I'm still stuck in my car, as I'm trying to get out, but the door won't open, and the figure looks down at me, and I see it's a man, and I scream, and he runs off, and I gasp, and Damon appears in front of me, looking at me, as I scream, turning away. "How ya doing in there?" He asks, and I look at him. "Damon?" I ask. "You look stuck." He says and stands up. "It's my seat belt. I can't take it off." I say, crying, as I hear a piece of my car rip off, and he looks back at me, shushing me. "Let me get you out of here. I want you to put your hands on the roof." He says, and I put my hands on the roof. "Just like that. You ready?" He asks, and I nod. "One, two, three." He says, and pulls another car part, and catches me. "I got you. Are you okay?" He asks, carrying me away from the car. "Can you stand? Anything broken?" He asks, and I shake my head, and he sets me down, holding me, as I'm dizzy. "Whoa. You're fading fast, Ethan. Ethan, look at me." He says, catching me, as I almost fall with my eyes closed, and open my eyes, and he touches my chin. "Focus. Look at me." He says, and I look up at him. "Ok." He says. "I look like him." I say. "What?" He asks, and I pass out. I slowly wake up, and feeling I'm in a moving car, and see that the sun is up, as I'm looking out my window, and look around, and see Damon, smiling at me. "Morning." He says, and I look forward, holding my head. "Where are we?" I ask. "Georgia." He says. "Georgia? No, no. No, we're not. Seriously, Damon. Where are we? Oh, my God. Given the land mass and tree sightings, we're in Georgia." I say, looking at the trees. "Yep, seriously. We're in Georgia, Smartass." He says, and I sigh. "How ya feeling?" He asks, and I look forward. "I. I." I say, and he interrupts me. "There's no broken bones. I checked. I also got you a bagel and a Caramel Frappe so you don't of starvation on me." He says, handing me a bag and the coffee. "Uh.. thanks. My Jeep. There was a man. I hit a man. Well, a vampire." I say, taking a sip of my drink, and look at him. "But then he got up and. Who was that?" I ask, as he looks at the road. "That's what I would like to know." He says, as I open the bag, and pull out the egg and cheese bagel, and take a small bite, and look for my phone. "Where is my phone?" I ask, looking down. "Ok. We really need to go back. Nobody knows where I am." I say, and look at him. "Pull over." I say, and he looks at me. "I mean it, Damon. Pull over!" I exclaim, and he looks back at the road. "Stop the car!" I exclaim. "Oh, you were so much more fun when you were asleep. Is that Stefan's shirt?" He asks, pulling over, and I cross my arms, and he stops the car, and I uncross my arms, open my door, and does he, and I walk out, slowly, as he gets out, and I look down, dizzy, and he catches me. "Hey." He says, as I look at him. "I'm fine." I say, walking away from him. "We have to go back." I say, and hear him walk over to me, as I look at him. "Oh come on. Look. We've already come this far." He says, smiling. "Why are you doing this? I can't be in Georgia. I wrecked my Jeep. I have to go home. This is Kidnapping." I say. "That's a little melodramatic, don't you think?" He asks, smiling. "You're not funny." I say, and he faces forward, crossing his arms, looking at me. "I'm not going to Georgia, even if I am already in it." I say. "Well, you are. Without your magical necklace, I might add." He says, and I touch my chest. "I could very easily make you.. agreeable." He says, and I turn around. "What are you trying to prove?" I ask, and hear my phone ring, and he looks around. "That's my phone." He says, and takes it out of his pocket, and looks at it. "Mm. It's your boyfriend." He says, and I look forward. "I'll take it." He says, and answers it. "Ethan's phone. Ethan?" He asks, and I look at him. "He's right here. And, yes, he's fine. I got him some breakfast, although he's barely ate yet." He says, and I look down. "He wants to talk to you." He says, holding out my phone, and I look at it, and shake my head. "No." I say, and turn to the right, and look forward, looking down. "Yeah. I don't. I don't think he wants to talk to you right now." He says, and I rub my forehead, and put my hand down. "You have a good day. Mhm. Bye now." He says, and hangs up, and I face him. "Look. No one knows where I am. Can we please just go back?" I ask. "We're almost there." He says. "Where is there?!" I exclaim. "A little place right outside of Atlanta. Oh, come on, Ethan." He says, getting closer. "You don't want to go back right now. Do you?" He asks, and I sigh. "What's the rush? Time out." He says, putting one hand across the other, and puts his hand down. "Trust me. Your problems are still going to be there when you get home." He says, putting his hands down, as I look down. "Look. Step away from your life for five minutes." He says, and I look back up at him. "Five minutes." He says, smiling, and I turn around, sighing, and turn back to him. "Am I going to be safe with you?" I ask. "Yes." He says, and I cross my arms. "Will you promise not to do that Mind Compulsion with me?" I ask. "Yes." He says. "Can