chapter 84

"wha-what are yo-you doing h-here?" i stutter, harry picking me up and helping me stand up right by protectively wrapping his arm around my waist.

josh pushes himself up off the floor and glares at harry's arm around me.

"i wanted to talk to you" he says, his eyes looking up and meeting mine but his teeth clenched.

"umm.." i look up at harry and he shakes his head not even trying to make it subtle.

i bite the inside of my cheek.

what should i do?

talk to josh and completely ignore the fact that harry looks compeltely uncomforatable with josh like he knows something i dont.. or should i stay with harry and diss josh? i mean josh does owe me an explination for whatever happened on the roof the night before the concert.. but harry usually has a good instinct about things so..

"well?" josh asks.

"oh umm.." i look from josh to harry. both their jaws are tight and their teeth clenched, their eyes slightly narrowed, their body language tells most of what is happening.. and i know i'm not going to get it out of harry. i hae a better chance of guilting josh into telling me. 

i look up at harry. "i'm going to talk to him"

"what? no" 

"he has some explaining to do. i need to understand what's going on"

"but-"

"no, harry. i need to hear it from him" i look him dead in the eyes. 

he looks away and runs his fingers through his hair. letting out a huff he walks away.

i bite  my cheek and look up at josh. "so.. let's talk"

Josh's POV.

just looking at liz makes me feel guilty. after that night on her roof i didn't know what to say to her. i still don't even know what to say. i can't tell her what i did.. she'll hate me.

but i know it was wrong and i never should've done it. 

.. but you can't change the past, so there's nothing that can be done about it now.

~ ~ ~ FLASHBACK ~ ~ ~

"are you sure you want to do this?" Jaden asks looking a little concerned. 

"of course. he took vanessa away from me and now he;s trying ot take liz away too. i can't let him get away with it twice. do it once, shame on him. do it twice, shame on me" i saw slipping the short quiffed blond wig over my hair that is so stiff from hairspray i can barely adjust it on my head. 

i had jaden take a black and grey flannel and dark skinny jeans from hunter's house. jaden was already his lab partner for chem so it wasn't too hard for jaden to slip a shirt and pair of jeans into his backpack while hunter was downstairs when his mom asked him for something.

hunter really wasn't a bad guy. good in school, great at sports.. he was my friend for years.

until i got a girlfriend in ninth grade. vanessa. long dark hair, deep brown eyes, flawless dark olive skin and long black eyelashes that curled straight up. i was in ninth grade when she was a senior. i saw her in the halls and thought she was absolutely mesmerizing. 

on prom night, her boyfriend broke up with her and she was absolutely devistated. she was crying and i comforted her. that night, she thanked me with a kiss. the next few weeks we became good friends, and i asked her out. at first she wanted to say no because of our age difference, but i convinsed her. 

then hunter swooped in and stole her from under my fingertips. i was head over heals in love with her and she couldn't wait to get rid of me. typical highschool relationship. 

ever since then i've hated hunter. 

and now is my chance to get him back. seeing liz start to fall for him gives me the perfect opportunity. 

i get dressed in the clothes jaden handed me and slipped on my black converse. i gave my ister a picture of hunter and told her i had a play at school that required me to look like my character so she was happy to oblige. 

she made me look so much like hunter it was scary. 

i thanked her and gave her a kiss on the cheek. when i opened the front door i saw it was raining.

damn it. 

grabbing an umbrella from the coat rack next to the door, i opened it and stepped outside. 

when i got to liz's house i climbed up on the white trellis attached to the side of her house that always allowed me to climb up to her room without a problem. 

i squated down on the roof and tapped on her window. light taps. 

i watched as she sat up on her bed and looked around until her eyes landed on my dark figure. she got out of bed and unlocked the window, allowing me access into her room.

show time.

i feel awful about it now. i didn't then.. but i do now. 

but it's too late to feel guilty, because there's really nothing that can be done anymore. 

at first it was just a prank.. but now it's life or death.

.. well not really. but if liz found out i would die! first she would kill me.... then hunter would kill me... then harry would kill me.. if he doesn't already know. 

he did tell me that he watches liz because they used to be really good friends but something happened so he can't talk to her anymore.. 

but i wonder why he's talking to her.

he better not have told her about that night. i'm going to kill him if he does!

"josh?" her sweet voice rings through my ears snapping me out of my thoughts.

"yeah?"

"what did you want to talk about?"

"well.." 

i wanted to talk to her about it earlier.. but now that i've thought of what her reaction will be like and the huge possibility that she'll never talk to me again... 

"i just missed you is all" i say and pull her into a hug.

she gently pushes me away and looks confused. "what happened that night on the roof?" 

i knew she was going to ask about it at some point.. but i wanted her to say she missed me too. it would've made things a little easier if i knew she still had a little bit of feelings for me.

i sigh. "sorry"

"why did you just leave me there? why didnn't you answer me? it was just one little question and you freaked out and left me there"

"i know.."

"you freaking jumped off the roof and ran down the street! how is that not suspisious?"

"i know.."

"well? do you care explaining why!?"

"umm.. i can't.."

"why not?"

"because.. it's a secret i can't tell"

"why?"

".." i think for a second. "because it's not mine to tell" i blurt out.
