I'm outside of the school, talking with Tony, and my hand is back to its normal unstretchable state. "Have you even talked to Mark?" I ask. "No. I'm mad at him. He needs to make the first move." He says. "Be the bigger person." I say, and he sighs. "Impossible in his presence." He says. "Why are you so pissed at him, anyway?" I ask, smiling, and he looks at me. "He's a thief, that's why. I gave him my necklace, and he refuses to give it back. It's a matter of principle." He says, and looks forward. "All right. Well, I tried. I'm officially out of it." I say. "Good. Your turn." He says, and I look at him. "Where's Stefan? Have you talked to him?" He asks. "He's avoiding me." I say, and look to my left. "Why?" He asks, and I look forward. "It's.. complicated." I say, and the bell rings, and I look back at him. "I'll see you later." I say, and turn around, walking off. I walk into History class, and sit down, and face the front, and the bell rings, and I see Mark walk in and sit down. "Good morning, everyone." A man says, and I look at him. "Alrighty. Let's see." He says, and picks up chalk, and writes his name on the board, and I turn to Mark. "Are you okay?" I mouth, and he shrugs his shoulders, and I look back at the man, and he sets the chalk down, and turns around, wiping his hands together, and I see the board says Alaric Saltzman. "Alaric Saltzman." He says, pointing and smiling, and holds his hands together. "It's a mouthful. I know. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue." He says, and I look at Stefan's empty seat next to me on my right. "Saltzman is of German Origins. My family emigrated here in seventeen fifty five to Texas." He says, and I look back at him, and see he's walking around. "I, however, was born and raised in Boston." He says, and stops walking as he's at the left side of the board, and points to his name. "Now, the name Alaric belongs to a very dead Great Grandfather I will never be able to thank enough." He says, holding his hands together. "You'll probably want to pronounce it, Ala Ric, but it's A Lar Ic, ok?" He asks, and points at us. "So you can call me Rick." He says, and puts his hand down. "I'm your new History teacher." He says, smiling. I'm sitting outside with Mark, as he's telling me about his ancestor, Emily. "And then I ended up at the remains of old Fell's Church before I woke up back in the woods." He says. "And you always see your ancestor Emily?" I ask, and he nods. "Huh." I say, looking down, and back up. "Do you believe in ghosts?" He asks. "Two weeks ago, I'd say no, but now." I say, and he interrupts me. "I think I'm being haunted." He says. "I don't get it. Why Emily?" I ask. "Grams said she was a powerful witch back in the Civil War days, and that this medallion was hers." He says, touching his necklace that has a Amber Crystal, and puts his hand down. "A Witch's Talisman." He says. "And it all started when you got the necklace?" I ask. "I think she's using it to communicate with me." He says. "Ok, what does Grams say about it?" I ask. "I can't call her. She's gonna tell me to embrace it. I don't want to embrace it. I want it to stop." He says, and I sigh. I walk out of the school, and see Stefan sitting on a table, and smiles at me, and I smile back, walking over to him, and he stands up. "Hey." He says. "You weren't in class. I was worried." I say, and he looks down, and back to me. "Yeah, I got your messages, and sorry I didn't get back to you, but.. what I wanna say shouldn't be said over the phone." He says. "A simple, I didn't kill my brother, text would have been adequate." I say, smiling. "I didn't kill my brother, as much as he deserved it. He has you to thank for that." He says. "So what did you wanna tell me?" I ask. "I won't be coming to school anymore. I'm gonna back off and keep my distance. It's the right thing to do." He says. "Back off from school or.. from me?" I ask, and he sighs. "Thank you for telling me." I say. "It's better this way." He says. "Yep. I got it." He says, and looks to the left, and back to me. "You're angry." He says, nodding. "That's good. Be easier if you hate me." He says, and turns around, and walks off. I'm in the car with Mark, as he's driving, and we're talking about Damon. "He's bad news, Ethan. He really scared me." He says. "You need to stay as far away from Damon as possible." I say. "I'm trying. He just keeps showing up." He says, looking at me, and back to the road, and I look forward. "I don't want you to be alone." I say, and look at him, and he looks at me, and back to the road. "You're sleeping at my place tonight. We