I trust you?" I ask. "Get in the car. Come on." He says, walking over to the car, and opens the door. We're back on the road, as I'm eating my bagel, and sip my drink, and swallow. "So, where's my Jeep?" I ask. "I pulled it off to the side of the road." He says, and looks at me. "I don't think anyone will bother it." He says, and looks back at the road. "What about that man in the road. He must of been a vampire." I say. "From what I could tell. Yeah." He says. "You didn't know him?" I ask. "If I've never met him, I wouldn't know him." He says, and I take another bite. "I mean, it's not like we all hang out together at the Vamp Bar and Grill." He says, looking at me, and I swallow, and he makes a quick swerve, and we stop. "Where are we? You brought me to a bar?" I ask, as I turn around, looking at the sign that says Bree's Bar, and look at him, and we open our car doors, and get out of the car, and shut them. "Damon, I'm not old enough. They're not gonna let me in." I say, shaking my head. "Sure they will." He says, smiling, and walks off, and I sigh, and follow him, and we walk into the bar, and see a dark skinned woman, smiling at him. "No. No, it can't be. Damon." She says, and I look at him, and see her hop over the table, and she walks over to him, and he smiles. "My Honey Pie." She says, and kisses him, and they make out. We're at the bar, as she's raising a bottle of Bourbon. "Listen up, everybody! Here's to the man that broke my heart, crushed my soul, destroyed my life, and ruined any and all chances of my happiness!" She exclaims, pouring drinks, and walks over to us, holding shot glasses, and sets them down. "Drink up!" She yells, as I look at mine, and Damon takes mine, as I look at him, and he downs it, and sets it back down. "Ahh. Whoo!" She exclaims, as I smile at him. "So, how'd he rope you in?" She asks, as I look at her, and she pours another shot, as I hold my hands up. "I'm not roped in. Actually, I'm dating his." I say, and she interrupts me. "Darling, if you're not roped, you're whipped." She says, smiling. "Either way, just enjoy the ride." She says, and I look down. "Ok." I say, and look back up at her. "So, how did you two meet?" I ask, and she laughs. "College." She says, and I smile at him. "You went to College?" I ask. "I've been on a College Campus, yes." He says, and downs his shot, and I look back at her. "About twenty years ago, when I was a sweet, young Freshman." She says, and looks at him. "I met this beautiful man, and I fell in love." She says, and I smile, and look at him. "And then he told me about his little secret, made me love him even more." She says, and I look back at her. "Because, you see, I had a little secret of my own that I was dying to share with somebody." I say. "She's a witch." He says, and I look at him, and back to her, as she's looking at him. "Changed my world, you know." He says. "I rocked your world." He says, and she laughs. "He is good in the sack, isn't he?" She asks, and I look at him, and look forward. "But mostly he's just a Walkaway Joe." She says, and I look at her, and she downs her shot, and I look at him. "So, what is it that you want?" She asks him. I'm outside, talking with Jenna on my phone. "Hi, Jenna. I'm so sorry." I say. "Where are you? Why didn't you call?" She asks. "I was so tired last night. I fell asleep at Mark's. And then this morning, I just wanted to get to school." I say. "Are you okay?" She asks. "You know, Stefan and stuff." I say. I'm looking around, and my phone rings, and I see it's Stefan, and sigh, and answer it. "Ethan, is that you?" He asks. "I'm here." I say. "Where are you?" He asks. "You lied. I'm hanging up." I say. "Not until I explain, please." He says. "So, you didn't lie? Well, you didn't tell me, but it still doesn't make it okay." I say. "Just tell me where you are. So that I can come get you." He says. "How am I connected to Alex, Stefan?" I ask. "I honestly don't know." He says, and I give a fake laugh. "And I'm supposed to believe that?" I ask. "It's the truth. I." He says, as I shake my head. "Listen." He says, and I hang up, and turn around, and see Damon. "You okay?" He asks. "Don't pretend to care. I know you're gloating inside." I say. "Well, at least I pulled you out of a Jeep and got you breakfast so you wouldn't die of, oh, I don't know. Starvation?" He asks, and I roll my eyes, and he imitates me. We're in the bar, eating burgers and fries, and I dip my fry in ketchup, as he has a beer next to him. "Let's just say that I'm descended from Alex. Does that make me part vampire?" I ask, biting my fry, and swallow. "Vampires can't procreate. But we love to try." He says, smiling, and I eat the rest of my fry, and swallow. "No. If you were related, it would mean Alex had a child before he was turned. Which is impossible because A, male and B, well, A." He says, as I'm looking down, and look back up to him. "Did Stefan think he could use me to replace him?" I ask, picking up another fry, and eat it. "Kinda creepy if you ask me." He says, and I look down, and take the bacon off my burger. "Come on, what? You don't like Bacon? What's