Three days later, Chief and I were discharged from Med and went to each of our houses to change and get cleaned up, then each of our families and we went to the station for a celebration! The party was held in the engine bay and the break room. We all mingled, ate, and drank while the kids played. Sylvia ran up to me excitedly and asked if she could make an announcement. I knew what she was talking about, so I bent down and asked her, "About your and the twins' new schools?" She nodded and I approved. "Hey you guys! I have an announcement!," Sylvia shouted, "the twins and I are each starting a new school next week!" That was brief, but everyone cheered and congratulated her and the twins.
The following Monday, we went through the same morning and school routine, but I drove the kids to school while Mrs. Hermann watched the baby. After dropping each of the kids off, I drove to work. When I arrived, got out, parked and locked the car, I went to the break room for coffee. Hermann, Jimmy, Cruz, Otis, Severide, Mouch, and Casey were in there too, having coffee. "Good morning, peeps." I said. There were tired responses, which I understood, but they were happy. Just as I drank half of my coffee, the alarm went off. "Let's roll, y'all!" I yelled. We suited up, hopped in the truck, and responded.
