It's nighttime, as I'm at the Hospital, coming out of Alaric's room, and into the hallway, and see Matt. " How's Mr. Saltzman?" He asks, and I look back to the room, and back to him. "Resigned to spending the night in observation, so long as I promise to change the lock on the house." I say, and we begin walking. "So I talked to Mark earlier. He and his Mom are fine. Have you talked to Tony?" I ask. "Yeah. He's holding it together, considering how close he and his Dad used to be. But, now he knows the truth. Any word on who's behind these attacks?" He asks, as I have my arms crossed. "No. Sheriff Forbes said there's no real suspects at all." I say, and we walk outside to the parking lot. "How are you dealing with everything? I mean, you keep getting dragged into all this." I say. "Honestly.. I'm kind of lucky. The only thing that I have to worry about for tomorrow, is showing up for my shift at the Grill, and well, you're Wedding." He says, and I give a small laugh, and stop, looking at him. "Thank you for everything today. Really." I say, nodding my head. "Get home safe. And some beauty sleep." He says, smiling. "Thanks." I say, giving a small smile, and he walks off, and I sigh, walking to my car, and unlock it, and open the door with my right hand, and hear Matt's truck leave, and shut my door, and put my seat belt on, and look in my mirror, smiling, and wave at him with my right hand, looking behind me, and put my hand down, and look forward down, putting my key in the ignition, and start the car, and put the car in reverse, and pull out, and hit something, and stop driving. "What?" I ask, and take my seat belt off, and open the car door with my left hand, and get out, and run to the back of my car, looking down, and see nothing, and look around, and turn around, seeing Rebekah. "Drive much?" She asks. "Rebekah." I say, and she grabs me, and pushes me against my car. "Surprised? You drove a dagger through my back, Ethan. It hurt." She says. "At least I didn't kill Klaus. But your Father instead." I say, and she's about to bite me, as I scream, and gets thrown off, and I see Elijah holding her by the throat with his right hand, and I breathe heavily. "Elijah." She says. "Leave." He says, and takes his hand off her throat, and she steps forward. "Are you challenging me? Are you unaware of what has to happen tomorrow or we all die?" He asks. "You're pathetic." She says, and looks at me. "Both of you." She says. "You're my favorite soon to be sister in law." I say, and she dashes off, and Elijah and I look at each other. "Well.. I believe we have a little catching up to do. Oh, and by the way. If you find a stronger love connection, the marriage won't have to be as intense. Who knew?" He asks, smiling. It's the next morning, my Wedding day, as I'm in my Kitchen with Damon and Stefan, as I'm putting away cleaning supplies. "It was their Mother, Esther, who was sealed in that coffin." I say. "As in the Original Witch?" Stefan asks. "What? How is she even alive? Thought her hybrid freak show of a son ripped her heart out a thousand years ago." Damon says, and I put my hands on the counter. "I don't know. I'm guessing she has a couple connections in the itching community. Elijah said that she wants to live in peace with her family, including Klaus." I say. "She was supposed to be the weapon to help us kill Klaus." Stefan says. "Yeah, well, not anymore. At least, not according to Elijah." I say. "That coffin was the only thing stopping Klaus from tearing us to shreds." Stefan says, walking around. "Anyone else feeling a little used right now?" Damon asks. "Look, Elijah promised me that his and my new family of in laws wouldn't hurt any of us." I say, and the doorbell rings, and we look at the door, and back to each other. "I believe him." I say, and walk over to the door, and open it with my left hand, and see that nobody is there, and look down, and see an envelope that has my name written on it, ornately handwritten. I pick it up with my right hand, and look around, and turn back around, and see Stefan and Damon, and close the door with my left hand. "What is it?" Damon asks, and I open it, and see a card. "It's an invitation. You are cordially invited to the Wedding of Elijah Mikaelson and Ethan Gilbert on this twenty second day of October, this evening at seven o'clock. Which afterwards, there