Warnings: This is a gray/dark fic, the fae are not going to be good people in this. Fantasy age gap, immortal Bucky w a mortal reader.

I still remember the first time I met a fae.

My family lives on the far outskirts of the kingdom, in a cottage by the woods. My father was a farmer, but he also worked for the king. My father had been sent into the forest on a suicidal mission when he was young and in the army, during the war with the fae.

He had been sent to barter with the fae king. You see, my father had lived in this cottage his entire life, he knew his way around the forest. He knew what to watch out for.

A week later my father had walked out of that forest with a deal for our King. A deal that would allow both sides to agree to a draw. Only the king and my father know what that deal was.

This had led to my father being the representative of the human race. Every so often the king will request him to meet with the fae over a dispute, and every so often the fae king would summon him as well.

The first time I met the fae king had been the only time I had met the fae king.

I have two older brothers, Orion and Florian. As a child our favorite game was hide and seek, a game I wasn't very good at.

I had ran into the woods to hide, running until I could no longer hear Florian counting. It wasn't until his voice had faded and I took in my surroundings that I realized, I have no idea which direction I came from. The trees creaked and the wind blew the fallen leaves around me. Everything looks the same.

Then I heard a murmur. A voice I recognized.

I ran in the direction of my father's voice. Pine cones crunched under my feet as I desperately looked for him. Finally I spotted his dark hair, hair that matched my own.

"Papa!" I yelled, sprinting to him. His voice stopped and his head snapped in my direction. As I reached him he caught me in his arms, pulling me up into his hold. I wrapped my arms around his neck and and my legs around his waist.

"What are you doing out here, sweet girl?" He scolded into my ear.

"We were playing hide and seek and they kept finding me!" I pouted. "I thought I could hide out here. But then I got lost."

"You never told me you had heirs," a smooth voice sung behind me. I turned my head to see a tall man with dark hair. He had bright blue eyes and a dark cloak surrounded him. He stood in a circle of mushrooms. A faerie circle. "May I have your name, little one?"

I looked back to my father, he shook his head.

"I'm not supposed to tell strangers my name," I whispered to the man, "and not s'posed to take gifts."

"You're papa has taught you well," the man smirked.

"Bow your head, sweet girl. He is a king." My father whispered. I shyly looked towards the man before leaning my head towards the ground. The man's eyes followed my every movement.

"Is he your friend, Papa?" I asked.

The man looked at my father curiously, it had seemed he wanted to know what he would say.

"I'm not sure," he had answered with an unsure voice, "I would like to think so."

Whether my father meant it or spoke in fear of offending the fae king, I wouldn't know.
