Jack and I run through the woods. Trees are just orbs in the corners of my eyes. One mission is on my mind; either come up with an agreement, or fight. Either one will suffice.
"Do you think they'll be willing to negotiate?" Jack asks while sucking in a harsh breath. He glances at me, then back at the woods, studying each tree limb and stump.
"No, knowing my stubborn mother, she'd probably try to have us killed on the spot." I reply, he nods and lets that sink in. That we might die by the hands of my own mother.
"If we win, what will we do next?" He asks curiously.
"Try to live normal lives? I mean, that's what we all want. I'm going to marry Garrison, Ian and Aria have been becoming closer, and we can finally live normal lives." I explain. He bites his bottom lip after I mention marrying Garrison.
"What are you jealous of me being with Garrison?" I tease. His cheeks turn a crimson pigment. His eyes fall to the grass.
"We had one small moment, if I were to kiss you now, it wouldn't change your mind." He replied with a small amount of despair.
"Do you hear that?" I ask, placing my arm across his chest.
"Hear what?" He asks. I look around to place the whispers ringing in my ears.
"We should give them a chance go explain
themselves, in case they've gotten an agreement we can come to terms with." Dad suggests. Mom's heart pounds in her chest."So we can have our revenge for Kathy?" she pauses. "No, I'm not giving them a chance." She adds. I take a deep breath and run to them. They're about a mile away, I can sense it.
"What are you doing?" Jack asks.
"I'm going to talk to them." I snap. He places his hand on my shoulder. I shrug his hand off.
"No, you're going to get hurt." He says softly.
"I have to, I have you as my back up. If anything goes wrong, I'll call you." I assure him. He shoots me a glance, distrust shines on his face. I sigh and bite my lower lip.
"Take this for me, if I lose it, I won't forgive myself." I say, slipping my ring off my finger. It's tight little band hugging my finger. I place it in his soft palm. His closes his fist and nods.
I push past all of the trees, moving each branch from my way. Dad is the first to see me. His eyes grow the size of saucers.
"Leah?" He asks, we hadn't seen each other in a while.
Last time we spoke I was inkless, piercing-less, and brunette. My eyes pierce his glance as my jaw clenches. If he starts something, I won't back down.
"You try to kill me, and all you say is Leah?" I ask.
His body relaxes from its tense state. His shoulders relax and he mumbles,
"You need to leave, your mother is going to kill you."
"Why should I believe you, I'm here for a discussion. An agreement, if you will." I propose.
He turns his head towards mom. She walks out of the house, gun loaded, and aimed at me.
"I won't hesitate to shoot, mutt." She warns.
"Mom, would you please just listen to me?" I ask.
She shutters at the sound of me still calling her mom after all this time. In her eyes, I am no longer her daughter... I suppose I stopped being her daughter the minute I told her I became a werewolf. She's made it evident I am not her daughter but her enemy.
"What do you have for us?" Dad asks softly.
"If you stop torturing and killing werewolves, we will stay far away from you. If the agreement is broken, a confrontation will be arranged." I propose. Mom nods her head slowly.
"We can kill whoever we want, given the circumstances." She pipes.
"Circumstances?" I ask.
"If they harm one of us, we can hurt any of you."
"If we harm any of you, we will settle it, you and I. Leave the pack out of it."
"If any of them hurts us, we can turn them into fur rugs."
"No, there's no way in hell I will let that happen."
"Ladies, ladies, lets settle this peacefully." Dad suggests.
"Fine, if you don't hurt one of us, we will stay away. If you hurt one of us, confrontation between the two of you and I will be arranged." I propose, just like the first time.
"That works!" Dad exclaims before mom could get a word through.
I run off into the woods. Before I could get far enough, I turn to face mom and dad.
"Tell Garrison we said hi, I'm sure he's dying to see us." Mom says. "He's got a few things to say to you, but you're too wrapped up in playing peace keeper to see him." I remark. She smirks. "For the record, I didn't have a problem with him until he turned you. That's when everything changed." She admits.
"He didn't change me, just so you know." I say before continuing my run in the woods. She was right about everything changing from that point on.
"So that went well, but don't you think they'll go after us for changing you?" Jack asks as I meet his gaze. I shake my head.
"Jake is dead, I'm sure we are fine." I reply. He hands me my ring. I slip it back on my finger and smile.