will be an event featuring dancing, cocktails, and celebration. Only Supernatural Creatures or Knowers of the Supernatural may attend." I say, and look up at them. "Who the hell are the Mikaelsons? Wait, did you say, Elijah?" Stefan asks. "Yeah. The Original Family." I say. " It's not bad enough they're moving into town, now they want a housewarming gift along with the Wedding?" Damon asks, and I turn the card over. "Wait. There's a note on the back. "Ethan, I think it's time we finally meet. You're soon to be Mother in law. Esther." I say, and look up at them. We walk into my Living Room. "If Esther wants to talk to me, maybe I should find out why." I say. "Well that's a dumb idea. She already tried to kill you once." He says, and Stefan looks at Damon, and back to me. "No, Ethan's right. Mark was led to open that coffin for a reason." He says, and looks back at Damon. "I think there is more to this than just some Family Reunion and a Wedding." He says. "Can we go back in time where the old Stefan cared if Ethan lived or died?" Damon asks, and looks at me, and back to him, and I look down. "What for? That's your job now." Stefan says, and I look up at Damon. "Stefan has a point, Damon." I say, approaching him. "I should find out what she wants." I say. "You can't protect yourself." He says. "Ok, fine. Then I'll go." Stefan says, and Damon looks at him. "You've pissed off enough Originals to last a lifetime." He says, and looks back to me. "I'll go." He says, and snatches the invitation from my hands. "Hey!" I exclaim. "End of story. You can get married some other time today." He says, and walks off, and Stefan and I look at each other. I'm at the Grill, sitting with Tony. "It's all so weird. The Originals are throwing a Ball, like an actual ball, after the Wedding." I say, and look behind me, and back to him. "It's some twisted Cinderella fetish is what it is. And why does the Evil Witch want an audience with you?" He asks, and I shake my head. "I have no idea. There's only one way to find out." I say, smiling. "I thought you told Damon and Stefan that you weren't going." He says, smiling. "I did, that I would call Elijah and have us married at a later time before midnight and just have the Ball instead. Which is all the more reason why I need a drama free bodyguard." I say. "Well, I think a Salvatore would look a lot better in a tux." He says, smilimg. "And by that, I mean Stefan." He says, and I groan, and shake my head. "I can't deal with either of the Salvatores right now. Whatever Stefan's feeling, he is channeling it all against Klaus. And Damon.." I say, and sigh. "It's just not a good idea." I say, and look down. "Why? Because you two made out?" He asks, and I look up at him. "Mark spilled the beans." He says. "I was gonna tell you." I say, and shake my head, sighing. "Just, after everything happened with your Dad. Before the whole almost me dying thing." I say. "Ethan, when you and Matt kissed for the first time Freshman year, you called me the second it happened. And I don't hear about this until now? From somebody else?" He asks, and I shake my head. "I'm sorry. It's just I. I don't even know how I feel about it yet. All I do know is that.. it just used to be so much easier." I say, and hear footsteps, and see Rebekah. "Careful, Tony. It's all well and good until he stabs you in the back." She says, and looks at me. "What are you doing here? I know your Mom's rules. No hurting the locals." I say. "Get over yourself, Ethan. It's not all about you." She says, and turns around, walking off, and I look at Tony, and I look at her, handing Matt an invitation. "Oh, my God. She's inviting him to the Ball. Why is she inviting him?" He asks. "Probably to get this reaction from us." I say, and he scoffs. "What time is this stupid dance? And non stupid Wedding?" He asks, as I look at him. "Seven o'clock. I have to get home and get some sleep and then get changed." I say, and get up. "Have fun." He says, smiling. I'm at home, getting changed, and pick up my Dad's ring that's blue, and put it on my right middle finger. "Old, New, Borrowed, and Blue." I say, and put on my golden tie. I'm now in all black, my jacket, pants, shoes, socks, underwear, and formal long sleeve, with the golden tie, and look in the mirror, and sigh, and put a white handkerchief in my left pocket with my right