I pulled my jacket closer to my body as I walked down the streets of Hells Kitchen. Every little noise I heard in the dark allies I passed would make me jump.
Usually after a night clubbing I would get a cab but I gave my best friend the last of my money so she could take her new boy toy back to her place.
So here I am at 2 o'clock in the morning, in a tight dress, walking down the street. Anyone would be uncomfortable in this situation.
I felt my heart began to race as I saw a man sitting outside of a store with a cigarette dangling front his lips. Even being a little tipsy I could recognize the look in his eyes. I decide to stare straight ahead and hope he didn't stop me. The only noise on the street was the clicking of my heels on the pavement and the small raindrops hitting the ground. The moment I passed the man I felt my body relax, but I thought to soon.
"Where you off to, Babe?" The man grabbed my waist and pulled me back to him. His cigarette was now on the ground and crushed by his foot.
"My home." I grunted as I began to push him away. His grip on me only tightened and he pulled me closer to him.
"Maybe I should tag along." He whispered as his lips went to my neck. I pushed him with all of my strength causing him to stumble backwards. Apparently that wasn't the right thing to do.
"You asked for it now you little bitch!" I took this as my cue to run. I ran straight ahead of me and then made a sharp right into the next ally I got to. I knew it would just risk me meeting some other thug but it was the best chance I had of losing him.
I could hear his heavy footsteps behind me and I could feel my heart beating harder. All of a sudden I ran straight into something. I looked up to realize I had just hit a dead end. The brick wall in front of me was almost taunting me. Making fun of the choice I made. I turned around and pressed my back against the wall as I felt tears began to fill my eyes.
A million thoughts ran through my head as his footsteps came closer and closer to my location, but just as he was about to round the corner I saw someone leap down from a building and I heard the sound of fists hitting bodies. I could only stand there frozen as I knew someone was getting the shit beat out of them just around the corner, and I honestly didn't know who I hoped to win.
My heart thumped against my chest as silence fell upon the ally and I could only hear the heavy breathing of one person. Tears stung my eyes and I pressed my back against the wall according, accepting my fate.
Finally, the man walked around the corner, and in front of me stood the Devil of Hells Kitchen. I let out a breathe I didnt realize I was holding and felt my whole body relax.
"Are you okay?" His voice was rough and he didnt look me in the eyes.
"I wanna go home." I whispered. This man may have saved my life, but his am I to know what kind of person he is.
"Let me walk you. I wouldn't want anything to happen to you." He spoke again and I immediately started shaking my head in panic. He didn't respond bug took a step closer towards me which brought my voice out.
"No. I'm sorry but no." I denied the offer once more. I went to walk past him bug he grabbed my wrist as I went by.
"Please-"
"Take the mask off when you speak to me." I spoke through my teeth. I didn't mean to sound so harsh, but the situation wasn't ideal for me he was a strange man in a costume and I was tipsy and scared.
"I can't-"
"Then let me go." The man stared at the ground, obviously debating on what he should do.
"If I take my mask off. You can't tell anyone you've seen my face." I was shocked when he said this. From what I heard about him he would save the person and disappear immediately.
"O-okay." I cringed at the stutter in my voice.
Slowly he reached up and pulled the mask off his face. My gaze immediately fell to his chocolate brown eyes. Though, his eyes didn't meet mine.
"Are you okay?" He asked once more.
"Yes." I whispered. "Are you.."
"Blind?" He laughed. "I am."
"You, um, you can walk me home now. It's a little cold out." I said after a moment of silence. He laughed again and held his arm out to me.
"Lead the way."
