Chapter Fourteen
-Six Months Later-
"Hey, Chels!"
I look up from Leo's desk and smiled.
"Hey Kali," I greeted.
"Want to grab some dinner with me and Rick?"
Should I?
"Would you guys mind?"
"Of course not! Come on," she smiled.
I quickly put the papers I was looking at into a folder and locked it up inside a cabinet. Then I grabbed my purse and walked out with Kali. Since I started working six months ago, I've earned enough to buy myself a car when I add it along with my savings from before I came here.
"Where are you guys planning to go?"
"Just a restaurant. And, can I ride with you?" Kali asked.
"Sure," I laughed.
We quickly got in the car and she told me the directions.
"So, how are you doing?" Kali said as I pulled out of the parking lot.
How am I doing? I'm still crying every night and hoping that Leo is okay. I'm still writing letters to him, but wishing I can see his face or hear his voice instead. I can't eat or sleep. I'm still paranoid with the thought that he might not return. I'm still paranoid that someday, he isn't going to wait for four years. That he isn't going to send me a letter back.
That he's going to disappear, forever.
"Chels?"
I blinked and looked her.
"I'm still holding up," I answered Kali with a fake smile.
Kali gave a barely audible sigh and looked ahead.
"How are you?"
There was a moment of silence.
"I miss him," she finally answered.
"Me too," I sighed.
"I know," she said softly wiping her eyes.
The rest of the ride to the restaurant was in a peaceful silence. I parked my car and turned to Kali.
"I'm not feeling so hungry. Maybe you should go in and eat with Rick," I said.
Kali studied me.
"Come on, Chelsea. You haven't ate that much in the passed months. Leo wouldn't want you to do this," she said.
"I just don't feel well. I promise to eat with you guys tomorrow, alright?"
"Okay. Feel better and drive safe," Kali sighed as she stepped out.
I pulled out of the parking lot and quickly drove home. As I reached there, I turned off my car and went inside. Instead of going straight into my room, I went into Leo's room and closed the door. Then stripped off my buttoned up shirt and put on one of his t-shirts.
"You can't cry now," I scolded myself.
I took a deep breath and crawled into his bed. Even though six months have passed, I could still smell his scent.
I don't know if it's still here, or if I am just imagining it. But everytime I smell it, it calms me down.
Suddenly, tears started streaming down my face. I began to reminisce about the things we did together. All of the little details made me cry the most.
