarcastically, and I turn around, looking at him. "What did you do to my brother?" I ask. "I'm gonna need a less vague question." He says. "When you did what you did to Jeremy's memory of Vicki, what else did you do to him?" I ask, and he approaches me. "You asked me to take away his memory of fangs and rawr and all the bad stuff. You wanted me to take away his suffering." He says. "But he's acting different. He seems okay with everything and a little too okay. I mean, he's studying. He's not doing Drugs. He's not Drinking. Are you sure you didn't do something else?" I ask. "Ethan, I took away his suffering." He says. I'm walking around, drinking a water. "Ah, the famous Ethan." Lexi says, as I look at her, and see she's holding three shot glasses. "Towel Girl." I say. "I've been called worse. Here." She says, and hands me one. "I didn't know that you guys could drink. And uh.. I've never drank before. "Oh, yeah. It helps curb the cravings, but makes for a lot of lushy vamps. And seriously, never?" She asks, and I shake my head, and laugh, and she downs her shot. "You know. I've never um.. seen Stefan drunk. He always seems so.." I say, and she interrupts me. "Uptight?" She asks, and I nod. "Yeah." I say. "Yeah." She says. "But not with you." I say, smiling, and point at her, and put my finger down, and she smiles. "Well, that's the benefit of knowing someone for over a hundred years. You can just be yourself." She says, and I look at him. "Yeah, he can't be himself with me." I say. "Well, not yet." She says, as I look down, and up to her. "The first step was him telling you. The rest comes with time. And I heard you were the smart one." She says. "I am, and you seem so sure." I say, and she smiles. "The love of my life was human. He went through what I imagine you're going through. Denial, Anger, etc. But at the end of the day, love really did conquer all." She says, smiling. "Are you gonna drink that?" She asks, and I hand it to her. "Oh. Uh.. no. Go for it." I say, and she downs it. "I'm scared." I say. "But you're here.. because you're crazy about him." She says, and I look at him, playing pool. "I get it, ok? I mean, what's not to love? Listen. Take it from someone who's been around a long time. When it's really, you can't walk away." She says, and I look at her, smiling, and I look down. "I.. love him." I say, as a few tears drop, and I look up at her, and she downs another one, and I laugh. "Whew. Then tell him." She says, and begins to walk off. "Hey, Lexi." I say, and she turns around. "It was really nice meeting you." I say, and she sways her shoulders back and forth, and stops, and walks off. I look over, and see him smiling at me, and I smile back. I walk over to them, and see him racking balls, and grab a pool stick, and he looks at me, and I smile. "Hi." I say. "Hey." He says, as I'm looking down, and look back up at him, and see him smiling. "You came." He says, extending his hand, and puts it down. "I couldn't miss your hundredth and sixty second Birthday." I say, and he smiles more, and looks down, and back to me. "No." He says, and nods, and Lexi walks off. "Um.. so I got you a gift." I say, and he laughs. "You didn't have to do that." He says. "Actually um.. two." I say. "Two? Wow." He says, looking down, smiling, and looks back to me. "First." I say, and pull out my Owl mug from my room from my bag, and hand it to him, and he laughs. "Wow. You know, it's a little creepy with its eyes. They just stare at you." He says, and I laugh. "And two." I say, and kiss him, and he holds my waist, gently. "I love you. Happy Birthday." I say, and he kisses my forehead, and I hug him, and he wraps his arms around my back, hugging me, and I smile, and he rubs my back, and I see the Sheriff with her deputies walk over to Lexi, and Damon, and I stop hugging him, and point, and he turns around, and I put my finger down, and they escort her out. "Oh, my God." He says, running off. "What is it?" I ask, following him, and we head to the door, and see it's blocked by deputies. "Can't go out this way." The officer says, and Stefan runs off, as I follow him. We run out the back door and outside, and see Damon stab her in the heart, and I gasp, about to scream, and Stefan covers my mouth, and we hide behind the wall. "Sh. Sh." He says, and I look at her after he's taking my hand off, and see her turn gray with veins, and stops to the ground, and I cry, and he shushes me, kissing the top of my head. He's jogging off, as I jog after him. "Stefan. Stefan." I say, touching his hand, gently, and he looks at me. "He killed her. He killed Zach. He killed Tanner. He turned Vicki. I have to kill him." He says, beginning to walk off again, and I follow him. "No. You can't do that." I say, and he turns around. "Why are you trying to save him, Ethan? He's never gonna change. Don't you see that? He's never gonna change." He says, mad, and walks off, and I jog after him. "I'm not trying to save him. I'm trying to save you." I say, and he turns around. "You have no idea what this will do to you. Please, Stefan." I say. "Everywhere that I go, Pain and Death follow. Damon follows me. No more." He says, turning around, and walks off, and I walk after him. "Stefan, please." I say, as he turns around. "Please, just. Just talk to me. Let me be here for you. Talk to me." I say. "No." He says, and looks down, shaking his head, and looks back to me. "You were right to stay away from me." He says, walking off.
