I was getting a my books out of my locker when a pair of hands slip over my eyes making the world go dark. My body freezes. Who was the person behind me. A flutter of fear pulses in my chest. I shake the feeling away, you were safe. What the hell? I don't have the patience for this. "Guess who?" Says a deep teasing voice. I relaxed, I knew that voice. I turn around and find myself face to face with none other than Julian. He had a grin spread across his beautifully sculpted face. His dark hair looked messy as if he had just rolled out of bed. But he made it work.

His fingers comb through my hair. I bit my bottom lip, I would never admit this, especially not to him but I like it when people touched my hair. "Hey princess" I fight the urge to roll my eyes at his little pet name for me. It was one of many. "Hey" I say simply in response. It had been about a week since we started 'dating'

Of course rumours have been spreading like a wild fire. Whispers a it is having some kind of sex agreement or that our families were from the different Mafias and this was some kind of arrangement. They were all petty and extremely far fetched. The mafia, really? I had forgotten how stupid the rumours at Eastdale  could be.

"So, I was wondering about something" Julian murmurs as he continues to play with my hair as I had turned around to find he organizing my locker. I nodded hesitantly, what did he want this time? "What's up?" I ask  nonchalantly. His fingers trailed up and down my arms. The motion sent chills down my spine. I bit my bottom lip, he was acting strangely. Not good.

"Well, I was wondering if you could possibly maybe try out for the cheerleading squad...?" He asks his voice trailing off into an awkward silence.  I spin back around to look at him "What?" I say. He wanted me to join the cheerleading squad? There was no way I was going to do that. I remember back when I was a little chub ball back in the ninth grade. How I looked up to the beautiful and perfect cheer squad. Of course most of them were  cold and ruthless. They were shallow and only cared about their image. I didn't want to be one of those girls even if I wanted popularity. I could never sink to their level where it consumed their whole lives and stepped all over people as if they are merely stepping stones.  Nope, sorry Julian. It wasn't going to happen, nothing you will do or say was going to change my mind.

And yet here I was watching the cheerleaders warming up.  He had bribed my with food and offered to take me to the mall and buy me anything  I wanted with $500 spending money. Having a rich 'boyfriend' had its perks. It's not like I was taking advantage of him. He offered in exchange for me to try out for the cheerleading squad. I stood with a group of others girls wanting to to try out. I felt the breeze over my legs. I was wearing a pair of shorts and a black tank top.  My hair messily pulled up into a high ponytail. Nina caught my eye as she practiced her routine. I gave her a friendly smile. The girls finished their routine with a big lift where a petite blonde girl was thrown into the air where she did a flip and landed back gracefully onto the arms of her teammates. They let her down and she walked over to us. The rest of the cheer squad stood in a line.

The blonde girl, was the captain I assumed. Her eyes coldly looked over us. Her lips had a layer of red matte  lipstick over them and her eyes had perfect winged liner, thick black lines.  "The angels don't  need any of you clumsy blow fishes on the team." It was silent. Who the hell did this girl think she was? "But according to school guide lines I have to at least let you guys try out and if you demonstrate the skill and level needed to be on my squad then tragically you will be allowed to join. But I doubt it"  This girl was getting on my nerves, one by one.  "My squad needs fire. I need feisty. If you're too shy and aren't willing to do what it takes you may leave, now" no one dared move. She gives us a fake smile.  "Perfect" she calls her hand together. Her smile drops and throws daggers at us with her eyes.

She walks over to a speaker system that's sitting on the bottom bleacher. She plugs it in and an upbeat pop song brings to play loudly throughout the fields. The cheer squad is now sitting down on the grass, facing us. The blonde girl stands in front of them her hands on her hips. "First part of the try out: tumbling" she says loudly over the blaring music. Most the girls around me nervously made their way over to start tumbling. Some of them did cartwheels and some 1-handed cartwheels. Most of them look shaky and unsure, their form failing. When it was my turn I started doing cartwheels, in a straight line with my toes perfectly pointed. This was boring. I thought mid cartwheel. I did a round off into a back handspring landing gracefully on my feet. Some of the other girls were looking at me in what was it, awe.

I realize the music had stopped playing. The blonde girl had paused it and made her way over to me. She looked me over. "what's your name?" She asks me in a flat tone. "Lilly" I respond wondering what was going on. "Well Lilly. Welcome to the Angels" she said giving a very small smile . "My names Monica by the way" she says over her shoulder.I blink.

Monica spun on her heel and calls out "Try outs are over. None of you have what it takes to be a fiery angel. Unlike, Lilly here" she says coldly, motioning to me. "Get out.  I don't want to see you guys again. You all suck and proved to me that you all really are clumsy blowfishes." No one had moved "Except of course at the games and pep rallies!" Monica says her voice dripping with icky sweetness that was no doubt fake. "Go Angels!" She says cheerfully and sashays to her cheer squad.

What the hell had I gotten myself into?