hand. I arrive to Klaus' Mansion, and the double doors open, and I walk in, and adjust my golden watch on my right hand, and, and turn to my left, and see Stefan, and sigh. "What are you doing here?" I ask. "I could ask you the same thing. I mean, it is you're Wedding." He says, smiling. "That's what I'm here for." I say. "Surprise, surprise." Damon says from behind me, as I look at him. "Nice tux." He says to Stefan, and looks at me. "You're not supposed to be here." He says, and I smile. "Well, I am, and I'm not leaving until I find out what Esther wants, so shall we?" I ask, and look at Stefan, and he offers his right arm, and I take it with my left, and we look at Damon, and he offers his left, and I take it with my right, and we begin walking. I'm at the drink bar, looking to my right. "Ethan Gilbert, I presume. The guest of honor." A man says, as I look at him, and he offers me a glass of Champagne with his right hand, as he's holding one in his left, and I look at the glass in his right. "I'm Finn Mikaelson." He says, and I look up at him. "You're here to see my Mother." He says, as I take the glass with my right hand, and I look to my left, and back to him. "Is she here?" I ask. "Her request did not include your friends." He says. "They're protecting me. You may not know, but your Mother's already tried to kill me once." I say. "If you want to see my Mother, you'll need to be alone." He says, and Elijah makes an announcement, as I look to my left. "Uh, if everyone could gather, please." He says, and back to Finn. "Excuse me." He says, and walks off. "Welcome, thank you for joining us. You know, whenever my Mother brings our family together like this, it's tradition for us to commence the evening with a dance. Tonight's pick is a centuries old Waltz, so if all of you could please find yourselves a partner, please join us in the ballroom. But before that. We have a Wedding to attend to." Elijah says, and I look up, seeing Esther retreat to the stairs, and I begin to walk, and Damon blocks my path. "Don't even think about it." He says. "She wants to see me alone, Damon." I say, moving to my left, and he blocks me again. "Well, sucks to be her, then. Was I not clear this morning?" He asks. "I was invited. I'm getting married, remember?" I ask. "You have to tell me before you walk into a lion's den." He whispers, looking behind him, and back to me. "Why? So that you can stop me?" I ask. "Yes." He says, looking to his left, and back to me. "Ethan Gilbert, would you please join me at the arch?" Elijah asks, as I look at him, and back to Damon, and he offers his left arm, and I take it with my right, and we begin walking to the arch, and I stop, and begin coughing, and everyone looks at me. "What the hell is going on?" He asks, and I cough up dirt, gagging. "Oh, my God. Nature's fighting." Damon says. "We have to get to the arch." I say, and we continue walking, and the ground shakes, and I almost fall, but Damon catches my arm, and we continue walking, and there's a huge gust of wind, making the lights flicker and shake. "The elements are consuming him! You need to move quickly!" Elijah exclaims, and Damon and I run to the arch, and Elijah takes both of my hands, as I cough up water. "Begin the Ceremony." He says to the priest. "We are gathered here today to witness the marriage of Elijah Mikaelson and Ethan Gilbert. If anyone should object these two be wed, leave now." He says, and lightning strikes from outside, as we can all hear a huge thunderstorm. "I, Elijah Mikaelson, take you, Ethan Gilbert, to be, my lawful husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do us part. Or even in death." He says, and a giant fire begins, and I see it consume Damon and Stefan. "Oh, my God." I say. "Breathe!" Elijah exclaims. "I, Ethan Gilbert, take you, Elijah Mikaelson, to be my lawful husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do us part. Or even in death." I say, and he puts a solid onyx ring on my left middle finger, and I put a silver one on his, and he bites his right wrist, and bites mine, and we drink each other's blood to complete the ritual. "I do." Elijah says. "I do." I say, and he kisses me, as I'm about to fall, and I scream, falling to the ground, and a white blast covers the entire building, and I fall, unconscious. I wake up, slowly, and see Stefan and Damon are