A/N: I made an ao3 and am beginning to post a little on there! I'm cross posting His Muse and have started a new fic :) I would love for yall to check it out!
I had the fake smile on my face perfected for events like this. I truly don't mind my job. Being a high-end escort allows me to go places I would never be able to otherwise and eat food I would never be able to afford. The biggest downside is the company. Rich men who only care about themselves and spend their evenings telling me how great they are.
So here I sit in this beautiful building outside of the city, eating the most amazing steak I've had in my life, and listening to my date tell me about how he manipulated his old business partner into giving him his part of the company.
I nodded subtly as he spoke, sitting my hand on the inside of his arm. He licked his lips, staring more at my cleavage than he would at my face.
"What's this event being held for?" I asked as servers began to clear the tables and bring out the next course.
"I'm actually not sure. A business friend called for the meeting a little while ago, I was meant to come with my fiancé but she had to go out of town suddenly." Mark rolled his eyes.
"Fiancé?" My eyebrows rose. "My profile specifically says I do not engage with people who are in relationships. You told me you were single."
"Oh, don't worry about it! You're getting paid either way." He muttered, waving a server over for another glass of champagne.
My jaw tightened, but I accepted the extra glass he handed me. Now is not the time to make a scene. There were only about thirty people at this dinner party, but I could tell that they were all very important.
"Oh, he's here!" Mark stood, the rest of the room seeming to copy.
My eyes widened as I saw Tony Stark walk into the room with another man who seemed to be a guard of some sort. Tony Stark is an alleged mafia lord in the city. It's something everyone is aware of yet no one can prove it.
I looked around the room, suddenly aware of the kind of people I might be surrounded by.
Mr. Stark waved to everyone in the room before giving a quick speech to thank everyone for coming. He said once everyone had finished their meal he would explain the reason for meeting today.
Mark held my chair for me as I sat down, but my gaze was on Mr. Stark. The hostess from earlier was whispering in his ear but his stare was directly on me and Mark.
It was only a moment later that he was strutting over to our seats.
"Mark!" He called with a smile, "I don't recognize your guest?"
"Oh, this is," he hesitated, looking over at me.
"I'm Dove," I interrupted, giving Mr. Stark the name I use when working.
"Lovely to meet you." Mr. Stark winked. "I apologize but you were not on the invite that was sent to Mr. Kenton."
"Oh, Patricia had to go out of town suddenly so I thought I might invite the lovely Dove here," Mark smirked, pushing my hair behind my shoulder. I wanted to pull away in disgust but I knew I had to keep the facade.
"Hmm, may I borrow you for a moment, Dove?" Mr. Stark asked, holding an arm out. I looked at Mark who only stared at Stark in confusion.
"Of course, Mr. Stark," I agreed, placing my hand on his arm and standing from my chair.
"Please, call me Tony," he laughed. "Mr. Stark was my father!"
I laughed at the remark that I'd heard from what felt like hundreds of men.
Tony was silent as he led me outside of the dining hall and then out of the building. My heels clacked on the pavement as we walked to the fountain in the front garden.
"You aren't supposed to be here, Dove." He finally broke the silence, and my entire body tensed at the sentence. He knows I'm an escort.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I played dumb, turning my back to him and walking to the edge of the fountain, staring into the water.
"I mean exactly what I said. You're not supposed to be here."
He knows. He can see right through my little act.
"What? Because I'm poor I'm not allowed to enjoy the same wants as the one percent?" I spoke through my teeth, trying to hide my humiliation.
"Not at all. Plenty of people bring escorts to my parties, most of them not nearly as classy as you," he laughed. "You're not supposed to be here because this guest list was specifically chosen you see."
"What for?" I rolled my eyes, ready for a pretentious explanation. Not mentally prepared for the next sentence I was about to hear.
"Well, In about ten minutes everyone in that building is going to die."
My blood froze and my heart fell to my stomach. He couldn't be serious.
"What?" I whispered.
"See, everyone in that room has been stealing money from me. Not only that but they're setting me up to take the fall for the corruption in their businesses." He explained. "Sure, I might have inspired that corruption, but I never made the decision for them."
"But, the staff," I stuttered, looking back towards the building. I took a step back towards it only to be pulled back into Tony's arms.
"It's a shame, but innocent casualties have to happen sometimes," he sighed as if he had no control over the situation.
"Tony please, you can't, they didn't do anything!" I begged, tears filling my eyes. I tried to tug myself out of his grip. "Why me? Why are you letting me live?"
"You shouldn't have to die due to Mark's ignorance." He whispered, kissing my temple. "No, you're much too beautiful for that."
I struggled against his arms, trying my best to pull myself away. I still had time to warn the servers at least.
"Happy!" Tony called with a grunt. Not a moment later a man had lifted me over his shoulder and was walking toward an SUV.
I was thrown into the spacious backseat only to see Tony on the other side of me. The door was slammed behind me and I heard the locking mechanism click. My hands slid along the door, searching for the unlock button, finding it to be missing.
"What are you going to do to me?" I cried, accepting my fate.
"Nothing you don't ask for," he smirked. I hate how put together he looks when I know my make-up is ruined and running down my face. "Of course, I can't let you go. You know too much."
"Please, don't," I begged.
He only smiled at me as the car began to drive away. Seconds later a loud boom echoed behind us and I turned to see a bright fire engulfing the building I had just been sitting in only moments ago.
"Listen, I know this is unexpected. For both of us really. Just know that I'm gonna take care of you. I think we'll get along just swell."
I looked at him in shock, not able to comprehend the casual attitude in which he spoke.
I can only guess at what will happen next.