wrong with you?" He asks, taking my bacon, and I look at him. "How can you even eat? If technically you're supposed to be." I say, and he looks at me. "Dead." He whispers, and I look down. "It's not such a bad word. As long as I keep a healthy diet of blood in my system, my body functions pretty normally." He says, as I look at him, and he eats a fry, and I laugh. "This Nice Act. Is any of it real?" I ask, as he looks at his burger, and back to me. "Mhm." He says, and looks back at his burger. "Here you go, Honey." Bree says, sitting another beer down, and takes his empty one. "Thank you." He says, and I look at her, and back to Damon's beer. "I'll have one, too." I say, looking at her. "Hm?" He asks, and I look at him, and I put my right on my left hand. "Time out, remember?" I ask, putting my hands down. "For five minutes?" I ask, and look up at her, as she's grabbing a beer, and I have my arms crossed. "Yeah, well that five minutes is going to need a beer. My first consumption of alcohol." I say, and she turns around, setting it down. "There you go." She says, smiling, and I smile back, and see Damon's beer in front of me, and we cling them, and I look at him, and sip it, and swallow it, coughing. "Wow." He says, smiling. "Not bad for a first timer." He says. It's later at night, as we're taking shots, and I'm drunk. "Ready.. go!" Bree exclaims, and we all down our shots, and I clap, laughing. "That's five." I say, and he coughs, and I look at him. "Do you need a bib?" I ask, making a pouty face. "Sorry I can't unhinge my jaw like a snake to consume alcohol." He says, smiling, and I laugh. "Whatever. All right. Who's next? Another round, Bree?" I ask, smiling. "Darling, you be on the floor." A drunk blonde woman says to me. "I am not even drunk. My tolerance is, like, way up here." I say, looking forward, and raise my left hand above my head, jumping, and feel it in extreme pain, and I start crying, and put it down, and sit down. "Hey, you're okay." Damon says, putting an arm over my shoulders. "All right. Here you go." She says, and walks off, as we down more shots. I'm playing Pool with the blonde lady, and hit the eight ball in, winning the game, and cheer, dancing around. "Yeah!" I exclaim, and hear my phone ring, and walk over to it, and pick it up. "Hello?" I ask. "Ethan." Jenna says. "Jenna? Hold on, it's loud in here." I say, grabbing my jacket, and walk off. "Ethan, where are you? Are you okay?" She asks, as I put my jacket on with my right hand. "Huh? Yeah. No, I'm good. Everything's fine. Hold on. I can't hear you." I say, and walk out the door, and trip, and drop my phone, and grab onto the railing, and pick up my phone. "Hello?" I ask, and someone covers my mouth, and I drop my phone, groaning. I'm on top of a mechanism, and see Damon, as I'm sober. "Damon, no." I say, and the person that attacked me from earlier, a guy, hits Damon with a bat, and Damon falls, and I begin to climb down, and the guy constantly beats Damon, and I run over to him, as he's pouring gasoline on Danon. "No!" I yell, and the guy looks at me with red eyes, veins, and fangs. "Who are you?" Damon asks, sitting up some. "That's perfect. You have no idea." The guy says. "What are you talking about? What did he do?" I ask, and the guy looks at me. "He killed my girlfriend." He says, and turns around, and pours more gasoline on Damon. "What did she do to you, huh? What did she do to you?!" He yells, and throws the gasoline tank. "Nothing." Damon says, and the guy walks over to him. "I don't understand." I say. "My girlfriend went to visit Stefan, and Damon killed her. Got it?" He asks, looking at me, and back to Damon, hitting him, and Damon falls backwards. "Lexi? Lexi was your girlfriend? She told me about you. She said you were human." I say, and he looks at me, as I shake my head, and he nods. "I was." He says, and turns back to Damon, and pulls out a matchbox, and I gasp. "Lexi turned you?" I ask, and he looks at me. "If you want to be with someone forever, you have to live forever." He says, and Damon groans, beginning to sit up, and he turns back to Damon, kicking him. "She loved you. She said, when it's real, you can't walk away." I say, shaking my head, and he looks at me. "Well, that's a choice you're not going to have to make." He says, and turns back to Damon. "Don't. Don't, please, don't hurt him." I say, and he lights a match. "I'm doing you a favor." He says. "Lexi loves you. And she was good. That means your good, too." I say, and he looks at me. "Be better than him. Don't do this. I'm begging you!" I exclaim, crying. "Please." I say, and he looks back at Damon, and lifts him up, and throws him at the building that's twenty feet away, and looks back at me, with teared eyes. "Thank you." I say. "It wasn't for you." He says, and I see him dash off, and look back at Damon, and run over to him, and help him up. It's the next day, as we're on the road. "So, why did you bring me with you?" I ask, looking at him. "Well, you're not the worst company in the World, Ethan. You should give yourself more credit." He says, and I smile. "Seriously?" I ask, as