"You've been here for a while, darlin." The waitress spoke as she stopped at my table. "Think whoever you're waitin for stood you up."

"He's coming." I told her, diverting my eyes away from her and the rest of the people inside the little diner. I looked out to the street, bringing my hand up to brush my fingertips over my lips. "I know he is."

"Whatever you say. You want a refill on that coffee?"

"Yeah." I mumbled, nodding my head as I glanced at her name tag. Her name was Angela. "Thanks."

"No problem, darlin. You need anything, just come get me."

I watched out of the corner of my eyes as she shuffled away. I pulled my phone out and checked for any calls or texts. There was nothing. I sighed heavily and tucked my phone back into my hoodie pocket. The door to the diner dinged as someone entered the little establishment. I watched as the familiar man walked in and looked around. I lifted up my coffee cup, meeting his gaze as I took a long sip of the hot liquid.

"You've been sitting here for two and a half hours." Coulson spoke as he sat down across from me.

"I wanted to make sure there wasn't any unwanted faces following me."

"I think you're more paranoid than last time I saw you."

"Says who?"

"You called me here." He said, bringing his tone down as the subject became serious. "Why?"

"You know why." I wrapped my hands around the coffee cup and looked down at the liquid inside. "I want back in and from what I've been told, you're the boss-man."

"Widia, you were one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s finest but you left under questionable circumstances. Bringing you back to S.H.I.E.L.D. could spark a lot of controversy—,"

"You freaking know that I had nothing to do with what happened in Uzbekistan, Phil!" I hissed at him, leaning across the table as I looked him in the eyes. A lot of agents thought that since I was the only one to live, I had staged something to happen to them. That was far from the case. "I know what happened and-and I need to do something about it. You're taking down HYDRA, right?"

"We're working on it." He nodded his head. "It's a slow process."

"I want to help you with that, Phil. Let me." I begged him quietly. "I know things that no one else knows and I have connections—,"

"To the Winter Soldier." He cut me off. "I know. I keep up with the news."

I locked my jaw.

"That isn't his name, Coulson."

"Listen, Widia. I know you're close to Bucky Barnes and I understand what you want to do but this might not be the best move for you—,"

"Why the hell are you so against me joining S.H.I.E.L.D.? If I recall correctly, you and Fury both came to me when the Avengers were being formed. What the hell happened to all that?"

Phil let out a heavy sigh and looked to out the window for a moment.

"I kind of made a promise to Captain Rogers."

"Are you fucking kidding me!" I stood up, my chair screeching against the floor. Everyone turned to look at me but I didn't care at this moment. "Why the hell would you—,"

"Keep it down, Widia." Coulson hushed me.

"Why the hell would you do that?" I repeated through my teeth as I sat down heavily at the table. "He has no right to say what I can and can't do."

"He reached out to me and said that you might want to join S.H.I.E.L.D. again because of some recent events. He said it wouldn't be safe for you."

I gritted my teeth together, shaking my head as I leaned back in my chair.

"I'm going to make a call. Stay here." I spoke as I stood up and made my way to the bathroom. Once inside, I dialed Steve's number and hit send. I paced the length of the bathroom, waiting for the blonde idiot to pick up.

"Hi, Widia—,"

"Don't 'Hi Widia" me." I cut him off. "You freaking told Coulson not to let me back in?"

"Widia, you know it isn't safe for you to go around taking your anger out on HYDRA."

"You should stay the hell out of my business, Rogers. You-know-who has to run constantly, looking over his shoulder because of those thugs and you get to sit all pretty in your Tower with your stupid team claiming to do shit to take out HYDRA. I actually want to help him—,"

"I am helping him, Widia." Steve cut me off. "I just have to be careful how I do it with being here. The Avengers are in the spotlight with the media and I can't make a bad choice. And Bucky asked me to keep an eye on you. He called a week ago and said to just watch out for you since he couldn't."

My jaw hurt because I was gritting my teeth together so much.

"I have to go. Stay the hell out of my business and my choices, Rogers."

"Widia, I'm sorry—,"

"Don't apologize. I don't want it." I hung up and made my way back to the table Coulson was at.

"Did you talk to him?" He asked me.

"Unfortunately." I mumbled. "Look, Coulson. You can let me back in or you can stick to your stupid promise with Rogers. Either way, I am going to be taking HYDRA down."

For a while, there was nothing but silence as we stared each other down.

"I didn't think that fire would come back." He spoke as he leaned back in his chair. I crinkled my brows together.

"Fire? What fire?"

"The one you had in your eyes before Uzbekistan." Coulson stood up and straightened out his jacket. "Call me tomorrow at this time and I'll give you coordinates to the new base."

I nodded my head, watching as he left the diner. A soft breath was exhaled from my lungs. I didn't realize I had been holding my breath. I leaned back in my chair and ran a hand through my hair.

This was it. Things were going to change.