can make a whole night out of it." I say, and he looks at his necklace, touching it, and looks back at the road, and I look forward, and he drives off the road, into the grass. "Woah." I say, and look at him, as he opens his door, and gets out. "Where are you going?" I ask, and he shuts his door, and walks off, as I look at him, and he throws his necklace, and walks back to the car, opens his door, gets in, and shuts it. "Are you okay?" I ask, and helooks at me. "Now I am. All my problems were because of that thing. Can't believe I didn't do that sooner." He says, and I look forward, and back to him. "What's your Grams gonna say?" I ask. "Grams isn't the one being haunted by a hundred and fifty year old ghost, is she?" He asks, and I nod. "Ok, then." I say, and face forward, and look back at him. I walk to my door, after my doorbell rang. I called Stefan, and open the door, seeing him. "Hi." I say, and look back at Mark, and he's looking at me, and I turn back to Stefan. "Thanks for coming. I wouldn't have called if it wasn't important." I say. "I know that." He says, and I walk out, as he steps backwards, and I close my door. "He threatened him, Stefan." I say, walking around. "What would Damon want with Mark?" He asks. "He has this necklace. Tony got it from Damon, and he gave it to Mark, and now Damon wants it back, but Mark threw it. He's tormenting him." I say. "Over a necklace." He says, looking to the right. "It's not just any necklace. It has to do with Mark's Heritage." I say, and he looks at me. "It belonged to one of his ancestors who lived here during the Civil War." I say, and gasp. "When you and Damon lived here." I say. "Her name was Emily." He says, walking closer. "She was Alex's Handmaid and a Witch." He says. "You know?" I ask, and stop walking, and he nods, and I look back at the house, and back to him. "About Mark?" I ask. "The first night that you invited me over for Dinner, I made the connection." He says, and I sigh. "And now Damon knows, and for some reason, he wants that necklace." I say. "What does it look like?" He asks. "It's, um, and Antique Iron Setting with a." I say, and he interrupts me. "With an Amber Crystal. I know it. It belonged to Alex. Emily gave it to him, which means that.." He says, nodding. "What?" I ask. "I don't know, but I'm gonna find out. Let me talk to Damon." He says, turning around, about to walk off. "Will he tell you?" I ask, and he looks at me, and sighs. "I'll. I'll get it out of him." He says, nodding, and so do I, and he turns around, and walks off. I'm in my kitchen with Tony and Mark, and helping Tony unload the Mexican takeout, and look at Mark, and back to Tony. "Go on." I say, and he looks at him. "I'm sorry. There. I said it. If you want the ugly ass necklace, keep it." He says, and I glare at him. "It's yours." He says. "Will you hate me if I said I threw it away?" Mark asks, as I look at him. "You threw it away?" Tony asks. "I know it sounds crazy, but the necklace was giving me nightmares, I had to get rid of it." Mark says. "You could have just given it back to me." Tony says, and I look at him. "Why? So you could give it back to Damon?" I ask, and he sighs. "Screw Damon. Are we trying on outfits or what?" He asks. "My hat is in my bag." Mark says, and Tony walks over to his bag, and I open the containers of food. "So, Ethan.." Tony asks, and I look at him. "Hm?" I ask. "How long do you think this fight with Stefan is gonna last?" He asks, and I look down. "Ian it like a permanent thing?" He asks, and I pick up a tortilla chip, and dip it in salsa, biting it. "I don't know, Tony." I say, and he laughs. "Why are you such a little liar, Mark?" He asks, turning around. "What?" Mark asks. "Tony!" I exclaim, and he holds up the necklace, and I look at it, confused. We're talking about the necklace, as it's on the table. "I'm not lying to you, Tony. I swear." Mark says. "It's true. I watched him throw it into a field." I say, looking at Tony, and he looks at Mark. "Well, then explain it." He says. "Emily." Mark says, and I look at him. "Who's Emily?" Tony asks. "The Ghost." Mark says. "Oh, the Ghost has a name now?" Tony asks, and I hold my right hand up. "Tony, please." I say, and put my hand down. "I wonder why she won't leave me alone." Mark says. "Ok, what is going on?" Tony asks, and we look at him. "Why am I not a part of this conversation? You guys do this to me all the time." He says. "That's not true." I say, shaking my head. "Yes, it is." Mark says, and I look at him, and he looks at Tony. "I can't talk to you, dude. You don't listen." He says, and I look at