he looks back to the road. "You were there in the road. All damsel in distress like. And I knew it would piss off Stefan. And.." He says, as I shake my head, smiling more. "You're not the worst company in the World, Ethan." He says, looking at me, smiling, and I look forward. "I used to be more fun." I say. "You did ok." He says, and I look at him, as he's looking at the road. "I saved your life." I say, and he smiles at me. "I know." He says. "And don't you forget it." I say, and look out my window, smiling. I arrive back to Stefan's room, as he's sitting down, looking at me. "Hi." I say, as he stands up. "Hey." He says. "You could of told me." I say. "I wanted to tell you." He says. "You said no more lies. Only the truth. I can handle the truth, Stefan." I say, walking forward to him. "As crazy as it is, I can handle the fact that you are a vampire. And you have a vampire brother. And that my best friend is a Warlock. I can accept the fact that the Works is a much more mysterious place than I ever thought possible. But this. This lie, I cannot take." I say, as he walks around me, as I walk around him, and we stop. "What am I to you? Who am I to you?" I ask. "You are not Alex." He says, shaking his head. "You are the opposite of everything that he was." He says. "And when did you figure that out? Before you kissed me? Before we slept together?" I ask, as he's looking down, and looks back up to me. "Before I met you." He says. "What?" I ask. "The first day of school. When we met. It wasn't for the first time, Ethan." He says, and I look confused. "Then when was it?" I ask. "May twenty third, two thousand and nine." He says. "But that was." I say. "That was the day your parents' car went off the bridge." He says, and I breathe heavily. "You were there?" I ask. "Every couple of years that I come back here to see Zach and see my home. Last spring, I was out in the woods, by old Wickery Bridge. And I heard the accident. All of it. I was fast getting there, but not fast enough. The car was already submerged." He says, as my tears fall. "Your Dad. He was still concious. I was able to get to him, but he wouldn't let me help him until I helped you." He says, as I'm crying. "Oh, my God." I say, and cover my mouth with my right hand, shaking my head, and put my hand down. "When I woke up in the Hospital, nobody could figure out how I got out of the car. They said it was a miracle." I say. "I went back for them. But it was too late. I couldn't. I couldn't save them. When I pulled you out, I looked at your face." He says, as I'm looking down, and back up to him. "You looked like Alex. I couldn't believe the resemblance. After that, I spent months making sure that you weren't him. I watched you. I learned everything that I could about you." He says, shaking his head. "And I saw that you were nothing like Alex. And I wanted to leave town, but, Ethan, I couldn't. I couldn't leave without knowing you. I'm so sorry that I didn't tell you. I wanted to. But you were so sad." He says, shaking his head. "Why do I look like him?" I ask. "Ethan, you've been through so much." He says, shaking his head, and I put my right hand out. "Why do I look like him, Stefan? What are you not telling me?" I ask. "It didn't make sense to me. You were a Gilbert. He was a Petite. But the resemblance was too similar." He says, shaking his head. "And then I learned the truth. You were adopted, Ethan." He says, and I gasp. We're sitting down next to each other on the couch in his room, as I have my right hand close to my mouth. "How do you know this?" I ask. "Your Birth Certificate from the City Records. It says, Ethan Gilbert. Mystic Falls General. But there's no record of your Mother ever being admitted. There's no record of her ever being pregnant." He says, and I lower my hand, looking at him. "What else do you know?" I ask. "For me to go any further, I would've had to look into the Petite Family, and I couldn't do that. It's too much of a risk." He says, shaking his head. "If someone found out I was asking about Alex. Listen to me, it doesn't matter. You are the guy that I love. I love you." He says, and I nod, kissing him, and he touches the side of my face, and I hold his waist, and lean my head into his chest, and he wraps his arms around my neck and shoulders, hugging me. I soon arrive home, and open the door, and shut it. "I don't set a lot of rules, Ethan. Not with you. I trust you to tell me the truth." Jenna says, as I see her on the couch, looking at me, and gets up, walking over to me, as I head to the stairs. "Where were you? Why did you lie to me about it? I thought that we were closer than that." She says. "Now is not the time you want to talk to me about lies." I say, beginning to walk up the stairs. "Don't do that. Don't turn this back on me. I didn't do anything." She says, as I look at her. "Ok, question. Am I adopted?" I ask, and she gasps. "I trust you to tell me the truth too, Jenna. How could you not tell me? I thought we were closer than that." I say, walking up the stairs. "Ethan, I didn't. They asked me not to." She says. "I don't want to hear it." I say.
