Five Years Old ❣︎ January

"Jughead? I'm sc-scared."

Archie's soft whimpers can be heard through Jughead's house phone, making the raven haired boy's tired eyes become alert. He stumbles out of bed and quickly goes to pick up the phone.

"What's wrong?" The darker hue asks worriedly, unsure of what's going on.

"They're f-fighting again." Archie hiccups, making the darker hue pay closer attention. He can hear the sound of horrid yelling in the background, along with the scarlet hue's soft cries and the sound of footsteps traveling all around the house.

Jughead has absolutely no idea what to do. He just wants Archie to be happy, so he makes a rash decision instead of a smart one.

"Just stay calm, I'll be there In five minutes, tops." The raven haired boy whispers quietly into the phone, internally grimacing at this horrible idea.

"Promise?" The scarlet hue whimpers.

"I promise Archie." The darker hue whispers back.

Within a few minutes, Jughead had his shoes slipped on and his coat zipped up. He easily slides out of the door of his small blue house, and begins the two block journey to his best friends house.

Jughead couldn't help but to feel sympathetic. Archie was perfect in his eyes, and Jughead decided that the scarlet hue didn't deserve to feel the way he did when his parents decided to go at it. It was happening more and more lately, but never as serious as this.

The darker hue stepped quickly through the gelid winter air, trying not to focus on his tiny little fear of the dark. After all, it was almost midnight, and he's never been outside in total blackness before. He continued to take deep breaths, reminding himself that he was doing this for Archie.

He made a promise.

After what seemed like hours, but was really only five minutes, the raven haired boy finally arrived at the scarlet hue's home. Jughead manages to quietly open up the gate leading to the side of the house, and carefully slips through the crack.

The dark hue can't help but to shiver as he picks up a small rock and hauls it at the distressed boy's window with all his might.

Archie immediately peeks his head out of the window, smiling when he sees his knight in shinning armor.

"Are you going to come down?" The raven haired boy yells in a whisper, biting his lip at how high up his friend is.

Archie however, doesn't seem to pay close attention to this circumstance and begins inching his small body out of the window, grabbing onto the steel pole attached to the side of the house.

"You'll catch me if I fall?" The red head calls out, beginning to get a bit nervous now that he's actually outside.

"Of course Archie, I got you." Jughead reassures, holding his small stubby arms out in anticipation. The darker hue honestly believed he could save the scarlet hue from getting hurt in any situation, and it became his ultimate goal to make sure Archie was safe.

Jughead is always so focused on helping and saving others, that when he begins to grow older, it will never occur to him that maybe he's the one that needs saving.

The red head begins to carefully slide down the pole until he lands safely on the ground, causing a smile of relief to grace both of the boy's faces. Jughead quickly runs up to Archie and grabs his hand, pulling him along out of the soon to be broken home.

After walking for a few minutes, the scarlet hue realizes that they aren't going to the raven haired boy's house.

"Where are you taking me Juggy?" Archie asks quietly, his voice hoarse and eyes stained ruby from crying.

"You'll see." The conductor of the journey responds before swinging their entwined hands back and forth.

The duo keeps walking until they reach the mostly vacant tailor park a few blocks down from where Jughead lives. The darker hue's dad takes him here all the time just to talk. He has always admired the way his dad's voice would fill the crisp air, shattering the silence and filling it with words of thunder, or even zephyr. Jughead wishes to be able to do the same one day.

"If you want to talk about what's going on, we can talk about here. My dad calls it the no judgement park." The raven haired boy giggles quietly.

Archie nods in agreement before Jughead gently pulls him over to an old bench. The scarlet hue immediately cuddles into his friend, and begins to fill the night air with his words.
