"So I haven't been here for a while and I didn't do much when I was." I told everyone in the car as I turned on to the driveway that would take me to the house we would be staying in. "I don't know how terrible it looks, just to warn you. Me and my team used this place as a safe-house. When we weren't on missions, we were here most of the time."
"You guys did everything as a team?" Steve asked, glancing over to me as I put the vehicle in park.
"Yeah." I sighed gently. I led them up to the front porch and shuffled around the keys on my key ring for a few moments. "There's a killer twenty-four hour bar about a ten minutes from here with great nachos." I mumbled as I started to unlock the door. "Me, Lee, and Angel dominated the billiard tables down there." As I pushed the door open and flicked the living room light on, I moved aside to let everyone in. "Again, I apologize for the mess."
My eyes fell on to the coffee table in the living room. A binder was opened and pictures were scattered across the table. Sam and Steve glanced to me before migrating towards the table, nosily eying the pictures. Natasha went ahead and began to pick them up for me and she did it rather hastily. Bucky just watched everyone after he shut the door. He didn't seem interested in the pictures.
"Who are these people, Widia?" Steve asked, holding up a photo. "I don't think I've had the pleasure of seeing you smile like this."
"And you won't." I moved to take the picture from him. It was a photograph of me and my team on one of the last night outs we had together.
"Angel took all of these?" Natasha asked as she made a small and neat pile of pictures on the table.
"Of course she did. She loved photography." I sat down heavily on the sofa and began to gather up the binder and the remainder of the pictures.
"Why are all of these out, if you don't mind me asking?" Steve spoke softly.
"Last time I was here with my team, Riggs and I were going through them trying to find out if Felix ever had a handlebar mustache when he joined the team...." I paused for a moment and looked down at the photo that happened to be of the boys in my group: Riggs, Downing, Cisco, Felix, and Jasper. "We got called by Fury that night to go to Uzbekistan the next day and we left this mess down here to go upstairs."
"So you haven't been back here in years?" Sam asked, looking around the living room curiously.
"I have.... Just haven't done anything with the mess."
"We should get some sleep, Widia." Natasha put her hand on my shoulder. "Where do you want us?"
I put the picture down and rubbed my forehead.
"Um, Sam take Jasper's room, you take Angel's, Bucky take Cisco's, and Steve can take Downing's. Their names are on the outside of the doors." I leaned back on the sofa and looked up the stairs. It felt like three elephants were sitting on my chest right now.
"Are you sure, Widia?" Steve drew his brows together. "We can just sleep down here—,"
"I'm sure." I cut him off, pushing myself to my feet. "One room at a time because I'm pretty sure we had a work party here the last time the whole team was here. Who knows what's in these rooms."
I led the way up the stairs. Jasper's room was first. Nothing was messy. His bed was made and the floor was clear.
"Jaz was a neat-freak so you're good to go, Sam." I spoke quietly.
"What was his name again, Widia?" Sam asked, looking at the last name, Greene, on the door.
"Agent Jasper Greene. Best medic I ever knew."
