"What are you going to do when he comes after us for helping them?" Jack asks, peeking his head up to the rear-view mirror. His dark green eyes stare into mine for a moment, before returning to the road. I shrug my shoulders. I hadn't really thought about it, I just wanted Garrison back. "This is the dumbest thing you could've done." Jack adds.
"Just keep your eyes on the road." Cameron snaps. Jack rolls his eyes.
"You know what can happen when Jake finds out, why didn't you stay home?" Garrison asks, shifting his body to face me.
"You know me, when I get an instinct about something, I don't stop searching until I figure it out." I reply. He smiles and takes my hands in his. His smile soon fades.
"You risked your life for me." He states.
"You risked your life by loving me. Have you ever thought about that?" I question. He nods.
"At first, I kept our relationship a secret. To cover it up, every time you were around Jake, I told him that you were werewolf, but..." He pauses and looks down at a scar on his forearm. "he eventually figured out it was a lie." Garrison admits. I cover his lengthy scar with my arm, interlocking my fingers with his. My sleeve covers his arm, hiding his scar underneath.
"I didn't stop calling you after you fled, I knew something was wrong. You never leave without kissing me goodbye." I explain.
"I will never stop loving you." He replies softly.
He looks into my eyes and smiles. He cups my face in his hands and brings me close to him, his soft pink lips brush against mine. He slowly heightens the kiss, his lips press against mine. He rips the seatbelt off of himself and pulls me closer to him.
"Okay you two, we have to lay low, Jake is back." Jack announces. We break our kiss and stare into each other's eyes.
"Oh Brent, I love you so much! Even if I am a hunter and we can't be together." Ian mocks, he interlocks fingers with Brent.
"But we can be together!" Brent exclaims. They interlock fingers.
"No, no we can't." Ian and Brent mock. Brent pushes Ian's chest. They both wrap their arms around themselves and pretend to make out with each other.
"Gross, you two!" Cameron pretends to gag.
After we all pull ourselves together from laughing so hard, we sit, smiling at each other. God, I love them! Jack rolls his eyes at all of us.
"Stay here, he's probably going to get some water and then go hunting." Jack adds.
"Like a dog." I mumble, the guys look at me.
"Stereotypes!" Ian scoffs. His head cocks sideways, "Do you hear that?" He asks. He looks around until his eyes lock on his target. "It sounds like a... a squirrel!" He exclaims, his breath fogs up the glass.
Changing the subject back to the matter at hand, I bluntly ask,
"Can I slash Jake's throat now, or later?" The guys look at me in disbelief, never in the five years I've known them, have I said anything along those lines.
"You are starting to make a good beta, and maybe a great alpha one day." Brent acknowledges.
"What Brent here is trying to say, you can't kill him on your own. You need us because you are weaker than us." Cameron explains.
"I'd like to take Jake down once and for all." I hiss.
"You don't even know what he's done to us, you can't take him down. Not alone, you can't." Ian warns.
"Tortured you, made rules, turned me? I can, and when the time is right, I will." I reply.
"He's got a lot of power, Leah. You won't be able to kill him." Brent backs Ian up.
"Don't get cocky, babe. We will help you." Garrison adds.
"Please, I can take him down. You forget that I am a trained hunter." I say, rolling my eyes.
"He's gone, just hurry into the house." Jack announces. We all rush into the house like little mice. The place is just as we left it, not one thing out of place.
"He's coming back!" Cameron whispers loudly.
"What do we do?" Ian asks. All of us look at each other.
"Ian, Brent, Leah, and I will stay in Garrison's room. Garrison, Cameron, run. Run into the woods, make your way to Pennsylvania, you should make it by sun down. Don't get caught." Jack composes his master plan. I shake my head.
"We just get them back, alive, and you want them to get killed?" I ask.
"Do you want them alive or not?" He asks. I sigh and turn my back on them. Ian and Brent follow behind.
"Leah?" Garrison calls. I turn to face him. He pulls me close and crashes his lips against mine.
"C'mon, Leah." Jack pulls me away from him.
"I love you, Lea. I promise you I will be back." He adds. Agony shines in his weary green eyes. We just want this to be over with.
"Guys, come in here and when Jake walks in the house, jump out of the window and run." Jack orders.
We all cram into Garrison's room, Ian closes the door behind himself. I climb into Garrison's bed, Ian and Brent cover me. The front door opens, Jake steps inside the house. Brent opens a window, Cameron and Garrison jump out of the window, feet hitting the cold ground. They dart for the woods. Slash marks leave their bloody marks on Garrisons back. Claw marks peek through Cameron's ripped shirt. It makes me sick to think that Jake tortured them.
Jake opens the door and looks at the four of us.
"Is she doing any better?" Jake asks the boys, he stands in the doorway for a second.
"Well, it's not like you care either way." I reply. He rolls his eyes. Claws grow over my fingernails, I hide my hands under the blanket.
"Her wound is healing." Brent points out.
"You all weren't here when I returned." Jake acknowledges.
"Oh, I had the boys go hunt while I helped Leah bathe, I took her downstairs to the bigger bathroom." Jack replies. I smile slightly.
"I see." Jake replies. I just hope that the guys make it to Pennsylvania safely.
