My fingers brushed along the length of Bucky's metal forearm. His warm chest pressed against my back. Both of us were as close as possible underneath the blankets, silently trying to make our time together last longer. I closed my eyes, feeling him press another kiss to the top of my shoulder with his lips. His stubble scratched my skin but I didn't mind.
"How much longer do I have?" I whispered, my voice scratchy from how much I had used it earlier.
"It's almost eight." His raspy, deep voice replied. "You should get back to them before they do something drastic."
A few more lines were traced on his metal arm and then I brought my fingers down to clasp around his. I turned over on to my back, letting his hand go so that I could hold the sheet to my chest as I turned. Bucky watched me with a lazy, soft smile. He brushed a few pieces of my hair back behind my ears and then leaned down to kiss my lips.
"We'll see each other before you know it."
"It'll feel like forever." I watched for a moment as he sat up and started to grab his clothes from the floor. "When do you think you'll come back to me?"
"I'll always come back to you, doll. I just.... I just don't know when."
I sat up on the edge of the bed, my back to him. Brushing my messy hair back, I let out a shaky breath. I ran my hand over my face, closing my eyes as I did so.
"You're making this harder for me, Widia."
"I'm sorry." My voice cracked and I hung my head. I was being greedy, wanting to keep him for myself. I wasn't thinking about his safety like I should have been. My chest ached from the thoughts of being away from him for an unknown amount of time. "I'm sorry, I-I can go get your stuff."
"I need to travel light." He shook his head. "I'll be better off without it."
"Bucky, we could just try one more time. Please—,"
"If I would've hit you hard enough earlier, Widia, I could've killed you." He cut me off quietly. Bucky came around to kneel in front of me. He cupped my cheek with his right hand and placed his left one on my hip. "Please don't cry anymore, Widia. It's breaking my heart, doll."
"You have no idea how much you've fixed me." I whispered as I leaned forward to press my forehead to his.
"How could a broken wreck like me fix an amazing gal like you?"
"Stop it." I stuffed my face into the front of his neck, attempting to hide from his false words.
"Would you at least look at me, doll? I want to see your beautiful eyes."
I sighed but gave in. Our eyes met and he brushed his warm thumb over my wet cheeks, wiping the tears from them.
"I'll come back to you."
"Promise?"
"Promise." He leaned forward and gently kissed my lips. "It's always going to be you."
"Please, Bucky." I whispered against his lips, then reached out to grab his biceps so that I could push him away. I needed to be able to talk and look at him. "If you think for one second that you're in trouble and you need help at all, please call me. My number won't change. I'll make sure of it. And I'll always be here for you."
He nodded his head but didn't say anything.
"Promise me, Bucky."
"I promise." He spoke quietly. "As long as you promise the same."
"I promise." I nodded my head softly. We watched each other for a few moments before my arms embraced him and his arms gently wrapped around me.
"Look in the gray backpack of mine. There's a pocket on the inside with a zipper. There's something in there I want you to have." He breathed against my ear.
