josh was sitting on his bed, a hot tea next to him, the steam gliding over his face. the lights were off, and there was soft music playing throughout the dark room.

he was waiting for tyler.

it was raining again outside, heavy raindrops hurling themselves at his window. he heard cars pass as they tore through the puddles, splashing people on the sidewalks.

but who would be on the sidewalk at night? josh clinked his spoon against the side of his mug.

he heard a car coming along, and then it slowed. he heard wet footsteps coming up to the doorstep and--

knock knock

josh slowly placed his tea on his bedside table and walked quietly downstairs. his family was asleep. josh really didn't want his mom to wake, because this was the first time she'd been fully asleep in her own bed for months.

he looked through the window next to the door to see a drenched tyler, staring at the door with his huge puppy eyes. tyler didn't see him, but even in that moment, josh simply wanted to hold tyler and apologize profusely.

josh unlocked the door slowly and quietly, putting his finger to his lips as he opened the door.

shhhh

tyler stepped inside, taking off his wet shoes. his socks let out water with every step as he climbed josh's stairs silently, josh behind him.

tyler was worried. what was josh even mad about? he was afraid to touch josh, even look at him. would he scare him off again? he needed josh, he couldn't bear to scare him off.

tyler was cold to the bone and he showed it. his teeth were chattering and his hands were rubbing together quickly.

"i'll start a hot bath for you and you can wear some of my clothes." josh said.

tyler hummed. "okay." he hummed when he was cold.

wait-- a bath. in josh's house. would he be by himself?

he sat on josh's bed as he heard josh starting the water in the other room. there was a tea and a pencil on josh's bedside table. he picked up the pencil. it was powerful to him. heavy. he stood on josh's bed, arm to the ceiling, and wrote

tyler

all the way up on the ceiling. so he could be near josh.

he heard josh coming back. he scampered down and acted normal.

"the bath is ready. i put some towels out. want some tea?"

tyler nodded silently. things were so awkward now.

tyler headed towards the bathroom and took off his wet clothes. he dipped his toe in the steaming water. it was incredibly hot. he put the rest of himself in. he was not cold anymore.
