reflected

you look in the mirror and are never content with what looks back at you

and you wonder why? why is this reflection with the crooked smile never good enough for me?

i'll tell you why

because when you look in that mirror, you don't see yourself

your small, freckled nose is there
and your cute smile is too,
but that's not all there is to you

you don't see the amount of lives you've touched and brightened throughout your life. you don't see the smiles of the people who think of you when they fall asleep. you don't see the reflection of that person dropping the pill bottle and deciding to stay a little longer just because you complimented them once. you're not seeing how strong you are. you have won the ultimate battle just by still being here. and that is something to be proud of. in fact, every battle, every war you've won isn't showcased when you look in the mirror.

when you look in the mirror all you see is this person who you feel like you don't know. but you do know them, i promise you do, the mirror just doesn't show you.

so, listen to me when i say this.

next time you look in the mirror, don't hate yourself because one piece of hair is out of place or your eye makeup didn't turn out just right or maybe you hate your dimples. because this reflection is not who you are. you are a beautiful, complex human being and the mirror simply doesn't hold the capability to showcase everything that you are. it's only showing one tree in the forest, one star in the sky, one planet in the galaxy, one grain of sand at the beach.

you are so much more than one tree in the forest or one star in the sky.

i hope you believe me now when i say this;

you are much more than the reflection in the mirror.
