I guess I should start this off with what's on my mind. You suggested that I go see Sadie because you thought I didn't want to be around you. You sent me away because you wanted me to see her so that I would be reminded that I gave up being able to have a normal life to be with you. You think that I should hate you for what happened. James Barnes, I do not blame you for anything. The people who took control of your mind are the ones you should blame
I want to be with you, Bucky, more than I let on. Doing the normal things couples do is nearly impossible for us. We can't go out for dinner. We can't go to the movies. We can't even go to family parties. But I need you to know that I would not change anything. You are good enough, Bucky. You don't have to be perfect. No one is. I am kind of willing to admit I have trust issues and bad mood swings. I know I come off as a bitch to nearly everyone and not a lot of people can handle me. You handle my overall bad attitude and personality decently. It takes a special guy to do that. —W.C.
I ran the pad of my thumb over my crappy signature, staring at it for a few seconds. Then, I placed the piece of paper back on the nightstand. As much as I wanted to go walk along the shore, Bucky wasn't letting me go. Even as I sat up on the edge of the bed, his arm wrapped loosely around my waist, his chest pressed against my lower back. My phone lit up on the nightstand, vibrating quietly against the wood. It was Sadie.
"What are you doing up this late, Sadie?" I asked softly, my free hand reaching back to brush some of Bucky's hair out of his face.
"I-I had a bad dream." Her voice was scratchy as she spoke.
"What about? Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Yeah. I'm fine..... Jeremiah's laying here beside me. He's still sleeping."
"And the baby?"
"He's craving a peanut butter, banana, and pickle sandwich with hot Cheetos."
"That sounds interesting."
"It tastes better than it sounds." She laughed softly. "I promise."
"What was the dream about?" I brought my hand down to place it on Bucky's arm around me. It happened to be his metal one, but that didn't stop me from tracing the creases and lines in the silver material.
"It was.... It was a funereal. At first, I didn't know who it was for but then I saw Zach there—your Zach. And I saw his brother. I only met him once or twice. And then I saw the people you're with now. But you.... you were the one in the casket, Widia."
I bit my bottom lip.
"It was just a dream, Sadie."
"But it could happen. I could lose you. I really did like having you here."
"Sadie, me and Bucky might leave the country if things don't go as planned."
"What? Why? What happened?"
"Nothing, yet. The others have to go join the Avengers. They aren't actual criminals. They're going to try to stop HYDRA for good. But I'm staying with Bucky and it's not safe here in the U.S. We're going to do our best to stay here in the states but I don't know...." I trailed off for a moment. "I do want to be there when the baby is born but I don't think I can be if it puts Bucky's life in danger."
"If it's just you and him why don't you two come stay with me and Jeremiah?"
"Sadie." I rubbed my eyes and leaned forward a little. "I know Jeremiah wouldn't like that."
"He trusts you and I trust you. If you say this Bucky man is a good guy, then Jeremiah will be okay."
I really did want to be around her more. It felt good to be able to be close to her once again. However, we could lead HYDRA to her if they found us.
