It's official. I have been avoiding Julian for 3 days 11 hours and 27 minutes. As soon as drunk me realized what I was doing I excused myself and told Julian that I had to go home. Okay no, that's a lie. I pushed him off of me and stumbled, I mean. I ran out of the house and took an uber home. To say that I was freaking out was an understatement. If I had been sober I would have handled the situation much better but then again if I had been sober I wouldn't have been in that situation in the first place. Over the years I've taught myself to suppress my emotions. Allow myself to act only in my best interest and know how to navigate high schools rough social waters. Unfortunately that function was failing right now. I knew it shouldn't really matter, we were drunk we didn't really know what we were doing. I couldn't help but have panic and anxiety bubble in my chest when the thought of having to confront Julian and come to terms of what happened. It didn't mean anything. Right? No, it did not.
As lunch started me and Nina walked down the hallways. Arguing over if you had half a bottle of 5 hour energy would it give you 5 hours of half assed energy or 2 and half hours of full energy.
"Okay but it's meant to give you 5 hours of energy if you drink half, same burst, less time" I argue
"La la, I can't hear you" Nina says playfully covering her ears with her hands like a little kid. I roll my eyes and grab her arms trying to take them off her ears "I'm so right you're wrong" I say knowing she could hear me.
"Nope" she says in a sing song voice "5 hours of half assed energy" I had her arms pinned to her sides now.
"I swear to god Nina" I laugh out loud. She shakes her head vigorously "You know I'm right, yore just jealous cause I'm way smarter than you" she screams out loud, obviously not caring what other people thought. My eyes widen and I clamp my hands over her mouth. "Shut up" I shush her "You're going to get us in trouble" I laugh. She tries to say something but it all comes out muffled.
I feel something wet on the palm of my hand. I squeal and take my hands off of her. "Did you just lick me?" I ask in disbelief. With a satisfied grin on her face "Yup" Nina chirps happily. "Ya nasty, you don't know where my hands have been" I wipe my hands off on my jeans.
Nina frowns to herself and scrunches up her nose "Ewwww" she complains loudly. I laugh "Just joking" I sing mimicking her. "Now that's just mean. Now I have to worry about all the diseases you have"
"Yeah like what?" I ask
She thinks for a second "Like chicken pox"
"Chicken pox? You realize I had my shots right?"
"Well what about hmmm. Oh, Ebola! And you probably have the flu, flu season is staring. And you probably have some nasty sexy time diseases. Like aids and clementinia" she exclaims
I frown "Clementinia? Do you mean cl-"
"I'm going to die" Nina wails loudly "I'm too young to die. Not like this, it's so stupidly sad it won't even be sad anymore. It'll just be a dumb death" She dramatically places the back her hand against her forehead. I shake my head chuckling "Okay drama mama, we need to go eat lunch" I have to admit me and Nina have gotten pretty close. Usually I would keep my guard up but she gets me. She's loud and silly and every bit as weird as me. Not that everyone else needs to know that. For some reason Isabelle has been ignoring me. I still can't figure out why. I'll have to ask her about it when I see her in the cafeteria. A pair of hands slip over my eyes making the world go dark. "Guess who?" Murmurs a familiar voice. My whole body goes rigid. I know exactly who it is. "Nina?" I call out hoping she'll help me out of this. "She left" I can hear the smirk in his voice. "Traitor" I mutter bitterly.
He lets me see again. I turn around to face him. Julian's hair is not styled back in its usual do. Instead it looks messy and pieces of it falling over his blue eyes. I cross my arms over my chest. "You've been avoiding me" he says accusingly. I open my mouth to start arguing but I catch myself. I take a shallow breath in. "No, I haven't"
"Yes you have. Every time you've seen me in the hallways you've practically sprinted the other way. Even in Biology. We sit next to each other for crying out loud. "
It slightly amuses me that Julian was so frustrated by me- and I say this quoting Julian- sprinting away from him.
"I'm not avoiding you. I've just been... busy" I say coming up with the right word. He arches an eyebrow at me "Really? So busy you can't even talk to your boyfriend?" My heart seems to skip a beat. He was just saying that to keep up the act right? It seems like we were alone though....
"Is this cause of what happened at the party? It's cause we ki-"
"Shut up" I hiss "Don't say it out loud"
The corner of his mouth tugs up. "It doesn't have to mean anything if you don't want it to" my eyes flick up to his, I had been avoiding his direct gaze. "What?"
"We were drunk and didn't know what we were doing. It doesn't have to mean anything."
I nod "okay" he gives me a weak smile. "That's a relief I thought it was because-"
"Because you're a bad kisser" I cut in. Julian looks taken a back.
"I'm a bad kisser?" He questions. "Yeah, I felt like a wet dog tongue was being shoved down my throat" I pretend to shudder from the bad memory.
He dramatically puts his hand over his heart "I am hurt Lilly Parks. I'll have you know I am a phenomenal kisser. You just have a really bad memory."
"Oh yeah, you sure about that?"
"Yeah, want me to prove it?"
"I. Dare. You." I say breathlessly. I'm looking into his blue eyes. The world around us doesn't exist anymore. Just like at the party, except now we're alone.
"Miss Parks and Mr Darveau" calls out a stern voice. I cringe to myself and turn to look at Mrs. Wallas. My communications teacher, I have her 2nd period. "Why hello Mrs. Wallas" Julian says in a sweet, polite tone. She returns the salutation with a small curt nod. "You two are supposed to be in the cafeteria right now, or did you forget?"
Julian chuckles lightly "Sorry Miss, but Lilly here just couldn't resist my handsome charms." He says a little too smugly.
"Hey-!" I try to cut in. Julian shushes me and outs and arm around me.
Mrs Wallas did the last thing I'd thought she do. She giggled, she put her hand over her mouth. "Oh young love. Ahh how I wish I could experience that again. I'll let you two off with a warning. Off to the cafeteria you two" she waves us off.
"Come on" Julian says putting his arm around me and we walk towards the cafeteria