alive again,  and Elijah takes my right hand with his left, and helps me up. "Talk about a Wedding." I say, and he gives a small laugh, and Damon approaches me. "May I, Elijah?" Damon asks, and Elijah nods, and walks off, and Damon offers his right hand, as I look at it. "It would be rude not to dance, you know." He says, and I look back up to him, and he smiles, and take it with my right. "It is tradition." I say, and he puts my hand in his left arm, and we walk off. Damon's holding my right hand with his right, and my left with his left underneath, and we step forward. "You look stunning, if it isn't obvious." He says, as we step forward again, and I look at him, and we turn forward. "Thank you." I say, and we step forward twice, and turn to the right, and he spins my right hand, and I put my left hand on his right shoulder, and hold my right hand with his left, and we spin around. "Guess you're officially a Mikaelson now. No more Gilbert." He says. "Nope." I say, and we smile at each other. "You rose the dead with me and Stefan. That was a kick ass thing you did." He says, smirking. "After I unleashed a fire that consumed you both." I say, and he laughs, and we hold both hands, and go out, and he spins my right hand, and I come face to face with Elijah, as he smiles. "Hello." He says. "Hi." I say. "Enjoying the party?" He asks, spinning my right hand. "Yes. And you?" I ask. "I'm having a wonderful time." He says. "I'm glad." I say. "You've survived your own personal hell, making you the strongest person I've ever met in all my thousand years. But, it also makes you the most dangerous human in existence because you have no fear." He says. "Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear." I say, and he smiles, and kisses my left hand, and spins my right hand, and I land in Stefan's arms, and we begin dancing. "Hm. He dances, and I didn't even have to beg." I say. "Well Mayor Lockwood dragged me out here. Couldn't exactly say no. And it is you're Wedding day, so consider this my gift." He says, and our faces are inches apart, and we smile at each other, and he kisses my left cheek. "Took you about thirty seconds to put Damon in a mood." He says. "He's just looking out for me." I say, and he nods. "I think he needs to figure out that you can look out for yourself. You're fear is gone." He says, and our faces get closer, and I whisper in his ear. "I need to talk to you." I say. "Ok, so talk." He says. "Not here." I say, and look to my right, as we stop dancing, and look forward, and we walk off. We're outside on the lawn, and I stop walking, and face him. " If Esther's secretly on our side, we need to know. But I can't get to her with two bodyguards." I say. "Why are you telling me this?" He asks. "Because Damon won't let me anywhere near her without protection. And you care about killing Klaus more than you care about anything, so.." I say, and he nods, giving a small smile, and looks down. "What? Am I wrong?" I ask, and he looks up at me. "No, you're not wrong. What do you need me to do?" He asks. "Make sure that I can get into that room with Esther. Alone." I say. "You sure you can do this?" He asks, and I breathe heavily, and nod. "I can do this." I say, and he nods, and I walk past him, and stop, facing him. "When we were together, you used to let me make my own decisions. You trusted me. After all this, at least that hasn't changed." I say, as he looks at me, and I look down, and back to him, and forward, and walk off. I'm in the Library, by the window alone, after texting Damon, and hear footsteps, and turn around, seeing him. "I got your text. What are we doing in here?" He asks, and I hear a creak, and Stefan dashes to him, and breaks his back, and Damon falls, unconscious, as Stefan sets him down. "Well, better hurry up. He won't be down for long." He says, and I nod, and begin to walk off, and turn around, and Stefan and I look at each other, and I take my jacket off, and roll my sleeves up, and turn around, and walk off. I'm walking down the hallway. "Ethan." Elijah says, approaching me, as I stop, and look at him. "I understand my Mother requested to see you." He says, and we begin walking. "Uh, yeah. Why? Is something wrong?" I ask. "Well, her ability to forgive my brother after everything he's done to destroy this family strikes me as a little strange to say the least." He