Tony. "That's not true." He says. "I'm a Warlock." Mark says. "And don't we all know it?" Tony asks. "See? That's what I'm talking about. I'm trying to tell you something. You don't even hear it." Mark says, and I look at him, and he walks off. "I listen." Tony says, as I look at him. "When do I not listen?" He asks, and I sigh. Tony is talking to Mark, as I'm listening in. "Mark. Look, it's just not me, ok? I don't believe in the.. whoo whoo." He says, and sighs. "But if you do, then ok. I'm in. That's all it takes for me to jump onboard, because I consider you to be my best friend. And I'm saying this knowing that Ethan's in the Kitchen listening to my every word. Look, I didn't know how real this was for you, but I'm listening now. Ok?" He asks. "Ok." Mark says. "Ethan, you can come in now. We're done." Tony says, and I walk in, smiling, seeing them on the couch, and sit next to them. "Well, there is just way too much drama in this room. So what do you guys wanna do?" He asks, looking at Mark, and I shrug my shoulders, and he gasps, looking at me. "I have an idea." He says, and looks at Mark. "Why don't we have a seance?" He asks, and looks at me, and stands up. "I don't think that's a good idea." Mark says, as I look at Tony. "Come on. Let's summon some spirits. This Emily chick has some serious explaining to do." He says, and Mark and I look at each other. We're sitting on my floor in the dark, by only the light of a candle, holding hands. "What are we doing?" Mark asks, and I look at him. "I don't know." I say. "Sh." Tony says, and I look at him. "Be quiet and concentrate. Ok, close your eyes." He says, and I sigh, and close my eyes. "Ok, now take a deep breath." He says, and we all take a deep breath. Tony a big one, and we exhale. "Mark, call to her." He says. "Emily.. you there?" Mark asks, and I open my eyes, looking at him. "Really? Emily you there? That's all you got? Come on." Tony says. "Fine. Jeez." Mark says, and we close our eyes again. "Emily.. I call on you. I know you have a message. I'm here to listen." He says, and the other four candles light up, and we put our hands down, as we open our eyes. "Did that just?" I ask, and Tony interrupts me. "Yeah. That just happened." He says, and a breeze blows, and he gasps. "It's just the air conditioning." Mark says, and the flames get higher. "Ask her to show you a sign. Ask her. Emily, if you're among us, show us another sign." Tony says, and nothing happens. "See? It's not working." Mark says, and the window flys open, and we all scream, and Mark stands up. "No. I can't. I'm done." He says, and takes the necklace off, and throws it down, and the candles blow out. "Get the light. Please get the light." He says, as I get up, and walk over to the light, feeling for it. "Hold on. Hold on." I say, and feel it. "I got it." I say, and turn the light on, and Mark looks down. "You guys, the necklace, it's gone." He says, and I walk over to the candles, and look down, not seeing the necklace, and look up at Mark. "Ok, fun's over, Tony. You made a point, and I get it. Now give it back." I say, extending my right hand. "What? Well, I didn't take it." He says, and I sigh, and see a shadow go by at the corner of my eye. "What? What happened?" He asks. "I don't know. Nothing. Jeremy, are you home?" I ask, walking out of my door, locking around. "Um.. guys.." Mark says, and I turn around, looking at him, and he walks in the bathroom, and the door shuts, and he screams. "Oh, my God!" He yells, as we run to the door, banging on it. "Mark? Mark!" I exclaim. "You got to open the door!" He yells. "Mark, what's going on?" Tony asks. "Mark! Try the other door. I'll check the hallway." I say, running off, and bang on the door, and the lights flicker, and Mark screams, and I run back to where Tony is. "Open the door!" Tony yells, and the lights stop, and we hear the door unlock, and it opens, and Mark has his hands in his face, and we walk in. "What happened? Are you okay?" I ask, and he looks up at us, and puts his hands down. "I'm fine." He says. "Unbelievable. You were totally faking it." Tony says, and I look at him. "Tony, come on." I say. "No, you scared the shit out of me." He says, and walks off. "Mark?" I ask. "I'm fine. Everything's fine." He says, and walks past me, and I look at him. "I can't believe I fell for it." Tony says. "Are you okay?" I ask, as Mark begins walking off. "I must go." He says. "He's leaving, I'm leaving." Tony says, and Mark walks to the stairs. "You guys can't leave." I say. "Oh, I can. I've had enough freaky fake Warlock stuff for one night." Tony says, crossing