My family and I stood in a huge crowd, all waiting for the return of the new newbloods. Nobody was given any news except for the Colonel but he never shares anything. Nobody knows if it was a success or fail. I just hope that my brother and sister make it back safely. We have almost lost them so many times. The jet is seen coming to land and a silence falls over the crowd. No one dares to breathe. The silence is broken by a couple nurses fighting their way through the crowd. This was normal to see after an attack like this happens but what was different was that the two of them carried a stretcher. Usually if the stretcher is needed they will get it after inspecting the injuries. It is certain that one of them were very unlucky. I pray it is not Mare or Shade. The nurses quickly come out with the unlucky victim. My prayers were not answered. It was hard to recognize her with all the blood and the fact that she was so pale that she could passe for silver. Mare is carried out with a long blade sticking out of her chest. A collected gasp sweeps the crowd. Cal runs after Mare, this hit him hard too. He looks like a hot mess. His eyes are red and puffy from crying and shockingly he has gone even paler. It is no surprise that he follows. Everyone knows they love each other, Mare and Cal just refuse to admit it. Farley and Shade descend next. They both stay strong but I can tell that Shade is going to be a wreck her shortly. They both are stained red from Mare. Shade walks towards us. No one says a word, there's no need to. We leave the crowd early. The walk home was painful. Everybody was fighting their own tears. Once home everybody lets go. It's amazing how a door can make such a difference. It can change you from a warrior to a scarred child. Everyone sits in the small living room huddled together. We cry because we don't know much about Mare or what happened. Being in the dark is a scary place to be when its a matter of life or death. All we can do is sit and cry, so that is what we do.