says. "Do you think that it's an act?" I ask, and he steps in front of me, and I stop. "It has me asking questions I never thought I'd ask. Can I depend on you to tell me what she says? I am your Husband, after all." He says, and I nod. "Of course." I say, nodding. "I'll find you later, ok?" I ask, and he pecks my lips, and I walk off. I arrive to the room Esther's in, and knock on the door with my right hand, and the door opens, as I'm looking to my right, and see Finn at the door. "Please." He says, and I walk in. "You're alone. Wise choice." He says, and I look at her, and she's holding burning sage in her left hand. "It's only sage. I've spelled it so we can speak freely without fear of being overheard." She says, and looks at Finn. "That'll be all Finn, thank you." She says, and I look at Finn, and he walks backwards, shutting both doors at the same time. "You must have a billion questions for me, Ethan. Please." She says, gesturing her right left hand, as the sage is now in her right, to the couch, and I walk over to it, and we sit down, and I notice white candles burning. "How are you alive? Are you a ghost? Or." I say. "Not exactly. When I died, the witch Ayana preserved my body with a spell. She was a close friend of mine, an ancestor of your friend Mark." She says. "So that's why only Mark and his Mother could open up the casket." I say. "They complete the Bennett bloodline. I drew power from them and their ancestors who were with me on the Other Side." She says. "So you've been on the Other Side for a thousand years?" I ask. "Nature's way of punishing me for turning my family into Vampires. But there is a way for me to undo the evil I created." She says. "You're gonna help us kill Klaus, aren't you?" I ask. "One thing at a time, Ethan. For now, I simply need your help. It's nice to meet my son in law." She says. Esther is lighting a candles. "I understand Rebekah shared the story of my family.." She says, and blows the long match out. "How I upset the balance of nature by turning my children into Vampires." She says. "She said you did it to protect them from the Werewolves. That you lost Henrik due to it." I say. "May he rest in peace. It's true." She says, and pours a liquid with her right hand into a chalice. "But in no time at all, they began to feed on human blood. They ravaged the town with no remorse. Eventually, Niklaus turned against me." She says, and I sigh, walking towards her. "How are you gonna kill him? He's immortal." I say. "It will take time, magic, and your assistance." She says. "What do I have to do with it?" I ask. "My children believe I'm holding this ball to celebrate our reunion. But in truth, I've gathered them together to perform a ritual. The first step requires blood from the Doppelganger. Only a drop. Its essence will be in the champagne toast later on this evening." She says, and picks up a long thin knife. "Will you do it? Or shall I?" She asks, and I walk closer to her, and hold out my right hand, and she takes my wrist, and pokes my index finger, and it bleeds, and she squeezes my finger, and my blood drips into the chalice, and she lets my hand go, and picks up the chalice with his right hand. "Elijah is more suspicious than the others, so he may need more persuasion, so it falls to you, considering your his Husband. But they must all drink at the toast in order to be linked as one." She says, and looks at me. "What do you mean, linked as one?" I ask. "You said yourself Klaus can't be killed, but tonight's spell links all my children together, so that if one goes, they all go." She says. "What?" I ask. "I love my family, Ethan, but they are an abomination. I betrayed Nature when I created them. It's my duty to kill them." She says. I'm in the Foyer, standing alone, looking around. "So how was my Mother?" Elijah asks, as I look at him. "Intense." I say. "And for what reason did she need to speak with you in private?" He asks, and offers me a glass of Champagne in his right hand, as he's holding another in his left, and I take it with my right, looking at Esther on the staircase, and she smiles at me. "Ethan." He says, and I look at him. "Should I be concerned about my Mother's intentions?" He asks. "Not for your sake. She just wanted to apologize for trying to have me killed." I say. "So it's true, then? She's forgiven Klaus?" He asks. "She