Let's Talk

I open my eyes and sit up. I look around in disbelief. There is no way this is happening- right?

I'm in the alleyway, the window next to me that leads to Tommy's basement is not shattered, but in one piece. That doesn't make any sense- I must be going crazy, again. I stand up and immediately check my ankle. Nothing. No way- the bullies, the hackers, the villagers- was that all a dream?

A slow smile spreads across my face, but quickly disappears. It was kind of fun in my dream I guess, but still...

I walked out of the alley and immediately knew something was wrong- it was quiet. There was no one out and about, the silence was deafening. I took a step forward cautiously. Nothing happened.

Of course nothing happened you idiot. I thought. I saw a figure standing in a strange outfit across the empty street. I opened my mouth to ask it something and took a step forward when something crunched under my foot. The man spun and looked at me and I good look at him and his outfit before he disappeared, running as fast as he could down the street.

Odd.

I looked down at the floor to see what I stepped on and lifted my foot to find a twig, snapped in half. Suddenly the ground began to shake around me and I looked up to find hundreds of human zombies running toward me. Mixed in with them, were villager zombies. My jaw dropped and I looked up to the sound of laughter.

Their, floating above the army of monstrosities were the six hackers. I stumbled back and was quickly surrounded by zombies, forcing me into the alley. I ran to the wall and tried to climb up, only for someone to yank me down. I twisted to the side to find a person I recognized.

Tommy/Gameknight. That was exactly how to describe it. Half of him was the kid from school while he also flickered in and out of his user form, completely zombified. He raised his sword and brought it-

I sat up screaming. My breaths mixed with weird, girly high pitched noises as I tried to calm down.

Just a nightmare, just a nightmare, just a nightmare. I promised myself, rocking back and forth. Gameknight stepped into the room and I jumped back, only to fall off of the bed and onto the wooden floor.

He ran to my side. "Woah- are you ok?" He asked. I could see his concern.

"F- Fine- just a nightmare." I said, although it seemed I was reassuring myself more than him.

The visions from the dream flew fresh through my mind and I shivered. Was that what would have happened if I had trusted the hackers?

Yes. Said an old voice. I whipped my head around. "Who said that?"

"Said what?" Asked Gameknight. I opened my mouth to respond but thought better of it.

"Nothing." I stood up and took a step, pain only of the slightest flashing through my ankle.

"Woah. How long have I been out?" I asked. Gameknight shifted uncomfortably.

"Well... You were gone for two weeks, and you were sleeping in this house for the day and you woke up today, technically, this is the second day since we found you. You've been sleeping and we've been giving you a lot of healing potions. You were in bad shape." he paused. "What happened and where were you Alex?" He questioned in a whisper.

I looked out the window. "Please don't call me Alex here- they knew who I was! That is not good news- I haven't even played Minecraft in a year." I sighed and sat on the bed.

"I woke up with Carrot in an obsidian cage with iron bars in some sort of prison near their underground base." I began.

"The hackers confronted me in my cell and tried to make a deal with me- information about my father and freedom for something called a digitizer, but that was ridiculous- my Dad is dead. I had no idea what the digitizer was though." I stopped when I saw Gameknight go pale.

"Gameknight? Do you... know something about that?" I asked.

"It's the reason were here." He said, looking away. "When you fell through the basement window, you landed on top of the digitizer and, well, got pulled in while a part of the beam made it around you and hit me, still." He said. My jaw dropped. How did he even get the weird machine?!

"It was my dad's invention." He said, answering my unasked question. "He had blue prints but he sold them, and he's not going to be able to get them back."

This hit me in a tidal wave of emotion. "I'm- I'm never going home?" I asked, refusing to believe it.

"Well, that's where it's complicated. See, he built it, but people always forget stuff, and if he messes it up-" Gameknight shivered.

A part of me died right then and there. I would never see my Mom again, and I didn't have any friends to go back to, so that's it. Well, I guess my nightmare can't come true then-

There is another... Said the old voice again.

"Ah, come on! Seriously?" I yelled in annoyance. Did I say that out loud?

"I know it's a lot to take in, but right now, let's focus on not getting killed, and the best way we can do that is by being prepared." He signaled for me to continue.

"I rejected the offer and they left me alone. Didn't feed me, so I quickly ran out of food in my cell." I frowned. "After about the two week point was up, one of the hackers busted me out and told me a dangerous escape route. I still don't understand that." I paused, thinking about what happened next.

"It was sick what the hackers did Gameknight- horrible. I had it in a nightmare, that's never going away." Said with a bitter laugh. Hoping he would asked for details.

"What did they do?" He asked. Damn it. Now I have to relive it.

"They... put villagers in cells with.... zombies and had them..." I shook my head. "They mutated them." The last line came out in nothing more than a whisper.

"Gameknight, their building an army, and I think they want more than the villagers." I said. "The screams were horrible, so un-human. After I twisted my ankle trying to get away, I was forced to crawl through a tunnel for a day and-" I stood up.

"TOMMY! Their going to attack the village at sun down!" I yelled in panic. Gameknight stood up as well and we ran for the door, only to have him block me from the exit.

"No, stay here- if anything happens to you, it's on me; I can't be responsible for you and the others." With that, he sealed the door and ran toward the watch tower.

At first I stood their, surprised. Then the anger set in.

"I'm not your sister you ass!" I screamed, pounding on the door. I reached into my inventory and found it empty.

Crap.

I banged my head on the wall for being so stupid, then I remembered something.

I slowly reached into my back pocket and pulled out a small object and smiled.

My pocket knife. I unfolded it to one of the little tools that could be used for breaking stuff in the Physical world and popped it into place, and the whole thing enlarged into the form of an iron picaxe. Maybe it was iron because stainless steel isn't a minecraft element but is close enough? I smiled mischievously and looked outside at the setting sun.

Things were about to get wild.
