Alaina P.O.V

I decide to take a shower which does nothing but give me more time to think about Ace. Trusting people is difficult for me and despite the mate pull, I'm having a hard time trusting him.

Stepping out of the shower, I change into the clothes I picked out for myself: under armor shorts and a gray long sleeved shirt. I step out onto the balcony that's attached to my room for the first time and plop down into a swing chair.

I'm not sure how long I stay seated but the sun is starting to set now, filling the sky with different shades of orange and pick. The faint breeze relaxes me. Leaning back into the chair, I stare at the sky, taking in its magnificent beauty.

I hear a knock at the door but I ignore it, assuming it's just Alette again.

''Alaina?''

It's not her. I close my eyes, wishing for him to leave but he doesn't. Instead, I hear him open the door. I squeeze my eyes shut tightly as I hear him step onto the balcony.

''Alaina?'' he says again.

I open my eyes slowly but don't meet his. I keep my gaze on the mesmerising sunset in front of me. Out of the corner of my eye, I see him pull up a chair and sit diagonal to me. I refuse to acknowledge his presence.

''You've been sitting out here for hours.''

I ignore him but shift in my seat.

''Alette says you haven't eaten all day.''

I haven't and I can feel the aching emptiness in my stomach but I don't tell him that.

''I had given up on finding my mate, wolves usually find their mate at eighteen, I'm twenty-two and I didn't,'' he hesitates, ''I didn't sleep with anyone until I was twenty. I thought I'd never find my mate. I was stupid and if I could take every one of those nights back, I would.''

I clench my jaw yet still don't look at him.

''Alaina,'' he whispers.

I finally meet his eyes, ''What?''

''I'm so, so sorry.''

He is, he looks genuinely hurt and guilty which makes me tear up, ''I know.''

''Please forgive me.''

I nod, ''I forgive you.''

I didn't realize that he was tense but I see his shoulders relax, ''Come eat something, you must be starving.''

''Can we wait until the sun finishes setting? It'll only be a minute.''

''Of course.''

We sit in silence, staring at the sun getting lower and lower until it's gone. Ace stands up and offers me his hand, I take it. We get to the kitchen and Alette and Landon are there.

Alette perks up when she sees me and runs over to hug me, ''Thank god, I thought you'd never come out.''

I pull away from the hug, ''Honestly, so did I.''

She smiles and nods toward the food, ''You must be hungry.''

''I am.''

''I hope you like pizza.''

''I've never had it,'' I say.

''Oh my gosh, it's so good!''

It was and soon, I'm completely stuffed. It was a little awkward, I felt Ace watching me the entire time as Landon and Alette teased each other back and forth. I didn't say much, I occasionally nodded or agreed with Alette half-heartedly every once in awhile but that was it.
