The drive to Albany took a little over two hours and we made it there before Sadie. I propped my foot up on the door near the steering wheel and watched the cars pass the little diner. I called her just after leaving the cabin to tell her more specifically where to meet me.

"Thanks for last night, Bucky. And.... uh, sorry for scaring you."

"You didn't scare me." He spoke quietly, his eyes staying on the view out the window. "I just didn't really know what to do at first. I'm not.... I'm not good with physical contact or stuff like that."

"I understand." I tapped my fingers against the steering wheel impatiently. "It was stupid of you to come here, you know that right?" I turned my head to him so I could look at his eyes when he turned to me.

"I didn't want HYDRA getting ahold of you again."

"I would've been fine." I muttered, bringing my eyes back to the diner.

"Why didn't you use your whole superpower thing on the people at the mill?"

I stayed silent, my eyes falling to my lap for a moment. I deserved everything they did to me.

"I figured if they were focused on me, they wouldn't try to come after you guys."

His eyes were drilling holes into my head, but I watched as a familiar white car pulled into the diner parking lot. It was Sadie.

"That's her." I started the truck up and crossed the street. I pulled in to the parking space next to her. "Stay in here."

"That was the plan."

I got out of the truck and tucked my hands into the pockets of my jacket as I waited for Sadie to get out. When she did, her eyes immediately examined my face and she stopped moving.

"Widia Jade, tell me why the hell you're wearing makeup."

"Do you have my stuff?" I started to open the back door to her car but she stopped me and held the door shut. She knew I never wore makeup.

"Damn it, Widia!" Sadie cursed. "What happened to you? You look like you got into a fight with a train."

"I'm fine. I just-I just need my stuff." I remained calm, taking a deep breath.

"I deserve fucking answers. What happened to your car?" Her eyes started to take in the truck but then she saw Bucky in the passenger seat. Sadie stiffened up. She took a step back, her hand coming up to her mouth. "Widia, what—,"

"Don't." I cut her off quickly, speaking through my teeth. "Don't you say his name because if you do...." I trailed off, unsure of what I would do.

"You said S.H.I.E.L.D., Widia. Not-Not this." She whispered, shaking her head gently as she looked at me.

"They need me and I-I need them." I pulled her in for a tight hug. "He's not a bad person like they say, Sadie." I let her go and watched her as she pulled my things from her car.

"I hadn't ever been upstairs in your house before, so I had some trouble finding things." Sadie cleared her throat. She had two duffle bags, but they both must've been heavy because she only got one at a time out and she let the bag fall to the ground.

Bucky was suddenly beside me, helping lift the bag up off the ground. Sadie watched him closely, like he was a bomb or something. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other.

"I told you to stay in the truck, stupid." I mumbled to him as he shoved the first duffle bag effortlessly into the back seats of the truck.

"I'm pretty sure this is called being a gentleman." His eyes met mine and I could see the playfulness in his gray-blue ones. I smiled just barely but it didn't last long.
