Fourteen Years Old ❣︎ January

He's suffocating for the 12th time.

Despite having the same scenario happen 12 times tonight, he can't wake up, he can't realize he's dreaming, and it feels just as real as it did back in May when it happened.

When his dad hurt him.

The incident has always been on the back of the boy's mind. Something like that doesn't just leave you, and to be fair he wasn't really coping with it the right way. Packing it away, acting like it never happened, and throwing a smile on your face isn't the right way to go about handling a severe situation. The trauma was bound to haunt him again, and here it is.

Jughead just wants to forget.

A fuzzy noise sounds throughout his nightmare, and soon Jughead is waking up in a cold sweat, panting heavily and clawing at the invisible hands on his neck.

"Juggy?" Archie almost whispers, his hand on his shoulder from when he tried to wake the boy up. He'd been groaning in his sleep, and it almost sounded painful. He was practically shaking, and if Archie was being honest it almost looked like an exorcism.

Jughead looks to his left, eyes immediately softening before practically launching himself into the redhead's arms. Archie blinks, taken aback by the sudden display of affection that Jughead isn't usually known to give, before hugging him back tightly.

"I'm sorry." Jughead attempts to breathe out, voice shaky and of breath, before curling up into his safe haven more.

"No don't apologize. It's okay, I'm here now." Archie soothes while beginning to run his fingers through the boy's soft raven black hair.

Archie has never ever been more worried about the boy curled up in his arms before. This isn't a complete breakdown, there's no sign of Jughead crying, which would have really worried him, but it's evidence enough to prove that he's definitely not okay.

Jughead has never ever acted this way before. It's almost kind of vulnerable, and Archie secretly likes that he's soothing and calming down Jughead for once.

He's almost fan girling at the cute way the darker hue calmed down a bit when he laid eyes on him, and how he desperately clung to him afterwards.

It was almost like he was the first person he wanted to see, and the thought makes Archie blush a vivid red.

Jughead however, is coming across another situation he doesn't know how to handle very well.

Archie.

Something just changed.

It's not a physical change. It's not something you could hear or see or taste. It's emotional, and he felt it the minute Archie told him he was here now.

The sentence had sent ripples directly to his heart, only causing it to beat faster than it already was. The pulsing filled his head, and it honestly felt good. It was a rush and it came all at once.

His arms all of a sudden feel safe to Jughead too, a thing he hasn't felt in a long time, and he can't seem to find a reason not to stay in them for as long as he can.

The scent all of a sudden becomes intoxicating, and he only wants to curl up into more because that's the closet thing he can get to bathing in it.

The feeling of his lips on his suddenly makes its way to the front of his memory from a year ago, and it's the only thing he can focus on now.

Archie is the only thing he wants to focus on.

Archie is home.

"Bad dream?"

Jughead just hums in response.

"Okay, we'll talk about it tomorrow."

The two sit in silence, Archie still playing with the sleepy boy's hair.

"Can you sing to me, Arch?" Jughead mumbles, sending vibrations into the redhead's chest.

"What song?"

"Anything, just wanna hear your pretty voice." He yawns tiredly.

Archie blushes again, grateful that Jughead can't see how red he is.

"I can hold my breath, I can bite my tongue. I can stay awake for days..."

Short chapter, but an important chapter.

Archie began to like Jughead slowly, year by year, and it's cute how you can see the progression of his feelings.

But Jughead is just now getting feelings for Archie. He fell quickly, and all at once. It was really sudden for him, but that's okay because everyone loves differently.

Also, the song Archie is singing is human and it's probably my favorite song. It's the song I'll sing and instantly break into tears in because it means that much to me.