has forgiven Klaus." I say, and hear a crystal ring, and he looks to his right at Esther, and I poke my finger with a piece of metal, and add a drop in Elijah's glass, neutralizing the spell for him, but not the others, looking at Esther. "Good Evening, Ladies and Gentleman. Waiters are coming around with Champagne. I invite you all to join me in raising a glass. It provides me with no greater joy then to see my family back together as one. I'd like to thank you all for being part of this spectacular evening. Cheers!" She exclaims, raising her glass in her right hand, and everyone says cheers, except for me and Elijah. "Cheers." He says, as we look at each other, and he smiles at me, and we cling glasses, and I sip mine, and so does he. I'm walking in the Foyer. "Ethan." Damon says, amd I stop and look at him, as he approaches me. "Did you get what you want?" He asks. "Actually, yes." I say, nodding. "Good, tell me on the ride home. We're leaving. Come on." He says, and grabs my right arm. "No, Damon let go of me." I say, and he lets my arm go. "Look, I'm sorry that I had to cut you out of the plan." I say. "There shouldn't have been a plan. You shouldn't be here." He says. "It's my Wedding day. Do you think I like going behind your back? I don't. But if I hadn't asked Stefan to help, then you would've tried to be the hero, and it would've ruined everything." I say. "Sorry for trying to keep you alive. Clearly Stefan doesn't give a crap anymore." He says. "Now you're mad at me for including Stefan?" I ask. "No, I'm mad at you because I love you!" He exclaims. "I know, Damon. I know." I say, touching his left cheek. "I care too much, don't I? I'm a liability. How Ironic is that?" He asks, and I sigh, and kiss his left cheek, after putting my hand down. "Have you guys seen Matt?" Tony asks, as we look at him, and I look down. The four Mikaelson siblings and I, minus Kol, run out the door after hearing a noise, and see Stefan and Damon, as Damon is in front of Stefan, and I see Kol unconscious on the floor. "Maybe a little." He says, and looks at me. "Far be it from me to cause a problem." He says, and turns around, and walks off. Stefan and I arrive home to my house, and I take my jacket off. "So uh, Esther wants to kill her whole family." He says, and laughs. "How is that for Mother of the Year?" He asks. "Yeah. And I got to look my husband right in the eye and lie to him about it." I say, sighing. "Well, good. I can't say I'll be sorry to see any of them go." He says. "I just signed their death sentences, Stefan." I say. "No, you signed Klaus' death sentence, Ethan. Everyone else is just collateral damage. You'll be the only Mikaelson left." He says, and I look at him. "It's not that simple." I say. "Their family has brought you nothing but darkness, Ethan." He says, nodding. "It is that simple. So, uh.. where's Damon?" He asks, looking down, and back up to me. "I would think that he'd wanna make sure you got home safely." He says. "That family has also brought me love. I'll call him and let him know." I say, and he nods. "What was with him going after Kol?" He asks. "Damon being self destructive." I say, and he nods, smiling. "Anyways, uh.. goodnight, Mr. Mikaelson." He says, and opens the door with his left hand, and shuts the door, and I run to it, catching it with my right hand. "Stefan." I say, opening it, as he turns around, looking at me. "Did you really not feel anything?" I ask. "When?" He asks. "How do you do that? Act like you don't care, like you don't feel anything? Because I can't do that." I say, shaking my head. "I.. I feel. I feel everything." I say, walking over to him. "Ethan, stop." He says. "I'm not going to stop, Stefan, because I don't believe that you feel nothing." I say, and he gets closer to me. "What? You think I want to be this person? I hurt you, Ethan. I bit you. I hate myself for what I did to you." He says. "Then show it. Do something." I say, and put both hands on the sides of his face, and he tries to look to his right, and I make him look forward. "Stefan, anything is better than trying to convince me that you don't care." I say. "I can't." He says. "Stefan." I say, and he grabs my wrists, pulling my hands down. "If I let myself care, all I feel is pain." He says, and puts my hands down, and turns around, and walks off, and a few tears drop from my eyes.
