My car slows to a stop, I take the keys out of the ignition and the sound of the engine dies down. I sigh and look out in front of me. The sun was setting, it was going to be cold. Good thing I had the jacket at least.
I sit behind the wheel twiddling with my keys. Was I really going to do this? For all I knew they could be luring me out into the forest for any number of creepy and sadistic reason.
Was it the same person as last time? I could almost remember the first text message they sent me when I was only thirteen years old. I was so scared and I knew I couldn't go to the police for help.
It was like they were giving me instructions from a manual on how to destroy my parents marriage. I had to watch helplessly as it their marriage crumbled away slowly, piece by piece until finally I refused.
I refuse to hide those papers. I refused to send messages from their phones. I refuse to call the bank and mess things up. I refused to set up fake messages from other phones .
I had refused to take their threat seriously and disobey. I refused and they had retaliated by murdering my parents. Right in front of me. My parents were dead by the time the cops came.
Slowly I step out of my car and close the door behind me. I force away the dark thoughts from my mind. I walk out to the little path and press the lock button on my key chain. I hear the little beeping noise that told me my car was now locked.
The breeze messes up my loose hair, covering my face. I push it back with a small grumble and continue down the dirt path. It was getting darker by the minute. Not wanting to trip on roots I couldn't see I take out my phone and illuminate the path with its flashlight.
I tighten the jacket around me and trudge onto the darkness of the forest. For a while it was silent and all I could hear was the sound of my own breathing and foot steps. The farther I walked on, I began to hear the faintest sound of music and people talking. So they hadn't sent me to meet Julian in the middle of the forest. I was going to a party. I hadn't known about anyone having a party at Eastdale.
So that meant it was someone from Westdale throwing the party. That fact did little to comfort me. In fact it did quite the opposite, it frightened me a little. From what Julian said, it wasn't good.
That just meant Cade would be there.
The music is now practically blaring into my ears, though I see no speakers. There's an opening to a pavilion with lights strung up on it and also on surrounding trees. I saw vape clouds and could hear the drunken laughs of people. So it was this kind of party.
I slipped my phone into my front pocket. I stood there staring at the party silently for a moment. I could do this right? It was one kiss, I could manage that right? It didn't have to mean anything to him. It wouldn't mean anything to him.
I see my shoulders back and take a breath. I'm Lilly Parks. I was crashing Westdale's party and no one could do a thing about it.
I put my cool hint of a smile on my face and strut into the party. I see a few people turn to look at me, mostly guys but no one says anything. I find a cooler with beee cans. I was going to need a little liquid luck if I wanted to get though with this without completely freaking out.
I found myself tuned into the music and dancing on to the dance floor. My body flowed with the music. I let all my insecurities, worries and fears melt away. I dance not caring who saw me.
I meet the eye of dark haired boy. He was watching me. I smirked at him and turned away continuing on with my dancing. I felt a pair of hands slide onto my waist. I smiles to myself a little, I knew it was the guy who was watching me. I checked just in case though.
His eyes were dark like his hair. His eyes twinkled despite the darkness that surrounded us. He pressed himself against me, and I let him. I don't how long we danced for but I really did not care.
We moved together with the music bearing somewhere in the background. It wasn't like butterflies in my stomach or electricity flowing through my skin everywhere he touched me like Julian.
It was just raw. Hot and raw. Flesh against flesh. Bodies moving together. It wasn't magical but it felt good to just let go and give in.
I felt him lean down his head to my shoulder and whisper in my ear "What's your name?"
That's what brought me back. My body continued dancing with him but my mind went blank. My name was Lillian Parkingdale. No, my name was Lilly Parks now. But he didn't have to know that though . Nobody had to know that. I tilted my head a little to talk to him "Don't worry about it"
I slipped away from his grasp and left him standing there. I continued walking away from until I left the roof of the pavilion. I stood on the grass most of the music and chaos behind me, literally.
I took another swing of my beer. The wind blew and left me with a chill. I stood there for a while. The guy hadn't followed me out, good.
"Why hello there" A voice to my left said. I turned to see who it was. It wasn't the guy from the dance floor. But the guy who was standing there was much worse.
Their green eyes were twinkling. I had once thought of them as warm and kind. I know better now.
"Hello Cade"