his arms. "Thank you for having me. I'll take it from here." Mark says, and walks down the stairs. "Where are you going?" I ask. "Back to where it all began." He says. "Mark." I say, going after him. "Mark." I say, stopping at the top of the stairs. "Oh, my God. Emily!" I exclaim, and he looks at me. "I won't let him have it. It must be destroyed." He says, and opens the door, as I run after him. "Wait!" I exclaim, running to the door, and it closes, and I pull on it. "What's happening?" Tony asks, running down the stairs. "I don't know. The door, it's not." I say, and it opens, quickly, and I step back, and we both scream, and see Jeremy. "What the fuck?" He asks, and walks past us, and Tony and I look at each other. "I'm outta here." He says, and runs off, and I dial Stefan. "What's wrong?" He asks. "It's Mark." I say. "What happened?" He asks. "Emily is possessing him. She said something." I say. "What did she say?" He asks. "She said, I won't let him have it. It must be destroyed, and then she just left." I say. "Ok. Where do you think she went?" He asks. "I don't know. Fell's Church. By the old Cemetery. That's where she took Mark in his dreams. We have to help him, Stefan." I say. "All right. All right. Just stay there. I'm gonna go find him." He says, and hangs up. I soon arrive to Fell's Church, running, and I see Mark in a circle of fire. "Mark!" I yell, and Stefan runs to me, stopping me, and Mark throws the crystal into the air, and it explodes, and sparks come out, he looks down, and the fire ends, and he looks up, looking around, and Damon attacks him, and Stefan vampspeeds to Damon, pushing him off, and I run over to them, and see Mark on the ground, his neck bleeding, and Stefan listens for his heart, and stands up, looking at me. "He's alive, but barely. I can save him." He says, biting his wrist, as I'm crying, and turn to Damon, and look back at Stefan, and he feeds Mark his blood, and Mark groans. "His neck, it's healing." I say, and sigh in relief. I'm by my Jeep with Mark. "I don't understand, Ethan, what happened to me. He attacked me, and.. his face was like.." He says. "How do you feel? Are you okay?" I ask. "I'm fine. It's. It's just this blood. I don't.." He says, crying, and stops talking, and looks behind me, and I turn around, and see Stefan. "I'm not gonna hurt you." He says, and I look back at Mark. "What's going on, Ethan?" He asks. "I'll explain everything, Mark, ok? Let's just get out of here." I say, shaking my head, and he looks at Stefan. "Mark. Mark, look at me." I say, and he looks at me. "Trust me. He's not going to hurt you.  Come on. Come on." I say, wrapping my arms around him, and he cries, as we approach my car, and I open the passenger door. "Sh. Get in." I say, and he gets in, and I shut the door, and walk over to Stefan, as he walks over to me. "Is he in danger of becoming." I say, and he interrupts me. "No. No, hr has to die with my blood in his system, so keep an eye on him tonight and make sure that nothing happens, and once it leaves his system, he'll be fine." He says, nodding. "I'm gonna tell him the truth." I say, and he nods. "You sure?" He asks, and I look at Mark, and back to Stefan. "I can trust him. I need someone to know, someone to talk to. I can't live in secret." I say. "I know that. Shouldn't have to." He says, nodding, and I smile. "You saved his life." I say, and he looks down, and back to me. "I'm sorry, Stefan. I thought that.. I couldn't be with you, but then I kissed you, and it turns out I could all along. You don't have to push me away. I can do this." I say, smiling, and touch his hands, and he shakes his head. "I can't. I, uh. I have to leave, Ethan. Too many people have died. Too much has happened." He says. "What? No." I say, shaking my head. "I know you think you're protecting me, but." I say, and he interrupts me. "I have to. Coming home was. It was a mistake." He says, nodding. "I can't be a part of your life anymore." He says, as I look down. "Don't go, Stefan. Please. You don't have to. This is your home." I say, looking up at him. You. Just please don't go. You saved me." I say, crying, and he kisses my left hand, gently, and lets my hand go, and touches the side of my left cheek, and removes his hand. "Goodbye, Ethan." He says, turning around, and walks off. "You're just gonna walk away? Don't walk away, Stefan! Stefan!" I yell, and cover my mouth with my right hand, crying more. I'm in my bedroom, explaining to Mark what happened. "And he.. he left." I say, as we're both crying, and he wraps the blanket around me that he's wearing, and we hug.
