Okay so last time I went to a school dance- in short, it was a total disaster
"Can we ta-" he begins to ask.
"No!" I snap "We cannot talk!" I yell at him. "We cannot talk about how I was freaking sobbing in my sleep calling out for my mother. I can't talk about it Julian. I don't want to talk about it. Quite frankly it's absolutely none of your business. You're not my boyfriend, stop acting like you actually care. Stop acting like you care about what I'm going through and- and stop acting like you care about me!" I yell. He had taken his mask off somewhere during he process of my rant
"Lilly-" Julian said softly with a concerned look on his face. But I didn't care, I didn't want to hear his sweet words and let him comfort me. I was fed up I just wanted to get everything out.
"No!" I cut him off "I don't want to hear it. You know what? You want to know why I was crying and screaming in my sleep. Do you want to know why I freaked out in the closet when there was an alarm? I watched my parents fucking die. I watched as some psychopaths fucking shoot them in the head!" At this point I'm shaking and there are tears in my eyes. I laugh manically "Isn't that great Julian? Ha the girl you're trying to score with parents died. Hilarious, now all you have to do is console me. Tell me some sweet words and watch my melt in you arms, right?" I laugh to myself again with tears streaming down my face "But guess what? That's not going to happen. You're not going to screw me and you're not going to win the stupid game. So leave me alone!" I scream at him trembling.
Yup, did not want to re-live that. We can hear the pounding of the music before we even stepped inside the gym. Students chatted as they made their way to the dance. We handed our tickets to the teacher at the door.
"Have fun girls" she calls out to us as we walk past her. I couldn't help but smile at the scene inside the gym. People were dancing, some were sitting at the tables eating but everyone was having a good time.
Alissa takes Maya and my hands and drags us to the photos booth set up in the corner.
"Say Cheese" Thomas says cheerfully.
Me and Alissa say "Cheese!" Like he told us to but Maya stays stolen the and poses with us.
"Aw come on, Maya. You have to say it or it doesn't count" Thomas chides her. He smiles nervously as he waits for her reply. Alissa and I look between them ask waiting for her response. Maya flips him off and stalks away.
"Babe," Thomas calls after her "Wait-"
"Don't call me babe" she snaps and disappears into the dance floor. I stand there awkwardly biting the inside of my cheek, "Well...." I say
"We'll see you later. Bye Thomas!" Alissa says cheerfully and walks quickly away from the situation, me following behind her.
"What happened?" I ask Alissa as we search for Maya in the crowded room. "Didn't they go out on a date like last week?"
She nods a little distracted "Yeah, but then I'm guessing something happened and um well she won't talk about it so we just dropped it"
I bite my lip and nod. I would have to ask her about that as soon as I got her alone. "How's it going with Connor?" I ask
Her face flushes, I could see it despite the limited lighting. "Um, well- er you see it's um" she clears her throat
I giggle "Hmm" I raise an eyebrow at her "What's going on there?"
"It's not anything dirty, if that's what you're thinking. It's not like that with him it's just-" she trails off
"Have you guys kissed?" I ask nudging her playfully.
"Well, yeah and"
I fake gasp "Oh my god, our little angel Alissa has kissed Connor?!" I say loudly
Her eyes widen as she practically tackles me, almost knocking us to the ground. She presses her hands over my mouth "Shut up" she hisses "someone is going to hear you and then I will die of embarrassment and then I'm going to freaking murder you and no one will be find your body, mkay?"
I smile and peel her hands off my face "Okay 1. Ya ruined my lips stick, 2. Chill no ones going to hear me and 3. Damn girl, I didn't think you were so violent" I laugh
Alissa sighs and rolls her eyes "Sorry and when it comes to Connor I would like to keep that on the down low for now so"
I nod "Okay- oh there's Maya" I say spotting her sitting alone at one of the tables.
We sit down beside her, leaving her in the middle.
"Go away" she mumbles refusing to look at us.
"Nope" I say popping the P.
Alissa folds her hands in front of her, turn to look at Maya and starts humming mindlessly. I turn to look at her as well and let out a sigh.
Maya turns her head to look at me and then slowly turns her head to look at Alissa who just stares back at her.
Maya ducks her head in her arms "Stop looking at me!" She complains.
"No!" We both say in unison
"Not until you tell us what's wrong" I tell her
"Or else we're just going to sit here for the rest night" Alissa shrugs
Maya groans and looks up with pleasing eyes basically telling us to leave her alone.
"I- I'll, can we talk about this somewhere else, more private, like my house after the dance"
Me and Alissa consider the offer "Fine" I give in
"I'm holding you to that though" Alissa says as she gets up.
Maya nods and and gets up as well. Before I get up my phone stars ringing.
"Give me a sec, I'll be right there" I tell them as they walk to the dance floor.
"Okay" Alissa calls over her shoulder dragging Maya behind her.
I click answer without even looking at the caller ID.
"Hello?" I ask casually
"Hello Lillian" a distorted voice answers. It's like everything comes to a stop, I can feel the ice in my veins, I freeze up.
"Who is this?" I ask tentatively
A cruel laugh comes in response "I think you know who this is, my little puppet" they respond.
I close my eyes and ask "What do you want?"
I hold my breath, a second passes. "Wouldn't it be a shame if Isabelle saw that poster? I mean she would tell everyone you're dirty little secret"
"She doesn't know?" I whisper
They laugh again "No. Why do you think that the whispers have gone away. Do you really think I would let our little game end so quickly?"
"What do you want?" I repeat firmly
"Girls bathroom.I'll give you more instructions then."
They hang up.
