At this hour, with this much rain pouring, even if he managed to get a cab, it must cost a bomb. Wu was afraid to let his supervisor waiting too long, he sprinted the whole way there. The rain droplet scratched across his face, his umbrella is basically useless.

An old motorist followed Wu along the way, his heart ached at the sight, then called out to Wu, 'Hey lad! Hop on! I don't want your money, tell me where you're heading?!'

Hearing this kind of words right now, Wu's heart melted in warmth.

'It's okay, I'm reaching soon.' He then took out the remaining $37 he got in his pocket, gave it to the old motorist, 'Here, take this. Stop working and go home, you're not young anymore.'

The motorist wanted to return Wu the money, he just walked off. When the motorist wanted to chase after him, he was long gone.

After running for another 10 minutes or so, Wu finally reached the company.

The supervisor drank too much, he's throwing things around alone in the office. Wu just stepped into the office, he was being scolded right about his face.

'See it yourself, what time is it now?! Normally there were 5 or 6 people, but when I actually need them, no one's fucking around! Everyday mentioning about raising the pay, but never really thought if they deserve it or not. What are you staring at? I called you to fix the machine, not staring at me!'

Wu didn't say anything, he bent down to examine the machine immediately. Since no one's helping him, he held his torch with his mouth with wires on both of his hands. Bzt! Wu was electrocuted, but the supervisor just stood there and look. Bzt! Wu's hair almost fell off.

.......

After examining until the morning, Wu finally found the problem, the supervisor was just awake.

'There are parts broken, it needs to be changed.'

The supervisor once heard 'changed', his brows knitted together, 'You can change it, but you have to buy it yourself, with your money.'

Knowing that he needs to pay it himself, Wu started to worry. Doesn't matter how much is it, but why does he have to pay for it?! Helping to solve supervisor's problems is still manageable, but he couldn't take it when he's taken advantage of.

'The parts were broken before I was fixing, so it's not my problem.'

His expression soured, 'Wu, I say you're inexperienced. If you can help me fix it, why not pay for the parts?'

'Why?' Wu argued, 'Because I earn $2000 a month.'

'Are you complaining that the company is not treating you good enough?' The supervisor suddenly roared, 'If so, you can quit, there's plenty opportunities out there. You can go wherever you want, stop wasting each others' time here!'

Wu was rooted to the ground, eyes dull and lifeless, face as pale as paper.

'How dare you to speak about conditions with me? Why not take a look at yourself, doing nothing from day to night. If it wasn't because of me, you wouldn't even get this job now! Your colleagues always complain about you, requesting to relocate you to other departments, you're not welcomed from the start...'

Wu thought of these 3 years here, he has helped them plenty of times. He thought he was being helpful, thought that everyone had remembered what he had done. Actually, everyone else thought he was trying to bootlick the superiors, treating them as stepping stones.

'Wu, you have to fix this machine. If not you have to hold responsibility for it, by paying for it, then we do not owe each other. If you're still stubborn, then I can't let you go!'

Wu just realized, this is a dark realm. You did so many for them, yet no one remembers; but once you did something bad, everything started shitting you.

'I quit.' Wu said suddenly, 'I've decided, I want to resign.'

The supervisor just had a grasp of what's going on. If Wu left, who is going to do this kind of chores?

'Let me tell you, Wu, don't you dare to forget about who you were. You're skilled now because of the company's training. If you're leaving, you're wasting the three years worth of insurance.'

Insurance? Does it work? I lost my girlfriend, what can it insure me?

Wu turned and left.

The supervisor's voice boomed, 'Let me tell you, you left your position for a week without any notice, you have to pay triple of day's worth of salary! Plus the parts, you're not going to leave today!'

Wu disputed, 'I was injured!'

The supervisor grabbed by Wu's collar, reprimanded, 'Who do you think you are? How dare you talk back to me?! Your head is always having some problem. If any of the machines breaks down, it's your fault!'

Wu's face is turning red, he tried to pry open his fingers, but he got threw to the corner of the wall, the bandage even got loose.

'How dare you scratch me?! Motherfucker! Son of a bitch! Leave now!'

Wu's hands held onto the frame of the notification board, eyes gawking at one of the photos on it, burning the name 'Zhang Bao Gui' underneath the photo on his heart.
