"Okay Leah, the baby is healthy, vitals seem well," Dr. Moore pauses and looks at the computer screen for a moment. "you are far enough along to find out the gender, do you want to know?" She asks, looking at me, then Jack, then back at me.
"Do you want to know?" I ask, looking over my shoulder at Jack.
"I kind of want to be surprised, do you want to know?" He asks. I shake my head.
"Can you please write it down and put it in an envelope? We want to be surprised." I suggest.
"Sure, let me step out of the room and take care of that for you, we are done for today so you can get your stuff ready and we will get you out of here!" She explains cheerfully. She steps out of the room, closing the door behind herself.
"I can't believe our little peanut has gotten so big!" I exclaim. Jack smiles.
"I think we should give the envelope to either Cam or Brent, if we give it to Mel or Ian, they will accidentally blurt it out." He replies.
"Good idea, so far so good with this pregnancy, who knows, maybe I'll have a somewhat normal pregnancy." I reply.
Not long after leaving the doctors, we finally pull into the driveway. Mel sits on the porch with the girls, who are color the driveway in shades of pastel pink and green. I take a closer look at Mel, she's gotten bigger since we left this morning. She groans as she gets up. Jack and I look at each other, we don't even have to squint to see that she has gotten bigger. We get out of the car and walk up to the house.
"Mommy!" The girls squeal as I approach them.
"Hey girls, are you drawing?" I ask. They both nod and continue coloring in the abstract drawings they've drawn.
"Wow Mel, you look great!" I lie through my teeth. She rolls her eyes.
"The baby has been kicking me in the rib cage all day, my back hurts," she pauses for a moment and stretches. Various pops! come from her back. "and Cameron said I'm too cranky so he went over Ian's to hang out." She rambles.
"It's alright, just sit back down and take a few deep breaths." I suggest. She does as I say and kicks her feet out in front of her.
"Babe, I'm going to go down back with the girls, who knows, maybe they will want to help me collect some wood and hunt some rabbits." He explains. Doubtful that they will want to hunt rabbits but who knows with them!
"Okay be careful, I love you." I reply, smiling at his optimism.
"I love you too, babe, both of you." He replies, placing his hand on my stomach. He leans in, brushing his lips against mine. He slowly pulls me close to him, pecking me on the lips. I grab the back of his head and pull him in for another kiss, slowly smiling between the kiss. He walks away with a huge smile on his face.
I sit next to Mel and prop my swollen feet up on the coffee table. She looks over at me in slight disgust. Aria rolls her eyes, eyeing me up and down.
"Why is it that I'm as big as a house and you are so small?" She complains. I giggle and roll my eyes.
"Oh hush, I'll catch up, I just haven't been eating a lot of junk food and I guess the baby is taking its time." I reply. She looks at me oddly.
"Are you saying I eat a lot of junk food?" She questions.
"No, I just don't have a lot of cravings for it yet, I will soon." I reply, slightly walking on eggshells, figuratively speaking of course.
"Oh, okay. Well I guess I could lay off of the junk food." She mumbles.
Aria rolls her eyes and scoffs.
