I couldn't help the audible groan that left my mouth as I saw my father was picking me up for school. His sunglasses were pushed to the edge of his nose as he looked for me in the giant crowd of teenagers. When his eyes finally caught mine he smirked and motioned for me to come on.
"You're dad is picking you up?" My best friend laughed, "Have fun staying with him."
"Shut up." I muttered as I drug myself to his crazy expensive sports car. Most people are jealous of the fact that my father is Tony Stark, but let me tell you, I hate it. Our personalities are polar opposite and I have nothing in common with him. We're always so awkward around each other. Honestly, he probably wouldn't have anything to do with me if it weren't for my mother.
"Hey, kid." He said quickly as I dropped into the passenger seat, throwing my book bag to my feet. "How was school."
"Fine." I mumbled to myself as I pulled my ipod out of my bag, getting ready to ignore him for the fifty minute drive to the city. "Why didn't mom get me?"
"Big work trip came up out of nowhere. She thinks this will lead to her big promotion." He answered as the car began to speed up. I hummed in response as I placed one headphone into my ear. He made small talk as I only nodded or shrugged in response. My focus was more on the guy I was texting about going on a date with.
When we finally reached the tower I was about to get out of the car when he snatched my phone from my hands.
"What're you doing?" I asked angrily as I grabbed for my phone. He kept moving it as he gave me a stern look.
"You're mother told me about your grades in science," He said as I rolled my eyes, "Plus I wanna see what's so interesting that you couldn't talk to your dad for the whole car ride." He jumped out of the car and ran towards the elevator. I was right after him and jumped in before he could close the doors, but that didn't help with the fact he was taller than me.
"Why do you care about my science grades? You don't have a right to take my phone!" I yelled as I jumped and reached for it.
"1: I am your father, I have every right. 2:You will not be going on a date with this boy tonight and 3: because you're a stark and Starks are good at science." He rattled off as he finally pocketed my phone.
"You're my father?" I scoffed. "Barely. I don't even share your last name. I have moms!" His head quickly turned towards me. "And I hate science! It's absolutely terrible and boring!" I yelled at him.
The elevator dinged and I ran straight to my room without speaking to anyone, not even Steve. As I slammed the door to my room my TV turned on showing me the scene in the living room. "I don't wanna see him or hear his voice FRIDAY." I complained to the AI. She didn't respond but my father's voice brought me out of my trance.
"Barely?" He whispered. "I thought she loved science?" He slowly sat beside Steve. He looked so confused, it was a look I'd never seen on my father's face.
"He feels guilty." FRIDAY spoke. I ignored her words as I stared at my feet.
"Tony, the only time you ever talk to her is when she comes over. You never even call her and you miss all of her events." Steve told as he placed a hand on his shoulder. "She's really gotten into art. She loves to sketch."
"How do you know all this?" My dad asked, suddenly defensive.
"We started talking one day when you were in the lab. She wanted to talk to you but you said you were busy." He explained. "She's like a little sister."
"Oh." He visibly relaxed. "I think I'm gonna go talk to her."
My TV immediately turned off and all I had to do was wait for the knock. When it came I hesitated before allowing him to come in. He didn't say anything at first but handed my phone back to me.
"I came to apologize about my terrible attitude and for being an awful father." He said sincerely with an awkward look on his face.
"What did I do?" I asked as tears started to build up in my eyes. "You were visiting me every weekend and bringing me gifts and God forbid you miss an event of mine. Then all of a sudden you just stopped, it was as if you died, but I quickly learned that wasn't it." By now I was properly crying.
"What was it?" He asked as he rubbed my back, a guilty look engraved on his face.
"You were Iron Man. You were out saving the world and doing good and all of a sudden you had no time for me! I know it's selfish but I'd rather have an army of aliens take over as long as I'm allowed to have my father back!" I was wiping my eyes and trying not hiccup as I spoke. I probably looked like a mess. My dad pulled me into a hug and squeezed me. "I hate Iron Man."
"I promise I'll make more time for you." It was then that I noticed he was crying as well. "How about we start tonight. You can cancel that date. It won't hurt to rescheduled." He said with a sly look on his face.
"Dad!" I smacked his arm. "I couldn't do that to Peter!"
"Peter?" His eyebrows rose. "Does this Peter have a last name."
"Yeah, Peter Parker. Do you know his family or something." I asked.
"Or something."
